South Of England Irish Setter Club

The South of England Irish Setter Club at Newbury 3rd June 2023. My thanks go to the committee for their kind invitation to judge their open show. My thanks also to Julie and Gill for their help stewarding for me. The weather was lovely and sunny with a cool breeze and shade for the dogs to stand in. My overall impression was that we are in danger of losing the lovely parallel planes that Irish Setters heads should have and that along with their distinctive coat colour makes them stand out from other setter breeds. Movement is a work in progress still needing to be addressed. All were well presented, and I was happy with my choices overall. So good the sun was shining, there is no better sight than Irish Setters outside with the sun on their coats. It was an honour and a privilege to over all your lovely dogs. Minor Puppy Dog. No Entries Puppy Dog 2 (0) 1st Penclippen Jubilee Flame. Well-built baby with a long lean head with raised brows and nice brown eyes, lowset ears, well developed occiput, and arched neck. He is still quite raw at the moment. Good shoulders and pronounced sternum, elbows tucked in and with good bone, lovely depth to chest, good spring of rib. He has just enough hind angulation and short hocks. Moved steadily going and coming and in profile. His adult coat is just coming through and was in lovely condition. BPD 2nd Penclippen Celtic Flyer. Litter brother to 1st. He is also still a bit raw, with dark eyes and pronounced occiput and arch to his neck which is clean and let into well laid shoulders, lovely front assembly and has good spring of rib, with nice arch through the loin, he has nice angles fore and aft. His topline drops off at the croup a bit more than I would like. Moved steadily. His coat is in super condition and both boys shone in the sun. Junior Dog 2(0) 1st Loganrish out of the Town. This young man has a lovely head with lovely chiselling below his dark eyes and pronounced occipital bone and arch to his neck. Gentle slope to his topline and correct set on tail. He has a pronounced sternum and depth to chest, elbows tucked in with good bone and good spring of rib leading to nice arch to loin and decent hind assembly. He moved well. Another whose coat was in super condition and shone in the sun. 2nd Repeat of 2nd in Puppy. Yearling Dog 1 (0) 1st Thendara Firecracker at Clanoventa. He stood alone. His stronger but in proportion head has nice finish to foreface with raised brows and dark eyes and lowset ears. longish neck let into shoulders well laid back with nice return of forearm, elbows tucked in. He has a pronounced sternum and good depth to his chest and good spring of rib; he is slightly long in loin with decent angulation and short hocks. With the sun shining it showed the lovely condition of his coat. Novice Dog 2 (0) Repeat of Puppy Under Graduate Dog 1 (0) 1st Repeat of 1st in Junior. Graduate Dog 4 (0) 1st Clonageera Touch of Gold. His head is a touch stronger than I normally like but everything is in proportion with correct squarish finish to muzzle, would prefer slightly less flew, dark eye and raised brows, moderately long neck, he is clean over his shoulders and has agood forechest. He has good spring of rib and arched loin with gently sloping topline and slight drop off to tail carried well on the move. Nice bend to stifle and short hocks and nice feet. Another whose rich mahogany coat was in super condition shining in the sun. On the move he showed good reach in profile. 2nd Covarney it takes time with Stourford. He has lovely dark eyes, pronounced occipital bone with slight arch to his neck, lowset ears. He has lovely front assembly and good spring of rib. Good topline flowinggently down into well set on tail. Moved okay. 3rd Reclyst the Celt. Post Graduate Dog 6 (1) 1st Kerryfair Lucky Seven. Lovely boy. Very typey. Classic refined beautiful head, squarish finish to his muzzle raised brows over lovely dark brown eyes giving a soft quizzical expression. He has a slight arch to his neck. He has good depth to his chest and is well well ribbed up, nice bend to stifle and short hocks. Moved steadily. 2nd Gwendariff Tullys Red Arrows. Different in type to first with a lovely head, long enough in neck, good shoulders with return of forearm and forechest with elbows tucked in, good spring of rib, nice arch through loin. Moved okay. Both boys had a lovely shine to their coats in the sunshine. 