North Devon Agricultural Society

North Devon Agricultural Show.
3 August 2023

Thank you to the committee for the invitation and their hospitality on the day.

It was a shame that the weather made life difficult with a very muddy car park at the end of the day. At least there were plenty of tractors there to tow people out and the camaraderie of people helping push cars was good to see.

The long slippery grass did affect movement for some dogs and their handlers.

Best In Show - Williams & James’ Ch Bwthyn Headliner JW ShCM ShCEx VW. Welsh Corgi (Cardigan) 8yr D. What a super dog. Full of breed type and presented is such good condition. Today he took me by surprise. One of those dogs that the more you look at him the more you appreciate. Super head shape and proportions with dark eyes and well set ears. Strong neck to well laid shoulders and lots of forechest. Deep chest, well ribbed back giving desired length under a level topline that stays firm on the move, and well set and correctly carried tail. Well angulated and well muscled rear. Moves true with drive and attitude. A pleasure to judge and award BOB, Group 1, Best Veteran in Show and Best In Show.

Reserve Best In Show – Kibby’s Trimere Taylor Maid at Pinhays JW – English Springer Spaniel. 2yr B of super type and with such attitude, such a show off. Lovely to go over, super forequarters with well laid shoulders. Correct depth and spring of rib under a lovely level topline. Well muscled and correctly angled rear. Moved so well, true from all angles and with reach and drive. One with a bright future.

Best Puppy in Show – Plummer, Plummer and Bingham’s Akari Krazie Maizie for Tetsikarma – Tibetan Terrier. Fell in love with this 11mths B. Stands out and commands attention. So well made under a lovely coat. Correct shape and proportions, feminine throughout with dark eyes. Very well made forequarters with good length of neck, short back to a well made rear. Super mover, true with drive and loads of attitude. Could not be denied top honours.

Reserve Best Puppy In Show – Warnes’ Debian Deerhunter – Hungarian Vizsla. 11mths and a young D who sits quietly in the background, almost unnoticed, then he steps up. Head of good shape and proportions, good length of neck into well laid shoulders, good bone and feet. Deep ribs back to a strong loin and a correct, moderately angulated rear. Took my eye on the move, moved out true with a graceful, ground covering gait with good drive.

Best Veteran in Show – See BIS

Reserve Best Veteran in Show – Penny’s Ferncott Rave On ShCM VW - Tibetan Spaniel. He may be 10yrs old on paper but his mind and body don’t care. What a stunner.
