Minehead & District Canine Society Open Show – 5th November 2023

Retriever (Labrador)

I would like to thank Minehead & District Canine Society for the invitation to judge Labradors at their open show and for the exhibitors for graciously accepting placements.

Puppy (2, 1 abs)

1st – Mills’ Lembas Black Betty

8 ½ month old Black bitch. Littermate to 1st in Graduate. A beautiful gentle head with nice ear set and eye colour. Lovely feet, and bone and a good coat. Nice rear angulation. Slightly softer condition than her littermate which was reflected in her movement, although this will improve with age.

Graduate (6, 4 abs)

1st – Mills’ Lembas Captain Jack

8 ½ month old Black dog. Littermate to 1st in Puppy.

A solid puppy with a lot of puppy coat! A very happy, confident pup who was handled to his advantage. Masculine head, lovely ear set and good eye colour. Excellent angulation front and rear, with strong muscular hindquarters. Lovely tight feet and plenty of bone. Moved well. BEST PUPPY & RESERVE BEST OF BREED

2nd – Rudge’s Chyanhal Penlee

3yr old Black bitch. Enjoying her day out and giving her handler a bit of a hard time! Good coat condition. Nice rear angulation but lacking at the front which affected her movement. Stood on good bone and feet.

Post Graduate (4, 2 abs)

1st – Kent’s Trewinnard Bespoke

3yr old Yellow bitch. Gorgeous gentle, feminine head. Nice angulation front and back. Good bone and feet. Lacked animation on the move but lovely tail action returned when stood. Presented in well-muscled condition and good coat.

2nd – Moody’s Trendlewood Ebony and Ivory

3yr old Black dog. Presented in hard condition. Lovely masculine head and good eye colour. Currently between coats. Moved with drive but movement could have been cleaner.

Open (5, 1 abs)

1st – Mills’ Jaybec Winter Wispa

3yr old Yellow bitch. Caught my eye when stood and did not disappoint on examination. Outstanding in profile with good angulation front and rear. Gentle, feminine head and lovely expression. Moved smoothly and with drive, although a little bit close behind. Very well handled and presented in well-muscled condition with a good coat. BEST OF BREED

2nd – Mills’ Lembas Kakamora

4yr old Black bitch. Dam to 1st in Puppy and 1st in Graduate. Gentle head and nice expression which was complimented by good eye colour. Strong body with well sprung ribs and short coupled. Smooth movement but lacked drive. Dropping her coat on this day.

3rd – Evans’ Chyanhal Pentewan at Pudleigh
