Ashfield (Notts) Canine Society

Ashfield (Notts) Canine Society - Premier Open Show

10th June 2023

Miss Isobel Taylor (Saffrosa)

I would like to begin by thanking the society for my invitation to judge both varieties of Chihuahua at this well organised, friendly show. Despite a low entry, I was pleased with the quality represented ; all well presented dogs in tip-top condition with strong scissor-bites. A big thankyou must go to the exhibitors who took the time out of their day to attend.

Chihuahua (Long Coat)

Puppy (1,1)

Junior (0,0)

Post Graduate (1,0)

1 - Alfred’s ‘Ismirelle Lady in Red for Teamor’

4 y/o, ultra feminine red & white bitch presenting a good outline. Beautiful round eye with rich pigment & moderate muzzle, completed with the most saucy of expressions. Front is well set with good lay of shoulder, although a little short in neck. Compact in profile with ideal off square proportions, possessing ample brisket & level topline finished with a high-set sickle tail. Adequate rear. Presented in lovely, correct coat without excessiveness. Difficult to assess movement on long grass today which ultimately cost her in the challenge. (RBOB)

Open (1,0)

1 - Alfred’s ‘Teamor Worth Fighting For’

8 ½ y/o, cream sable dog who certainly belies his age. Head is wonderfully moderate, lacking exaggeration in any way, completed with ideal expression. Straight forearm with elbows set well under chest, ample spring of rib. Neck is slightly arched into a firm topline of good length which was held throughout, along with well set sickle tail presenting a perfect plume. Excellent hindquarters with ideal bend of stifle, completed with strong, well let down hocks. Wonderfully furnished with soft, rich coat. He certainly moved today, possessing freeness and drive both fore and aft. (BOB)

Chihuahua (Smooth Coat)

Puppy (2,1)

1 - Turnbull’s ‘Myojo Red Lace Avec Prinleigh’

11 m/o, beautifully dainty red & white bitch. I have in my notes that I would very much like to take her home. Head is well domed with definite stop & deep black pigment, ears being used well at all times. Front is beginning to firm up with good lay of shoulder & straight forelegs, into well held topline & perfect sickle tail. Hindquarters set well apart with good bend of stifle & short hocks. For one so young she is so correct in profile, with ideal off-square outline & good substance. Difficult to assess on movement due to the long grass, which was the only aspect costing her higher awards. (BPIB)

Junior (1,1)

Post Graduate (1,1)

Open (3,1)

1 - Smith’s ‘Moltobello Miss Myrtle of Hulawawas’

2 y/o, blue tri-colour bitch who was handled to perfection today. Moderate head with perfectly flared ears, completed with typey expression. Balanced in both fore & hind-quarters, the front being well set under chest & the rear with sufficient bend of stifle. Topline is level with body just a touch longer than tall, sickle tail carried well at all times. I have judged this bitch as a junior & particularly liked her ‘honesty’, she is sound with nothing to hide. Enthusiasm used to best potential on the move, powering around the ring. Simply could not be denied top honours. (BOB)

2 - Stading’s ‘Stadmeyer Dashing Dexter JW’

18 m/o, blue fawn dog presented in muscular condition. Masculine in features with a well domed head presenting the most round of eyes. Excellent front with good depth to chest, firm forelegs well under body with good lay of shoulder. He presented ideal proportions, topline level with good length to neck and perfect sickle tail. Rear had sufficient bend to stifle, if not a touch long in hock. Strong bone throughout yet without coarseness. Notes say he moved like a train. Lost out in the challenge as was understandably tiring in the heat. (RBOB)
