North Of England Spaniel Club

Critique for North of England Spaniel Club

Sunday 25th June 2023

Thank you to Lesley Nesbitt and her hard working committee for inviting me to judge at this very well organised show which is held in the most beautiful venue. Neil and I were very well looked after. The sun shone, the breeze kept the heat manageable and the only spots of rain fell after the very last dog left the ring! My steward, Tommy, supported me well, so thank you.

I had the pleasure to assess some excellent examples of our spaniel breeds; one or two will improve as they develop in confidence and settle to their showing. I found my Best in Show in Hackett and Williams magnificent Irish Water Spaniel Sh Ch Curlyco My Hot Rockstar (Imp. Fin.),he commanded my attention on entering the ring. Such an impressive male shown in great order, excellent bone, strong, well ribbed body, well muscled and moving as if he owned the ring, he could not be denied the top spot. Reserve Best in Show went to Clarke and Gaylor Welsh Springer Spaniel Tigerrock Tick Tick Boom, such a smart young dog turned out in great coat and condition, moving with ease and drive; he had been sent through from a quality entry in his breed.

Best Puppy in Show was awarded to Graham's Welsh Springer Spaniel Nyliram The Suspect, superbly presented and handled to get the best from this very pretty bitch, gorgeous head and expressive eyes, well made all through and so sound and confident on the move. Reserve Best Puppy in Show was awarded to Terry's Cocker Spaniel Shaggylands True Colours. Still very much a baby but showing promise, head is developing well and he has lovely expression; well boned and with good body, moved well using his quarters to advantage once settled.

Best Veteran in Show was won by Watson's English Springer Spaniel Sh Ch Bordacity Honey Ryder at almost nine years old this bitch is carrying her years very well. Well proportioned and shown in excellent coat and condition. She moves with ease, good forward reach and drive from strong quarters. Reserve Best Veteran in Show went to Sherlock's Cocker Spaniel Jayzander Hermes with Crimicar, ten year old who still shows like a youngster, well made all through and in good coat and condition. Well done to both exhibitors for maintaining your golden oldies in such great condition, they are a credit to you.
