Many thanks to the committee for the invitation to judge at this well run show in a lovely venue. Superb hospitality, lovely food and great dogs. Thanks so much to my stewards Tim & Janet who kept me on the straight and narrow, kept things moving along and along with the friendly exhibitors provided a great atmosphere. Thank you to all who entered, I hope you enjoyed your day as much as I did.

Golden Retriever Puppy 1st, BP, BOB, Puppy Group 1 Pratt’s Rosyth Kind of Magic. Most attractive pup of almost 12 mths who appealed greatly for her overall balance and attitude. Lovely coat and condition, good pigmentation. Great headpiece with kind, intelligent expression, neck showing strength and flowed into well laid shoulders. Great front assembly with ample bone, good return of upper arm and lovely feet. Ribs have correct spring and depth for her age and are carried well back to a short strong loin. Topline level with well set and carried tail. Good rear angulation, correct muscle and width to second thigh and strong hocks allowed her to move with drive and fluidity. She’s lovely.

Golden Retriever Junior

1st Law’s Shebelta Sweet Home Alabama. Most balanced in this class. 16 mth pale gold boy. Lovely head and ears, good flews, correct dark pigment. Strength to his head but not overdone, strong neck into shoulders, good bone and feet, correct topline but tended fly his tail a little on the move. Lovely coat and body condition.

2nd Broadhead’s Strathlon Spirit of Ecstasy. Another of 16 mths, this lady was steadier on the move than 1st but didn’t present such a balanced picture nevertheless she fully deserved her place. Good head with gentle expression and dark eye, correct ears. Neck flowed well into good shoulders, level topline and balanced fore and aft angulation. Moved well.

In lovely bloom, correct head with gentle expression, clean neck into shoulders, good return and correct angulation, strong neck into well laid shoulders and level topline. RES Stanland’s Johannson Saint Beatrich

VHC Reid’s Sybiton Ginger Nut

Labrador Retriever Post Graduate

1st Parkinson’s Burnthorn Morning Mist. Mature black bitch who was absolutely full of fun today. Presented a well balanced picture when standing. Correct head, strong neck, good angulation and lovely bone and good feet. Good through shoulder and topline, deep well sprung barrel ribs extending well back, nice muscle and width to thighs. Moved with enthusiasm.

2nd Morrow’s Rhythm Lacey. Nice young liver bitch, not the balanced picture of 1st being a little shorter in neck and not so strong in muzzle. Clean though neck into well laid shoulders, lovely legs and feet, good spring and length of ribs, short strong loin, balanced angulation and moved with drive although a shade close behind.

Labrador Retriever Open

1st, BOB Parkinson’s Burnthorn Box Office. 6 yr yellow girl who was also full of mischief and having a great time, her tail never stopped. Appealed in overall balance. Correct head with good ears and strength to jaw. Strong neck flowed into well laid shoulders, correct return and length to upper arm. Lovely bone, straight strong forelegs and good feet. Level topline, well set on tail. In great condition, not carrying too much weight. Moved enthusiastically with drive, occasionally close behind when over excited.

Cocker Spaniel Puppy

1st, BP, Puppy Group 2 Terry’s Shaggylands Sexy And I No It. The sweetest little 10 ½ mth bitch. Initially a little overawed but soon came into herself and gained confidence. Lovely compact profile, appealing head and expression, great dark eye. Lovely through neck, correct shoulders, fabulous bone and feet. Coat coming along nicely as is spring of rib. Level topline and correct set on and carriage of tail. Movement was a little hard to assess, might benefit from a little looser lead, but she’s a baby and will settle.

Cocker Spaniel Junior

1st Terry’s Shaggylands True Colours. Little brother to previous. Similar comments apply although he is a little longer cast so not the same compact outline currently, although still some growing to do so should come on well. Today he was just not for moving sensibly, he was far too excited and having the best day out.

