Folkestone Hythe & District Canine Society

I should like to extend my sincere thanks to the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge at this show.  It was a very enjoyable day and I very much appreciated the opportunity and the support from the exhibitors on this appointment to assess some lovely dogs.

Many thanks to my 2 stewards operating in 2 different rings during my appointment for their efficient running of my rings.

GORDON SETTERS

Junior (7, 2abs)

1ST O’Kelly & Hancock, Ms D & Mr A, Caradilis Sparkes Will Fly JW: A beautifully presented and handled bitch of just over 15 months of age. She presented an extremely balanced and clean outline, free from exaggeration. I thought this her to be very typical in type, and very stylish. Symmetrical conformation. Super head with defined stop, correct, clean and complete dentition, dark brown eyes, neck long into well placed shoulders, body of moderate length, strong hindquarters, moved very well.

2ND Williams, Mr B & Mrs E M, Longrow Jean Genie: A raw but quality male of nearly 8 months of age. Stylish young dog, showing much promise, deep head with clearly defined stop, dark eye, correct mouth and clean dentition, correct forequarters, body developing nicely, strong stifles well bent, moved freely with drive. My pleasure to award him Best Puppy In Breed.

3RD Morgan, Ms M, Caradilis Sky Rocket

Post Graduate (5,1)

1ST Harris, Mrs L, Annie-Macrae Dowry Town: A nicely presented and handled bitch of nearly 4 years of age. Good overall balance with pleasing head and expression. Very good forehand assembly. Dentition correct, clean and complete. Correct coat. Brisket of good width and depth, well muscled hindquarters, tight feet with short nails. Moved soundly once settled.

2ND Upton-Lovett & Upton, Mrs S & Miss H, Rotdack Peaky Blinder: A very true, honest and typical Gordon Setter who presented many of the features that I look for in this breed – just not as positive in front movement today. Presented a superbly balanced outline. Super head and expression, narrow cheeks, lips defined and correct, clean and complete dentition. Long, arched neck into well placed shoulders and return of upper arm, elbows close to body, deep brisket, wide strong loin, straight hocks, in very good coat.

3RD Britton, Mrs J C, Graylacier Classic Design

Open (2)

1ST Horler, Mr K & Mrs R, Hernwood Jack O’Lantern By Rackens JW: This male of 5 years of age presented a superbly balanced outline. Super head and expression with dark eye, narrow cheeks, lips defined and correct, clean and complete dentition. Long, arched neck into well placed shoulders and return of upper arm, elbows close to body, deep brisket and very good width, wide strong loin, straight hocks, in good coat and exceptional on the move in all planes. Best Of Breed.

2ND Britton, Mr A & Mrs J, Graylacier Portreath: Another male presenting a super outline and the breed type I’m looking for. Typical head and expression, dark eye, correct, clean and complete dentition, strong neck into well placed shoulders and corresponding return of upper arm, elbows close to body, ribs well sprung, stifles well bent, good feet and short nails, moved very well but just pinned slightly on left fore when coming back in. Reserve Best Of Breed.

POINTER

Junior (3, 1abs)

1ST Welch, Drake & Hazeltine, Mrs S, Mrs J & Miss C, Clamerkin Jubilee Surprise at Hookwood: What an outstanding young bitch this is! Beautifully balanced and of just 8 months of age. Won this class on type and correct breed movement. Very good head and skull with super expression. Dentition correct, clean and complete. Muscular and slightly arched neck. Shoulders well laid back, chest deep, brisket to level with elbows. Short coupled, muscular hindquarters, coat short and hard. Bone of excellent quality. Very good feet and short nails. Moved well covering of plenty of ground. Best Puppy & Reserve Best Of Breed

2ND Hazeltine, Razzell, Drake & Welch, Miss C, Mrs C, Mrs J & Mrs S: Clamerkin Jubilee Fly Past For Corotine: Having now looked at my catalogue I see that this male is a litter brother to my first placed exihibit. Not as ‘together’ as his litter since and a bit more rangy but given his tender age, I feel sure that this will come together as he matures. Good bone, good head with correct, clean and complete dentition. Clean neck leading to good lay of shoulder. Slightly slopes down in topline and I would like a little more length to the croup. Moved freely.

1ST Barham, Mrs L J, Droveborough’s Mocha Mayhem: I loved the type and balance of this bitch, pleasing head, correct, clean and complete dentition, strong neck into well placed shoulders, Good depth and spring of ribcage. Strong topline with correct tailset. Well made hindquarters with correct turn of stifle. On the move she was accurate both fore and aft and showed good length of stride when viewed in profile.deep chest with good width, strong hindquarters, moved very well. My pleasure to award her Best Of Breed.
