Leicester City Canine Society 28th August 2023 Staffordshire Bull Terriers - Judge Lesley McDonald (Tusselstaff) Thank you to the Club for inviting me to judge Staffordshire Bull Terriers and to the East Midlands SBT Club for sponsoring the breed at this show. I found lots to like in all the classes and a huge thank you to the exhibitors for allowing me the opportunity to assess your dogs. No major mouth faults were found, and all were well presented. Lastly a big thanks to my able ring stewards. Puppy (4) 1. Skyland Consort Well balanced black brindle bitch, feminine head with good skull to muzzle ratio, dark eyes, neat rose ears, all making for a lovely expression. Standing four square she is well balanced all round, has a straight front, level topline, short coupled and neat well-padded feet. Moved and handled well. Pleased to award her Best Puppy in Breed and pleased to hear she was also placed TPG2. Well done and good luck with her for the future. 2. Kalostaff Es Lo Que Es Pleasing black brindle dog, well-proportioned head, distinct stop, good expression, would prefer a tighter lip if I’m nit picking. Bodying up well for his age he fits the standard well, sound front, well boned forequarters, nice amount of lift. Moved well once settled and got into his stride. 3. Kahamaia Circle of Fire Junior (3) 1. New Performer at Fletchstaff Very attractive black brindle bitch with lots to like. Clean unexaggerated head with pleasing expression, good balance between muzzle and skull, dark eyes which she never takes off you, well set ears. Presented in good condition, she is clean as a whistle, up on the leg, and nice tuck up. Liked her very much and she was also placed in the following two classes but felt her interest start to wane as time progressed. 2. Sikaistaff Cask Strength Standard black brindle bitch, clean head, displays good ear carriage when you can grab her attention. Nothing overdone in the body department and feel there is still lots more to come with maturity, movement was ok when she decided to settle. She played her handler up a lot on the day though did see to enjoy herself, evidenced by the wagging tail throughout. Just preferred the expression and profile of 1st on the day. 3. Skyland Imperial Yearling (4, 2 abs) 1. New Performer at Fletchstaff 1st in Junior 2. Kamaristaffs Royal Velvet Quality black brindle bitch with lots of virtue, stronger headed than 1st, distinct stop, well pronounced cheeks, good underjaw, dark eye and good ear set. Liked her overall balance, she is well off for bone, good spring of rib and strong in hams. Presented in good condition, with gleaming coat and worked well with her handler Post Graduate (3) A nice class with a trio of delightful bitches each displaying different virtues 1. Illori Constellation JW Smart black brindle bitch that I have judged before and who has matured nicely since then. Nice blend of bull and terrier, she is clean in head, short in muzzle, neat ear carriage (when she chooses to use them), enough brisket and spring of rib, good tuck up at loin and defined waistline when viewed from above. Shown in excellent condition and displayed good rapport between her and her handler. Liked her side profile very much which won her this class. Pleased to award her Best in Breed. 2. New Performer at Fletchstaff 1st in Junior and Yearling. Just unlucky to meet 1st today 3. Alport Dark Queen Open (4,2) 1. Illori Akinlana JW ShCM VW Fit black brindle dog who I have judged previously and is still brimming with virtue – only the silver sprinkling belies that he is a veteran. Clean as a whistle all round he has a pleasing head shape with good head to muzzle ratio. Looking good from all angles he excels in front, good reach of neck, good tuck up and well-defined waist, good angulation front and rear and well-muscled rear quarters. Up on his toes throughout the class, he was presented in fit hard condition, Moved and handled well. Thought highly of him in the final challenge. 2. Tillcarr Fire Inigma Pretty black brindle bitch of good proportions, she has the sweetest of expressions, clean feminine head, dark well-placed eyes, good front though had a tendency to lean into her handler, felt she was carrying a little excess weight today which played into the decision making for places
