Royal Welsh Agricultural Society - 21 May 2023

It was a pleasure to judge at this well organised show, in a beautiful setting with great weather. I thank the Society for their kind invitation and my steward Nigel Phillips for keeping the ring running smoothly.

Beagles – PG 1 Tanner’s Felinoak FFansi Nansi. BOB & BP, a very pretty bitch puppy with lovely head and expression. Soundly made and positive on the move; 2 Bidey’s Redcap the Courier JW Feminine headed bitch with kind expression. Strong neck into well placed shoulders. Nice rear angles not quite the movement of 1. O 1 Tanner’s Felinoak El Koko Loko Bitch with beautiful head and kind expression, good angles fore and aft with quality bone. Felt her movement didn’t quite match her kennel mates in challenge. RBOB; 2 Cornell’s Felinoak Danny boy from Bronllys, Soundly made lemon & white dog with masculine head and kind eye. Presented in good condition but did not match the movement of 1.

Labradors – P 1 Phillips' Rochevale Gypsy at Sheenaron, 11 month old yellow bitch with pretty head and kind eye. Strong neck into soundly made front. Pleasing rear angles. She held her topline standing and on the move. BP; 2 Johnson & Hynd's Claychalk Costa Follis 9 month old well grown bitch who was full of herself. Pleasing head with kind expression, well made all through, I would have preferred a little less weight which may have enabled her to hold her topline. PG 1 James’ Farnfield Winnie the Witch at Tazlyn, pretty yellow bitch from a smaller mould. Lovely feminine head with correct eye shape and colour. Good reach of neck into soundly made body, correct topline, quality bone and neat feet; 2 Mills’ Jaybec Winter Wispa JW, well put together yellow bitch with pleasing head and kind eye. Nice angles fore and aft. L 1 Evans & Newton's Eminala Star Struck Farnfield, soundly made yellow bitch with lovely head kind eye and expression. Strong neck, correct loin and topline she moved well; 2 Tatchell’s Smokeycot Nostalgia Queen, this happy bitch’s tail never stopped wagging, pretty head, kind eye and pleasing expression. Adequate angles all through not quite the movement of 1. OD A. OB 1 Farnfield Clarity, another pretty yellow bitch with beautiful head, pleasing eye and expression. Level topline, well put together and coupled with quality bone and tight feet delighted to award her BOB; 2 Mills' Trendlewood Day Dreaming A longer cast yellow bitch with feminine head. Strong neck into well made front. Pleasing rear angles, strong topline, quality bone and tight feet.

Golden Retriever P – 1 May’s Cherrygold Storytellen, a well grown cream bitch with much to like. Feminine head with kind eye and correct pigmentation. Strong neck into well constructed body, short coupling with quality bone and short hocks. She held her topline stacked and moving. I understand this class win gave her, her final JW point. Certainly one to watch; 2 Halliday’s Purbarn Goin to be Cloudy, A raw 7 month old dog puppy with everything in the right place. Masculine head with pleasing expression. Well made front and the correct amount of bone for his age. He holds his topline stacked and on the move he just needs time as you would expect at this age. J 1 – Chan’s Wemcrest Sound of Music. BOB. A beautiful mid golden bitch with pretty head, correct eye shape, colour and pigmentation. Good length of neck into such a soundly constructed body with good depth. She has lovely angles fore and aft and is a sound mover. PG 1 Chan’s Thornwait Gabriella of Wemcrest A mid golden longer cast girl with pretty head and kind eye. Good length of neck into an adequately constructed body. She holds her topline and has quality bone I would prefer tighter feet. OD 1 Goddard’s Soneve Stargazer at Glansevern VW, an 11 year old with handsome head and glint in his eye. Strong neck into adequate shoulders longer cast with nice turn of stifle and quality bone. He was a steady mover. OB 1 Chan’s Lovissa Hello Dolly of Wemcrest. RBOB. I would prefer less strength in her head but so soundly made all through with correct depth of body and quality bone. She was in fine fettle and holds her topline standing and on the move. Moved with drive as you would expect from her construction; 2 Whitfield's Amberdella Miracle Dancer A pretty mid golden girl from a smaller mould. Feminine head with kind eye and expression. Pleasing angles fore and aft but not he finish of 1.
