Luton Canine Society Open Show – 31st December 2023

Retriever (Labrador)

I would like to thank Luton Canine Society for the invitation to judge Labradors at their open show and for the exhibitors for graciously accepting placements.

Puppy (6, 3 abs)

1st – Metcalfe’s Baileydale Rocket Man

6 month old Yellow dog. A big, raw puppy but everything in proportion with good angulation front and back. Gentle head and expression. Well schooled. Well sprung ribs and short coupling. Nice movement and lovely tail carriage, both on standing and when moving. Stood on fantastic bone and feet. Will watch this puppy mature with interest. BEST PUPPY

2nd – Lapper’s Tomative Annabelle

11 month old Black bitch. Presented in good, hard condition. Good coat condition. Well handled and moved smoothly. Gentle, feminine head with a melting expression. I left she lacked in the front compared to 1.

3rd – Young’s Potterzuri Mister Mufasa

Junior (6, 2 abs)

1st – Metcalfe’s Rumhill Bertie Wooster by Baileydale

12 month old Chocolate dog. This Chocolate boy is one who I have watched ringside and was pleased to have the opportunity to go over him and he did not disappoint. Cracking eye colour with a clean, masculine head. Very clean outline with good topline and reach of neck. Well angulated front and rear, demonstrated by his free, clean movement. Good bone and feet. Looking forward to seeing him mature further. Could not be denied Best of Breed. BEST OF BREED

2nd – Glaister & Bordacs’ Bellamar Love Me Do

14 month old Black bitch. Smaller stamp of bitch but this did not detract from quality and type. Fantastic thick coat. She is well muscled and this is reflected in her powerful movement. Good topline and tail set. Well handled. I would have preferred slightly less weight.

3rd – Young’s Potterzuri Mister Mufasa

Graduate (12, 4 abs, 1 withdrawn)

1st – Glaister & Bordacs’ Bellamar Love Me Do

2nd in Junior.

2nd – Harris’s Winsleywood Wellington JW

20 month old Yellow dog. Larger stamp of dog. Sufficient angulation fore and rear and moved well. Stood on good bone and feet but was unfortunately dropping coat on the day. Well sprung ribs with short coupling.

3rd – Bambrook’s Winsleywood Waghorn at Ravoakar JW

Open (7, 3 abs, 1 withdrawn)

1st – Scutcher’s Winsleywood Wild Daisy JW

Yellow Bitch. Smaller stamp of bitch. Impressive in outline but slightly let herself down on the move on this occasion. Good angulation all round. Very gentle and feminine head which was complemented by a melting expression. I would have preferred neater feet. She was dropping her coat on this occasion. RESERVE BEST OF BREED

2nd – Sadler’s Talifen Gentleman Jack

Yellow Dog. Larger stamp of dog. Gentle nature and expression. He was presented in good coat and had sufficient angulation front and rear. He also let himself down on the move, not being particularly clean in his movement on this occasion. Good tail set but carriage was slightly high on the move. Stood on good bone but as with 1, I would have preferred neater feet.

3rd – Foster’s Midnight Shadow Magic