Cocker Spaniel Post Graduate

1st, BOB, Group 2 Walton’s Annaside Lets Dance. Handsome dog, in fabulous condition, coat in full bloom and presented and handled to advantage. He was not to be ignored today. Classic head, excellent ear set and dark eye, balance and strength to muzzle. Strong neck flowed into well laid sloping shoulders, good length to upper arm and correct forechest. Excellent bone, legs and feet. Compact strong body, short loin, correct bend to stifle, short hocks. Presented a beautiful picture standing and flowed round the ring eating up ground with correct bustling movement and a merry cocker tail that never stopped.

2nd Cox’s Kimapa Kune Kinch. Nice young bitch who is maturing well. Correct balanced head with lovely expression, square muzzle and low set ears. Good neck into shoulders, lovely bone and good legs and feet. Well sprung ribs, short loin, good bend to stifle and correct topline, although tail was a shade low set. Moved out well with drive and enthusiasm.

Cocker Spaniel Open

1st Proudler Kimapa Kocka Kaia. Really lovely mature bitch although not in her best jacket this didn’t detract from her attributes. Beautiful head piece, strong square but feminine muzzle, correct skull and great dark eye and lovely low set ears. Flowed from neck through shoulders and topline. Not quite the substance and bone of some others but she was balanced. Compact and strong in body, well sprung ribs, short loin, moved with drive and a merry bustling action.

2nd Terry’s Shaggylands Desperate Dan. 3 yr male in good coat and condition overall. Correct head, good neck and shoulders, balanced angulation, short hocks, good bone and feet. Correct balance proportions and substance. Moved out well but tail set was a little low.

1st Long & Leeming’s Tryhard Tour De Yorkshire. Lovely male in very good condition and with a lovely coat. Balanced picture on the stack, good head, dark eye, good ears. Clean neck, shoulders sloping and well laid, topline correct. Correct bone, strength and depth to body. He was unsettled by a change of handler and didn’t move as well due to that.

Welsh Springer Spaniel Open

1st, BOB Holmes Glenbrows Innocence. Beautiful lady of 4 yrs with a fabulous disposition, she was having a great day out. In beautiful gleaming coat and condition with moderate feathering. Presented a compact balanced outline. Lovely head, slight dome to skull, obvious stop, good muzzle, correct ear and good eye colour. Muscular neck into sloping shoulders, clean throat, good legs and feet. Depth to chest and spring of rib which extends back to short strong loin. Irish Setter Post Graduate

1st Wheeldon’s Colemist Take A Chance On Me. Lovely lady in her prime at 6 yrs. Another who initially wasn’t too happy today in the rather windy conditions outside. She has a lovely headpiece, with intelligent expression, lovely fine ears set low. Slightly arched neck into well laid shoulders. Firm in topline, deep in chest and correctly angled fore and aft. Drove out well on good legs and feet.

Irish Setter Open

1st, BOB Wheeldon’s Colemist Name Of The Game. Littermate to PG, similar comments apply, appealed in head, well angulated and good condition and coat. Not the topline of his sister today.

The most appealing head with the gentlest expression and a twinkle in her eye. Long and lean oval skull, prominent occiput, raised brows and balanced foreface. Crest to her neck, which had strength and flowed into her well set apart well laid shoulders. Strong legs with great oval bone and obvious tendons and great feet. Correct unexaggerated topline, deep chest, well sprung ribs extending well back. Broad long thighs with excellent muscle, short strong hocks which all together resulted in her being able to drive powerfully and accurately round the ring. When put together with her excellent coarse, dense coat and attitude, she was the whole package and couldn’t be beaten.

Hungarian Vizsla Puppy

1st, BP, BOB, Puppy Group 4 Jones, Jones & Burrill’s Silvestre Wednesday. 8 mth pup at I think her first show. She was very distracted as she was constantly looking for her owner which made her very difficult to both go over and assess on the stack and on the move. She is of a good make and shape, in lovely condition with balanced angulation and good muscletone and carried a level topline when she got into her stride, which she did eventually. She was much more settled in the group and better again in the puppy group. I hope her young handler perseveres with her.