3rd Bluebyeyou Love Affair at Derrydore. Limit Dog 3(0) 1st Loganrish Lets go Crazy. He is finer in head but not feminine, moderately long neck with slight arch, gentle slope to topline leading into well set on tail. Plenty of forechest and good depth to his chest, good arch through his loin with good angulation and short hocks. Well presented with rich mahogany coat shining in the sun. 2nd Oakdene Schiehallion. Heavier set than 1st but in proportion with squarish finish to muzzle and dark eyes and low set ears, gentle slope to his topline. He has good spring to his ribs with nice arch through his loin, good angulation, and short hocks. His profuse well presented chestnut coat shone in the sun. Both boys moved well. 3rd Reclyst Head full of Dreams. Open Dog. 4 (0) 1st Sh Ch Lynwood Hocus Pocus at Settesoli JW. Lovely refined head with raised brows and lovely dark hazel eyes giving that soft quizzical expression that we look for. Low set ears. Slight arch to his neck leading into his topline that gently slopes down to his well set on tail. He has well sprung ribs giving plenty of heart room and nice arch through his loin. Good angulation and short hocks, and nice feet he looked a picture with his rich chestnut coat shining in the sun. Moved steadily with good reach in profile. I had no hesitation in awarding him BD and BiS. 2nd Covarney Paco Rabanne at Sourford. Different in type to 1st but with correct head planes and squarish finish to foreface and dark hazel eyes. He has a moderately long neck leading into gently sloping topline and well set on tail. He has good shoulders and elbows that are tucked in with good spring of rib and a decent hind assembly. With the sun showing the great condition in his coat. Moved okay. 3rd Redclyst Boris. Veteran Dog 1 (0) 1st Strathmead Huckleberry at Settesoli. He stood alone. 8yrs old boy has a lovely head with his dark eyes having that cheeky expression. His long neck is set into well laid shoulders, good depth to his chest and good spring of rib, he has slight arch to his loin and nice hind angulation and short hocks. Gentle slope to his topline and well set on tail. He powered round the ring enjoying his day out. BVD and BViS. Minor Puppy Bitch 1 (0) 1st Clonageera it’s a new dawn at Heathclare. She stood alone. She is still quite raw with a fair amount of maturing to do. Her head is long and lean with raised brows, low set ears pronounced occipital bone with moderate length to her neck let into her shoulders. Plenty of depth to her chest, decent bend to stifle and short hocks. Moved okay. Puppy 2 (0) 1st Penclippen Celtic Asthore. Lovely puppy. 8 mth old with a lovely head and dark eyes with raised brows, lowset ears, moderately long neck leading into well laid shoulders with good return of forearm. She has good bone and pronounced sternum with good depth to chest. She moved steadily going and coming and in profile. Lovely rich dark flat coat shone in the sun. BPiS 2nd Repeat of 1st in Minor Puppy Junior 3(1) 1st Corranroo Viennese Waltz. Lovely head with correct planes and dark eyes under raised brows. She has lowset ears. She has a slight arch to her neck let into well laid shoulders and good return of forearm, good front assembly and depth to chest, well sprung ribs leading to arch over loin, gentle slope to topline and well set on tail. Moved steadily going and coming and in profile. 2nd Riverbrue Ophelia Love at Glennara. Another with a lovely head. Lovely dark eyes, moderately long neck and lowset ears. She has well laid back shoulders and good return of forearm with a gentle slope to her topline. Good bend to stifle and short hocks. Moved okay. Two lovely girls, I was splitting hairs. Yearling 2 (0) 1st Polmennor Castaspell JW. Lovely girl with a refined head and her dark eyes sparkling. She has lowset ears. Her topline flows from the top of the neck to the tip of her tail. She has a moderately long neck, and well laid shoulders. Good depth to her chest with ribs well sprung and nice arch through the loin She has a lovely hind assembly and she moved well showing good reach and extension in profile. 