Perthshire Canine Club

Working Breeds (Excluding Siberian Huskies & Alaskan Malamutes), Group & AV Classes

Judge: Mrs Louise Forster (Kachemak)

Thank you to the Committee of the Perthshire Canine Club for the invitation judge and for looking after me so well. Congratulations on such a well-run show with a lovely friendly atmosphere. The venue was good although, despite being indoors, it was bitterly cold. That couldn’t be helped and gave some of the dogs a spring in their step. I would have preferred a slightly larger ring to be able to properly assess movement as I felt some exhibits just weren’t able to get into their stride fully. Thank you to my steward, Anna, and to the exhibitors who brought their beautiful dogs for me to judge. While there were a few absentees, most of those present were of a high quality and provided me with some excellent examples of their breeds, making some decisions quite tough. It was an honour to judge my first working group and I was delighted with my group line up which made an impressive sight.

Boxer

Graduate (3/2 Abs)

1st Mair’s Glenauld Ovanta – Loved the expression on this beautiful 17 month old dark brindle bitch. Compact & square in profile with a strong topline, good bone, muscle & excellent feet. Straight legs, good angles throughout with chest just needing to develop a touch more. Sound & true on the move. Made a good play for BOB but just lost out on maturity & togetherness on the move.

Open (4/2 Abs)

1st Lafferty’s Geenawell Lorenzo – Quality 3 year old brindle boy with so much to like. Typical head with correct proportions. Lovely length & shape of neck flowing into a strong back with good croup & tail set. Standing well over himself with lovely shoulder placement & depth of chest. Moved with a fluid, agile stride, produced by a well muscled & powerful hindquarters. Won a hard fought BOB & only just missed out on a group place.

2nd Mair’s Ch Sulez Scorcher At Glenauld – Another beautiful dark brindle boy, just 15 months old but with such showmanship. Classic head with a kind expression, slightly shorter coupled than 1 with strong back, short well muscled loin & balanced angulation. Could just do with a little more time to develop through his chest, however I was not at all surprised to learn that he is already a Champion. Could so easily have been my BOB on another day.

Rottweiler

Graduate (4/0 Abs)

1st Lambert’s Seittor Voodoo Spell – I was quite taken with this very pretty 8 month old bitch with dark eyes & pigmentation. So much to like at such a tender age. She presented a lovely outline with good length & strength of neck, flowing into a straight back & well muscled loin. Correct length to height ratio & good depth of chest for her age. Standing well on strong, straight, well boned legs & good feet. Moved with a powerful drive from the rear & a steadiness beyond her years. BOB, BP, Adult Group 2 & Puppy Group 1.

2nd Lambert’s Seittor Cast A Spell – Litter sister to 1 & so many of the same virtues. Ever so slightly less well angulated but still presenting a beautiful outline & with a very appealing head & expression.

3rd Hislop’s Olearia Queen Of Clubs

Open (5/1 Abs)

1st Bunton’s Seittor Look Of Love – 2 year old boy with an attractive head piece & dark eyes. Balanced in profile with good angulation, correct depth of chest, standing on straight legs & good feet. A little exuberant on the move & giving his handler a hard time but showing the power & thrust that I’d expect to see for this breed.

2nd Bunton’s Seittor Moment In Time – Another sound & attractive boy of similar style to my 1st place. Almost 4 years old with a strong topline & good depth of chest. I just preferred the bone & angulation on 1.

3rd Bunton’s Jacraila Valdermar

Dobermann

Graduate (3/3 Abs)

Open (4/2 Abs)

1st Verrall’s Grafmax Oberon At Camperdown JW – Lovely, striking boy who I was surprised was just 2 years old. He has a lovely head with an alert, yet kind expression. Beautiful balanced profile with the correct body to leg ratios, strong straight back with slightly sloping topline which was rock solid on the move. He stood square on well boned, straight legs & deep, compact feet. When moving he displayed powerful drive & was dead straight coming & going. Expertly handled. I would love to see him in a bigger ring. Delighted to award him BOB & Group 1.

2nd Cairns’ Avectir Teraline Du Russia At Lamarg – 5 year old boy with a good square profile, nice angles front & rear, a lovely length & flow through the neck into a strong back which remained solid on the move. Would have preferred a little more width to the chest.

Great Dane

Graduate (2/2 Abs)

Open (5/0 Abs)

1st Martin’s Keishant Venus – Beautiful 4 year old fawn bitch, a picture of dignity, elegance & poise. Strong yet feminine through her head. Balanced in angulation, beautiful length & arch to her neck which flowed into a strong topline with straight back, slightly arched loin & good croup. Deep chest to elbows & ample forechest. Most confident mover in the class which showed in her free, ground covering gait. BOB & another who was pushing hard for a group place.

2nd Martin’s Keishant Zeus – Brother to 1st & essentially a masculine version of her. Handsome head in proportion with body. Good depth & width of chest, standing well on straight well boned legs. Just pipped by his sister on freedom of movement today.

3rd Young’s Roucandane Summer Breeze

Hovawart

Open (1/0 Abs)

1st Tyerman & Challoner’s Farmwatch Snow Shadow – 5 year old black & gold boy with a delightful character & an attractive head with correct proportions & a scissor bite. He is well angulated at both ends & has decent bone & good feet. He was very distracted by smells on the floor today which did affect his movement somewhat but he was also moving rather close on the down & back. BOB

AVNSC Working

Open (1/0 Abs)

1st O’Donnell’s Kalaslane Revenge For Neukiebear (IKC) SHCEX – A very sound & balanced Russian Black Terrier bitch. 5 years old & showing with such attitude. Attractive head with dark, obliquely set eyes & correct scissor bite. Moderately angulated at both ends with a strong level back, well muscled loin & high set tail. Chest to elbows, although I did expect to feel a little bit more forechest. She stands on straight, well boned legs & good feet. She powered round the ring with an easy ground covering gait. BOB & another contender for a group place.

Working Group

1st Dobermann - Verrall’s Grafmax Oberon At Camperdown JW

2nd Rottweiler - Lambert’s Seittor Voodoo Spell

3rd Siberian Husky – Jones’ Ch Icynights Devils Desire – Lovely 4 year old grey & white bitch with a beautiful foxy expression & a look of pure femininity. She has a beautiful length of neck which flows into a strong level topline with a well muscled, slightly arched loin & correct croup. She floated round the ring with a light footed, ground covering gait, using her correct angulation, bone & feet to propel herself with minimal wasted effort.

4th Alaskan Malamute – Bogle & Horsfield’s Whitewalker Kings Landing At Valknut – Fully mature 5 year old boy in excellent coat & condition. He has the most beautiful head piece with fabulous thick well furred ears. Moderate angulation front & rear with an excellent depth of chest, strong slightly sloping topline & correct tail set & carriage. He moves with drive & covers ground efficiently with little unnecessary upward motion.

Working Puppy Group

1st Rottweiler - Lambert’s Seittor Voodoo Spell

2nd Siberian Husky – Wakker’s Komaksiut’s Glen Devon Av Ratatuyak At Ceannabeinne – very sweet 8 month old black & white boy with the most beautiful foxy head, dark eyes & correct ears. Good length of neck, balanced angulation & with the correct ratio of length to height, good leg length & lovely feet. Clearly still learning the ropes, he was sensitively handled & gave a very good account of himself. I look forward to watching him grow both physically & in confidence.
