Gordon Setters

I would like to thank the committee for the invitation to judge Gordon Setters. I had a super entry and the chance to go over some lovely examples of the breed, making for a very enjoyable day.

Class 227 Puppy (5:0)

1st and BP, McCarthy’s, Hernwood Wizard of Oz. A young dog I have judged before and his movement has definitely improved. He has a substantial head with dark eyes, deep chest and ribs starting to fill, correct angulation to front and rear, deep chest and nice level topline and moved really well.

2nd Ashtons, Forester’s Northern Hunter of Darkmoor with Gadieburn (IMP GER). A lovely young boy with a typical head and pleasing expression, good strong bone straight front with well angulated front and rear construction, held his topline well and moved around the ring well albeit a little loose, he will only improve with age.

3rd Sandifords, Hernwood Love Potion

Class 228 Junior (5:1)

1st and RBOB. Morgan’s, Caradilis Sky Rocket. A lot to like about this dog. He has a strong head with a pleasing expression and lovely eyes, straight front and good forechest, good length of neck leading onto well laid back shoulders, deep chest and ribs starting to spring, good rear angulation and he has good bone with correct tan. Good length from hip to hock. On the move he is lovely to watch as he moves with a super topline and correct tail with plenty of drive. A lovely dog that I was pleased to award RBOB.

2nd McCarthy’s, Hernwood Wizard of Oz

3rd O’Kelly & Hancocks, Caradilis Little Sparkler

Class 229 Post Graduate (6:1)

1st and BOB. Horn’s, Ordett Love Me Do at Keaswood JW. A nice compact, well presented bitch with a lovely feminine head with soft expression and nice eyes, lovely low set ears and good reach of neck, good forechest with correct front angulation with good layback of shoulder, super bone on this bitch which I like with correct tan, strong rear angulation with stifles well bent. Lovely topline that she held well and plenty of muscle that she used to demonstrate good movement with a lovely gait. This pushed her on to be my BOB.

2nd Johnstons & Boxhalls, Ludstar Macabee at Glenquin (IMP ITA). Nice masculine head with good expression and dark eyes, good reach of neck, acceptable front angulation with good bone, plenty of depth of chest, good strong rear angulation, good level topline with nice tail set. Presented in lovely coat condition with nice feet. Moved well with good free drive. Just needs a little more time to mature to see his full potential.

3rd Sandiford & Mazzeo’s, Hernwood Christmas Prince

Class 230 Open (2:2)