2nd Camaling Rose Royale. She has long and lean head with dark eyes and long neck set into well laid shoulders, lovely gentle slope to topline with slight drop to set of tail. She has a nice arch through the loin. Decent angulation and short hocks. Moved okay. Novice Bitch 2 (1) 1st Carnbargus Happy returns. Stood alone. She has a nice head with good finish to foreface. Moderate neck let into well laid shoulder with decent forechest and depth to chest. She has a nice arch through the loin and gentle slope to her topline to slight drop to tail. Good hind angulation. Moved okay. Under Grduate Bitch 3 (1) 1st Loganrish Taste of Diamonds. She is fine in head with raised brows and dark eyes, slight arch to moderately long neck. She has a decent front assembly and good spring of rib giving plenty heart room with nice arch to loin. Good hind angulation and short hocks. Moved okay. 2nd Alolfrana U’are beautiful of Cadogcourt. Lovely head with raised brows and lowset ears, moderate neck and good spring of rib and nice arch through the loin. Enough hind angulation. Short hocks. Moved okay. Graduate Bitch 8 (1 w/d) 1st Gwendariff Dazzling Diva. JW. She has a refined head with lowset ears and long neck. She has gentle slope to topline running in a smooth line from behind occipital bone to slight drop of tail. Good front assembly and well sprung ribs. Just enough arch through the loin and good hind assembly. Moved okay. 2nd Corranroo Hot Sensation. Another with a refined head, long neck with decent front assembly and good depth to her chest and good spring of rib, short hocks. Moved okay. 3rd Redclyst Glenury Oiche Chiuin Post Graduate Bitch 4 (0). 1st Ixia Snow Vixen. Lovely girl. She has a super head with lovely finish to foreface, raised eye brows and dark hazel eyes. She has lowset ears and moderately long neck. Lovely topline running from back of her head in a smooth line down to her correctly set tail. Good front assembly with well spuing ribs giving lots of heart room, nice arch through the loin. Short hocks. Moved well. 2nd Bluebyeyou love in a Mist. She has nice finish to her foreface and correct head planes, good length of neck and gentle slope to her topline. Clean over her shoulders and adequate forechest. Good spring of rib. She is slightly long through the loin, good depth to her chest. Moved okay. 3rd Twoacres Double Bubble. Limit Bitch 5(1) 1st Gwendariff Chili Powder JW. She has a nice square finish to muzzle and dark hazel eyes with raised brows and lowset ears, she has a moderately long neck with a good front assembly. Good spring of rib giving plenty of heart room and arched through the loin. Well set on tail. Short hocks. She moved well 2nd Lochfrae Nina Simone. She is a rangier girl with a nice head and square finish to muzzle raised brows and dark eyes. Moderately long neck leading into decent front assembly, gentle slope topline, nice through the loin. Short hocks. Both girls were in super condition with sun on their coats.Moved okay. 3rd Konakakela Just meant to b Siochana Open Bitch 4 (0) 1st Twoacres Promise of Spring with Avocet. Lovely refined head with dark eye with soft expression. She has a moderate long neck. Well laid shoulder and good return of forearm with good forechest and great depth of chest. Well sprung ribs giving plenty of heart room. Super gently sloping topline running from occiput through to well set on tail. She is nicely arched through the loin with good hind angulation and short hocks. Moved well holding topline in profile. Loved her. BB and RBiS. 2nd Sh Ch Jetsetter Cristalle to Polmenor (Imp Rus) JW. Lovely feminine head with raised brow and dark eye. Moderately long neck set into well laid shoulder, spring to ribs giving plenty heartroom, slight arch to loin. Lovely gentle slope to topline following through to well set on tail. She moved well. Two beautiful girls that will no doubt change places on another day. Veteran Bitch 2 (0) 1st Sandstream Welcome Breeze JW Sh CM. 9 ½ years young. So enjoyed her day. Lovely head with raised brows and dark eyes, moderately long neck let into shoulders well laid back and good return of forearm, good spring of rib, nice arch through the loin. Super topline with gentle slope to correct set on tail. Decent hind angulation and short hocks. Moved with panache round the ring. 2nd Gwendariff Lily the Pink. 7 years young. Another lovely girl unfortunate to meet 1st today. She has lovely lean head with raised brows and dark eyes, long neck set into a good front assembly. She has great depth to her chest and arch through loin. Lovely topline gently sloping to tail, nice hind angulation, nice feet. Moved well. Judge. Mrs Linda Murchison.
