Kirkintilloch Lenzie & District Canine Society

Kirkintilloch, Lenzie & District Canine Society

Sunday 22nd October 2023

Thanks to the Society for their invitation, my stewards for their help in the ring and the exhibitors for their entries. Kudos to the Scottish Rhodesian Ridgeback scene, what a delightful group of exhibitors to have in the ring, seldom do you see such genuine sportsmanship! The ring was of a decent size with ample matting but the larger breeds still struggled with apprehension of slipping on the floor around corners.

Rhodesian Ridgeback Special Yearling (3)

1. Shaw’s Negasi Radagast JW. This handsome 21 month old male scored in this class for his excellent proportions coupled with his balanced and well angulated front and rear quarters. Masculine head with dark eyes. Lovely long neck. Still has time to fully develop through the body but holds a good outline. True on the out and back and coped very well with the surface going in profile, think he would have looked even better in a large outdoor ring. BOB and HG1.

2. Jolly’s Negasi Elberith for Clanbruachan JW. Interesting to see from the catalogue that they are littermates, as indeed they share many of the same qualities. Again, lovely neck into a well made front and neat elbows tucked under the body. Particularly liked her hindquarters, super width of thigh. Not quite as true as 1 on the up and down.

3. Mulholland’s Bonfirebeau Love To Dream at Rojodiablo.

Rhodesian Ridgeback Limit (4,2)

1. Black & McKinlay’s Asharaa Stars In Your Eyes at Gileeja JW. 2 year old bitch. Pleased for outline, balance and proportions. Feminine head but with good strength to skull and correct level planes. Super reach of neck into a well angulated front with well laid shoulders and return of upper arm. Could be a touch firmer in pastern. Moderate rear quarters. Moves on a sound stride.

2. Clark-Maclean’s Callmn’s Cut The Crop. 22 month old bitch. Didn’t quite seem so sure of her surroundings today. Excellent profile mover covering plenty ground with power and super carriage, but not the front construction or body development of 1.

Rhodesian Ridgeback Open (8,3)

1. Scanlon’s Kinabula’s All About The Bass JW ShCEX OSW. 6 year old bitch. Fully mature and well made bitch with the correct proportions. Like her neck and front. Super depth and ribcage carried well back. Seems to drop into her frame and sink into her rear a little when standing which sometimes affects her outline, but holds it better on the move. Won this class on her sound movement once settled; true fore and aft and a balanced, ground-covering stride in profile.

2. Black & McKinlay’s Rottzridge Perihelion at Gileeja. 4 year old bitch. Feminine bitch of lovely size and substance, presenting a good outline stacked, which I preferred to 1. Much to like but preferred the slightly more settled and true front movement of 1.

3. Buchanan’s Walamadengie Little Wren.

Beagle Graduate (3,1)

1. Findlay’s Rhiconich Miss Mischief. 6 month old bitch. Compact and good proportions. Well off for body and good construction all through, level topline, excellent hindquarters, sound mover and displaying a delightful temperament. BP and HPG3.

2. Findlay’s Rhiconich Bombshell. This bitch moved very well in profile but not quite as sturdy and compact as 1 and not as sound up and down.

Beagle Open (4,3)

1. Findlay’s Rhiconich Obconica. 2 year old dog. Compact and sturdy male with a super outline and proportions. Well made front and rear and uses it well on the move, where he holds his outline and moves on a super stride. BOB and HG3.

Afghan Hound Graduate (1)

1. Moyes, Lockett-Davies, Shaw & Hunter-Ryan’s Rahzmakh Heart O’Summer by Bryelis. Lovely typey youngster who had super proportions and presented a good outline. A little up on her feet at the moment. Moved with good spring and excellent carriage, coped very well in the ring. BOB and HG4.

Afghan Hound Open (2)

1. McCormack & Hindley’s Tulak Despicable Me. 1 and 2 are litter siblings and so easy to see, both of a distinct classic type with beautiful heads and expression. Preferred the topline of 1. Unfortunately, both were not coping well with the floor affecting movement and tail carriage.

2. McCormack Tulak Never Been Kissed.

Dachshund (Wire-Haired) Open (2)

1. Christie’s Cloudside Valentino at Decalleigh. 6 month old dog. Obviously not as mature as 2 but has time on his side for that. Admired his outline, proportions and balanced quarters. Very sound mover and more purposeful than 2 which one him the class. BOB, BP and PG2.

2. Christie’s Tannahill Bergen at Decalleigh. 5 year old dog. Fully mature and well covered dog, though appearing a touch heavy throughout if anything. Handsome head, excellent expression and topped off with super furnishings and jacket. Not the movement of 1.

A.V.N.S.C. Hound Graduate (2,1)

1. Balfour’s Clentry Mango Passion. Dachshund (Smooth-Haired). 18 month old bitch. Really liked her head and expression. Well made front. Clean outline with good ground clearance. Moved true fore and aft but could have given more in profile.

A.V.N.S.C. Hound Open (7,2)

1. Jardine’s Tadrose North Star. Basenji. 4 year old bitch. Thought this was a super example of the breed. Beautiful head with excellent expression. Small ears, well set. Could be ever so slightly shorter in body proportions to be highly critical but still appeared up on the leg. Sound and effortless on the move holding her outline. BAVNSC.

2. Legget’s Ch Swanwite Katrionah ShCM. Basenji. 10 year old bitch. Another good example of the breed and particularly impressive for her age, which she certainly did not look it. Not the angulation or movement of 1.

3. Kirkwood-Emery’s Helydon Nifty Nairn JW.

A.V. Hound Special Veteran (10,6)

1. Jardine’s Woodella Hot Rod. Basenji. 8 year old dog. Certainly masculine, perhaps a bit too much of him even but has a very good outline and excellent proportions. A little strong in backskull and plain in head. Moved very well on a clean and swift stride.

2. Legget’s Ch Swanwite Karaleigh ShCM. Basenji. 10 year old bitch. This bitch made it a hard decision. Another who I felt was a little heavy through. Typey head which I preferred to 1. Not quite the outline, proportions and movement of 1.

3. Simpson’s Zxylasahlaam Gea’rr.

Hound Group

1. Shaw’s Negasi Radagast JW. Rhodesian Ridgeback.

2. Jardine’s Tadrose North Star. Basenji.

3. Findlay’s Rhiconich Obconica. Beagle.

4. Moyes, Lockett-Davies, Shaw & Hunter-Ryan’s Rahzmakh Heart O’Summer by Bryelis. Afghan Hound.

Hound Puppy Group

1. Finch’s Starceylon Queen Of Dorne and Zenobia. Whippet. Well-sized bitch, full of type and quality with a smooth and curvy outline. Moved very soundly to comfortably take this puppy group.

2. Christie’s Cloudside Valentino at Decalleigh. Dachshund (Wire-Haired).

3. Findlay’s Rhiconich Miss Mischief. Beagle.
