NORTH RIDING GUNDOG CLUB – 26.08.23

GOLDEN RETRIEVER CRITIQUE

Thank you so much for the committee’s invitation to judge at their show. A superbly ran show with refreshments gladly accepted and Margaret worked well as my steward keeping the ring moving swiftly as I had 3 breeds to judge.

My only criticism would be for the Veterans to be recognised in best in show, making the effort to name a Veteran in each breed to only then have a BVIS rather than 4 placings seemed a little unfair.

Minor Puppy (1,1A)

Puppy (5,2)

1 Martin’s Garline Guarding Lola – A 9 month old bitch, with a nice eye and good pigmentation and sweet expression. A good layering of coat with a level topline and correct tail. Plenty of bone, elbows in, good angulations and moved out well for her age. Nicely balanced. BP

2 Lochead’s Kaylaton Heidi Weiss – Another 9 month old bitch much longer in body than 1. Head shape was OK but she had good pigmentation. Strong neck and shoulders, level topline, correct bone and nice feet. In good coat and moved well.

Junior (8,2A)

1 Broadhead’s Strathlon Spirit Of Ecstasy – My winner straight away going by her outline. A 16 month old bitch with a lovely head, correct eye colour, dark pigmentation and pleasing expression. Deep in rib with a level topline, well muscled, nice feet and good turn of stifle. Good balanced outline in good coat especially showing on the tail. Moved well with drive, shown to perfection.

2 Rhodes’ Kenzduo Honey Amethyst at Ashrose – A 13 month old dog, darker in coat and up to size. Masculine head, good eye colour and pigmentation. Level topline with good bone, good turn of stifle and in good coat, moved well.

Yearling (5,0A)

1 Broadhead’s Strathlon Spirit Of Ecstasy – see Junior

2 Bell & Bell Hoaaloha Kealoha JW – A 19 month old bitch with a lovely head and dark eye. Good reach of neck into good shoulders. A sound topline which was held on the move, good bone and nice turn of stifel. Moved well, just preferred more substance of 1.

Graduate (5,1A)

1 Broadhead’s Strathlon Spirit Of Ecstasy – see Junior

2 Fosters’ Eau My Gold V D Corner Brook for Auristela – A petite 2 year old bitch with a lovely feminine head, good eye colour and pigmentation. Plenty of coat on a well balanced body, enough bone and neat feet. Moved out well.

Post Graduate (3,0A)

1 Maddison’s Jaymardy Sweet Caroline – A 2 year old bitch with a feminine head and kind eye. Good neck and shoulder, good front assembly with excellent forechest. Good bone and neat feet, nice turn of stifle. Good topline and moved out well.

2 Lochhead’s Bluebraes Meadow Pipit – A 5 year old bitch, nice enough head, feminine, dark eye. Nice length of neck leading into a level topline with good angulations. In good coat clothed over enough bone, tail used well on the move.

3 Broadhead’s Strathlon Spirit Of Ecstasy – sadly now knocked out of the challenge, perhaps do 1 or 2 classes going forward.

Limit (8,1A)

1 Martin’s Garline Love So deep – A 4 year old bitch, lighter in colour. Presenting a lovely outline both balanced and clean. Head is feminine with a nice eye colour and good pigmentation. Good bone and neat feet, good forechest and correct angulations. Lovely neck leading onto a level topline kept on the move, well muscled, nice turn of stifle. Moved well fore and aft. BOB

2 Walker & Roberts’ Gloi You make loving fun – A 2 year old golden bitch looking fairly heavy in outline. Lovely head though with a kind eye and good pigmentation. Good forechest and enough bone with good angulations. Plenty of coat, moved well keeping level topline all the way.

Open (6,0A)

1 Fosters’ Mockingjay V D Corner Brook to Auristela – A 6 year old lighter coloured bitch looking very balanced. Feminine head with dark eye, good front with enough bone. Plenty of coat with good feathering on tail. Well let down hocks, moved well. Shown in good condition. RBOB
