Isle of Ely Canine Society

4th February 2023

Judge – Mrs Jane Eyeington (Meadowdale)

I would like to thank the officers and committee of ‘Isle of Ely Canine Society’ for their kind invitation to judge at this super ‘Premier’ Show. It is lovely to see a bustling open show, with well filled classes. A huge thank you to all the exhibitors for their patience and good humour. It was rather nippy all day and the arena flooring was not to some of the dogs liking today, but I was most delighted with the super dogs I had the pleasure of judging. And last but not least, my very efficient and hard working stewards – Thank you.

Golden Retrievers

Thank you to all the Golden exhibitors, delighted with the quality of your dogs in all the classes, a real pleasure to judge, and close decisions.

Puppy (11,4)

A lovely class of babes, all a really credit to you.

1. Dr & Mrs Oldring - Fairwinds Sky Full Of Stars Over Flaxengold

At only 8 months of age this light golden bitch looked a picture when stood. Thought her just right for size and balance. Her head shows good proportions, and she has such a kind expression from those dark soulful eyes. Her neck is of good length and flows into a firm topline. Standing on well boned limbs. Lovely development of forechest, and deep in the brisket. Her hindquarters show a good width of thigh, which she used to drive around the ring - BP

2. Mr & Mrs Seamons - Ramchaine Luminescence Over Messano (imp nld)

8 month old pale golden bitch, with so much to admire, loved her flowing outline and feminine elegance. She has an appealing head, balanced backskull to foreface, nicely chiselled and dark expressive eyes. Clean through the neck, firm in her topline, and showing good depth and spring to the ribcage. Liked her on the move, keeping her outline whilst showing reach and drive.

3. Mrs Clarke-Gear - Ousevale Grand Slam

Junior (11,4)

1. Ms List - Haydengold Gossip Girl JW

Super 14 month old pale bitch, she caught my eye for her typical outline and sound construction. Feminine head, with a lovely dark eye and pigmentation giving a gentle expression. Having a good flow from nose to tail, whilst holding a level topline. She has a well filled in forechest and the brisket is down to the elbow with well sprung ribcage. Liked her hindquarters with wide thighs, a good bend to the stifle and in good muscle tone. A little out of coat, but beautifully presented and moved out well in the class, such a shame she seemed a little unsettled in the challenge.

2. Mr & Mrs Smith - Goldmarker Luminess (AI)

Eye catching mid gold 17 month old bitch, stood she showed to be harmonious in her proportions and balance. Loved her gentle expression, seemed so keen to please. She is well developed through the body with good depth all through and she is short coupled. Well off for bone and stands on tight feet. Good strength to her hindquarters. Moving with a happy ground covering action. Just not quite as clean behind as winner today

3. Mr, Mrs & Miss Layland - Applecote Love Affair

Post Graduate (10,3)

1. Cruttwell & Carter - Ashbyglen Enchantee JW

Quality 20 month old pale cream bitch, having lovely body proportions and very smart in her outline. Nothing is overdone, just well balanced with unexaggerated symmetry. She looks at you with such a melting expression, from those dark eyes. She has a graceful flow from nose to tail, good clean neck, with lovely depth to the brisket and development of forechest. Standing fore square on well boned legs and tight feet. Holding a firm topline both stood and on the move. Strong wide quarters and being short hock to heel. Put down in good coat and condition. On the move she is positive and true - BOB

2. K Williams - Berrymeade Kilternan Of Busheyhall

Workmanlike mid gold 20 month old dog. He is nicely balanced with a good length of leg and short coupled. Masculine all through, with a pleasing head piece, good width to the back skull, nicely chiselled and dark eye, and pigmentation. Well developed through the body, holding a firm topline both stood and, on the move, did tend to fly his tail a fraction on the move. Moving round the ring with drive and enthusiasm.

So much to like on this 2 year old darker gold dog, with his ever wagging tail. Lovely balance, nothing is overdone, one part flowing into the next. He has a masculine balanced head, and dark, almost smiling eyes. Strong neck of good length, brisket down to the elbows, ribs well sprung with a short strong loin. 1. Mrs Barnes - Saxonbejayz John Kerr

Naughty but nice, this 12 month old dog, liked to give his handler a hard time, but there is no hiding that he has lovely substance all through. He has a masculine head, with good width to the backskull, having the typical frowning brow and toning eye. His neck is strong and muscular, flowing nicely into a firm and well held topline. Lovely depth to the brisket and spring to the ribcage. He stands on well boned limbs and nicely rounded feet. Once he settled, he has precise and positive movement, with an ever wagging tail. Coat a little on the blow.

2. Mrs Barnes - Harasteorra Beta Canis At Saxonbejayz

Kennel mate to winner, 13 months old bitch, who is very raw at present in her body compared to winner. Very much liked her proportions, just needing time to fill out and mature all through. Pleasing balance to her head, showing the moderate curve, low set ears and hazel eye, giving her a gentle expression. Good length of neck, enough depth and rib for age. Moderate in her hindquarters. She was more settled on the move, but tending to lose her topline a fraction.

Her head has the flat skull, long and lean, with strength to the foreface. Flowing seamlessly from nose to a well set on tail. Good depth to the brisket, and length of leg. Holds a firm topline, with the correct length of back. Like her hindquarters, there is a moderate bend of stifle, with strong muscular thighs, with plenty of bum behind the tail. Shown with a lovely harsh jacket and super presentation. She has freedom of movement, and true fore and aft - BOB

2. Mrs Bamsey - Holbam Celtic Wizzard JW

Love the mischief of this 4 year old dog, his antics, and he has ‘that look’ which does make me smile. Another quality dog, full of breed type. Masculine head, dark mischievous eyes, and neat ears. He is all in proportion and has a racy outline. He is deep in the ribcage and firm in his topline, with a well set on tail. Would like a fraction more rear angulation. Shown in super coat and condition.

3. Miss Lee - Ivyblue Crinkles

The cold of the arena effected the dogs, both standing and on the move today

1. Mrs & Miss Sharpe - Rosettia Keepsake

Very elegant and shapely 13 month old bitch. Today feeling the cold so not as settled. She has such a feminine head, with a long flat skull, dark inquisitive eyes, and her ears have started to settle. Clean neck of fair length, Chest is well let down, and holding a correct topline and underline. Nice bend to the hindquarters. Moving out well. Shown with good coat colour and markings.

2. Davies & Brown - Wystry Dempsey’s Tipple

Smart 13 month old dog, he is of a nice overall size and outline. Pleasing wedge shaped head, lovely dark eye, not using his ears today. Well developed through the body, with good depth. Topline showing the correct slight arch over the loin. Hindquarters in good muscle tone and with a nice width of thigh. He was unsettled on the move, which was a shame.

1. Davies & Brown - Ch Digelsa Dark Indulgence At Wystry JW

Lovely 4 year old bitch, she has good substance all through yet still retains her elegance. When stood shows to have good proportions and body lines. Her head is long and narrow, and well filled in under the eye, the eyes are a lovely almond shape, dark and mischievous. Her well placed ears give her a keen expression. Her neck has the slight arch adding to the elegance. Well developed in forechest and deep in brisket. Holding a good topline and underline both stood and on the move. Moving out with reach and drive - BOB

2. Mr Boot - Ysabelkid Calamity Jane With Harliboo

19 month old bitch, from a slightly smaller mould and not quite the substance of the winner. Liked her very elegant and feminine profile when stood. She is shapely and compact, with good body proportions. She has a long narrow skull, dark eye, and small ears. Elegant neck, good depth and her topline shows the slight arch over the loin. Nicely angulated hindquarters. Showing drive on the move - RBOB
