Critique Hampshire Gundog Society (27th August 2023)

My sincerest thanks goes to the society for my invitation to judge Chesapeake Bay Retrievers at their premier open show. Special thanks to the committee for such a well run show and to my 2 ring stewards who did an excellent job of keeping the ring in good order.

Thanks to the exhibitors, all dogs were nicely conditioned today. Lovely to see.

SPECIAL YEARLING (1/0)

Hayes Tideflight Floki,

Male of just 14 months but well grown on, lovely masculine head on a strong neck and leading in to good shoulders. Ribs well sprung for his young age with a super strong loin. Angulation matching nicely fore and aft, standing on tidy feet. Coat of excellent texture and density. Would like a touch more chest but I’m sure that will come with age. His movement was full of enthusiasm today but when settled moves well. RBOB.

POST GRADUATE (3/1)

Tregunno Arnac Bay Ibis,

4 year old bitch, pretty feminine head and super front assembly, lovely sprung ribs and well conditioned throughout. Rear end super strong and well put together. Standing on nice feet. Slightly out of coat but what she did have was good, Would prefer a little more enthusiasm on the move and a little weight off would benefit this bitch.

Herring Battsrock Sweet Child O Mine

Another very pretty femine bitch and again of super condition. Love her front assembly, strong throughout and moves well. Again good angles and enough chest. Nice steady movement and strong through her rear. Unfortunately her tail carriage lets her down.

Baxandall Sharbae Prettiest Star

Lovely lighter brown bitch who is just making herself known as a veteran at 7 years old. Very pretty head and a nice strong neck. Plentifully sprung ribs with good lay of shoulders. Loins not as strong as others but still nicely conditioned. Rear assembly good with angles to match the front, moved with good reach and drive, plenty of power. Wonderful dense coat with excellent texture. BOB.
