NORTH RIDING GUNDOG CLUB – 26.08.23

LABRADOR RETRIEVER CRITIQUE

Thank you so much for the committee’s invitation to judge at their show. A superbly ran show with refreshments gladly accepted and Margaret worked well as my steward keeping the ring moving swiftly as I had 3 breeds to judge.

My only criticism would be for the Veterans to be recognised in best in show, making the effort to name a Veteran in each breed to only then have a BVIS rather than 4 placings seemed a little unfair.

Puppy (5,2A)

1 Charlton’s Rocheby Opera Around Foxrush – A 6 month old black bitch who already looks the full package just a smaller version. Lovely eye colour with well set on ears, feminine head and good neck and shoulders. Level topline, great otter tail and in very good double coat. Good bone, moved well and overall balance was pleasing to the eye. BP

2 Smith’s Potterzuri Mister Pumbaa of Flyenpyg – A 7 month old yellow dog with good eye colour, nice shaped head and good shoulders. Enough bone, lacking coat as shown on the tail but set well, good body proportions and neat feet.

Junior (3,2A)

1 Smith’s Flyenpyg Amy Swinehouse – A compact 13 month old black bitch in good double coat and nice tail. She has enough bone, neat feet and moved out well.

Yearling (3,1A)

1 Charlton’s Foxrush Jane Ayre JW – A 20 month old yellow bitch in good coat and nice otter tail. A well balanced feminine head with nice eye colour and good pigmentation. Good construction front and back which showed in free flowing movement. Good bone and balanced in profile. RBOB

2 Flyenpyg Amy Swinehouse – 1st in Junior

Graduate (3,1A)

1 Bishop’s Northernjoy Rambling Rose – A 4 year old chocolate bitch with good proportions, excellent coat and good otter tail. Nice eye colour, feminine head, deep chest, good reach of neck into well laid shoulders. Moved well, pushed for RBOB.

2 Parkinson’s Burnthorn Morning Mist – A 3 year old black bitch with a nice head, eye colour and pleasing expression. In good coat with otter tail, good bone and neat feet. Moved ok, preferred overall outline of 1.

Open (4,1A)

1 Smith’s Flyenpyg Porky Pig JW OSW – A 5 year old yellow dog, good pigmentation, masculine head and nice eye colour. Strong neck into well laid shoulders and level topline kept on the move. Good bone and coat with nice otter tail. Good turn of stifle, well muscled and moved out well. BOB and pleased to see him go BIS 4.

2 Parkinson’s Burnthorn Box office – A 6 year old yellow bitch, nice shaped head with kind expression just lacking in pigmentation today. Good bone and in good coat, good body proportions, well constructed and moved well.

3 Smith’s Flyenpgy Snout Like it VW – Best Veteran in Breed.
