Jack Russell Terrier Club
Many thanks to the officers and committee for inviting me to judge the Jack Russell Terrier Club. I thoroughly enjoyed my day and if all dog shows were to be like this then the sport would be in a great position. In addition to a super venue, the atmosphere, hospitality, friendliness, and camaraderie of exhibitors, together with the pleasure at others wins made for a very pleasurable day. The club deserve praise for achieving this and I hope that nothing ever changes this. I would recommend anyone who wants a fun day, and has an interest in pure bred terriers to look up the date of the next show. Now to the dogs, and as expected in a relatively new breed, type and size was mixed. Two points that I think in my opinion should be noted: the first is that the standard is clear in its skull:foreface ratio, unfortunately quite a number of exhibits are becoming long in muzzle, secondly, since I last judged I note a few JRTs with light eyes. This is incorrect and cost some dogs higher placings. Presentation and overall condition of the dogs was A1.
VD/B: 1. KAY’S JACKOPEAKS PRINCESS PEACH VW. Smooth bitch who defies her age and has personality in abundance. Nice head although wasn’t so keen on using her ears today. Nice size for a bitch. Just losing her topline now which is to be forgiven. In good hard condition which was good to see. Moved with enthusiasm. BV. MPD: Nice duo of puppies both of which need some time. 1. BROOM’S ROXWAY TOUCH OF SUN. Nice typey male who is just six months of age. Pleasing quality head of correct proportions with good strength of foreface. Eye of correct shape and colour, he just needs to use his ears more, however he is still very much learning his job. Good neck and shoulder. Good front, plenty of bone, and lovely feet. Good level topline which he held on the move. Moved well. Put down in A1 condition. Wouldn’t want him to grow much more. 2. THORNLEY’S DANCING IN THE DARK AT ROBYTHORN. Another nice young prospect. Slightly longer cast than 1. Pleasing head and expression. Enough neck into nice shoulder placement. Neat front. In good condition and coat. Just needs to strengthen up a bit behind on the move. PD: 1. WITMOND’S ALL JACKS URANO. Alone in this class but not disgraced as could top a quality class. T/W with a lovely head piece. Super head and expression. Nice dark eye. Neat ears. Pleasing front assembly. Good neck and shoulder. Lovely bone and nice tight feet. Level topline and good tail set. Not over angulated with correct turn of stifle. Moved very well in all directions. BPD and RBPIS.PGD: 1. KAY’S BLAZINGJACKS BEST MATE WITH JACKOPEAKS. T/W. Nice young dog. Nice head and expression. Good neck and shoulder. Good front. Correct topline and good hindquarters. Unfortunately, his tail is not his fortune. In hard condition. Well handled and moved well. 2. JONES’S ROTCHILD RUSSTYLES DU VALLON DE L’ALBA AT LASERNA. Smaller and slightly more feminine than the first placed dog, but is of good overall proportions and has a pleasing head. Nice neck and shoulder. Level topline although a fraction longer in loin than 1. Moved very well. 3. CLAYTON’S PANTYCELYN HIGHLAND KING AT NORTHDRUM. LD: 1. CORBETT & ROSELL’S SOLETRADER ON YOUR MARKS. This dog I have judged before and was RBD under me in a large quality entry at National Terrier last year. He is a very nice example of a JRT who has been unlucky not to annexe top honours more often. T/W who whilst not a small dog is a quality specimen throughout. I loved him for his overall shape and balance together with substance without coarseness. He has a quality head of required proportions and a very typical expression. Best of neck and shoulder. Very typical front assembly. Super bone and feet. Level topline and good tail set. More full of himself than last time I had him. Moved with drive and sound in all directions. Unlucky to meet the Open Winner is such good form. RBD. 2. THORNLEY’S FAST LOVE WITH LOCHEIL. T/W Nice overall picture and correct proportions. Pleasing head. Would prefer a little more neck and lay back of shoulder. Good topline. Well off for bone. Moved ok. Just preferred the overall type and balance of 1. OD: Interesting class to judge with three upstanding dogs of differing type. 1. AVERIS & BARKER’S JAP CH MONAMOUR HOT DANCER AT SAREDON (IMP JPN). I have seen this dog in variety competition on several occasions recently and was pleased to finally get my hands on him. Interestingly where I thought I faulted him from ringside he is indeed very correct on handling. This male is an upstanding T/W who scores in his overall balance. He has a very typical head of ideal proportions. Keen dark eye. Strength of muzzle which is not obscured by excess whisker. Good length of neck into well placed shoulders. Level topline. Correct front. Good spring of rib but easily spannable. Lovely hindquarters. In best of hard jackets. In hard condition which showed on the move with good drive from the rear. A pleasure to award him BD and BIS over a quality bitch. Congratulations. 2. CONNOLLY’s AUST. CH. KRISBOS NOTHING BUT TROUBLE AT HUNTLY. Different in type to 1. Another with a very pleasing head and expression. Good neck and shoulder. Correct front, good bone and nice overall proportions. Well-muscled hind quarters. Moved well in both directions. To be slightly critical I would like a higher tail set to complete the picture. 3 WITMOND’S TILTSER MANHATTON. MPB: 1. JONES’S LASERNA RUMOUR HAS IT. Pleasing young bitch. Feminine throughout. Quality head although not so confident in using her ears today, but when she did the size and set provided her with the desired expression. Nice proportions. Good neck and shoulder. Pleasing front. Well off for bone. She just needs to body up and fill out. Has time on her side. Moved out well. 2. BROOM’S ROXWAY SUN DANCE. Another nice bitch and lots to like here. Like her litter brother she has a pleasing head and expression and lovely keen dark eye. This bitch excels in her super front assembly. Correct topline and tail set. As one would expect from this seasoned exhibitor put down in A1 condition, although she is coming ready for a jacket change. Moved well just needs to strengthen a bit behind. PB: This was a superb class of young bitches and quality was abundant. This can only bode well for the future. 1. SGURA SALVATORE’S TOTGREE'S HANNABELL T/W. This bitch is quite special, and I loved her from the moment I saw her on my initial inspection. She appeals for her overall type and proportions. On further inspection, she has a beautiful head which is of correct skull to muzzle ratio, and skull of correct width. This is a feminine head, but this does not lead in any way to weakness. Neat well placed ears and keen dark eye. Enough neck into well placed shoulders and an excellent front assembly. Enough bone for a bitch and neat feet. Level topline. Ok hindquarters, which are not over angulated. Moved effortlessly and with good drive from behind. With a bit more maturity and with her final furnishings to come, in my opinion this bitch will do very well. RBB and BPIS. 2 JENKIN’S CAMERON BLAZINGJACKS. Another smart quality youngster. Many of the attributes of 1 apply. Super overall outline and good for size. Very pleasing head and expression, just not quite the breath of back skull as the first placed bitch, but still has time on her side, another that with more maturity will figure high in placings in the future. Very sound on the move. 3. ROMANI’S CHAERYEONG DI EOLO HOUSE. JB: 1. TATE & NAGRECHA’S JAEVA PAGE TURNER CHANDLIMORE. Very nice young bitch who is a nice size and of the desired overall proportions. Quality head and nice dark keen eye. Good strength of muzzle. Excellent neck and shoulder. Correct front assembly. Level topline and importantly good tail set with plenty behind. In super hard condition, which was lacking in some exhibits, she is clearly exercised well. Moved well, true in front and with drive from behind. Considered for RBB. 2. WITMOND’S ALL JACKS TO TILTSER WITH LOVE. Another nice bitch who is well matured for her age, and another who meets the standard for correct head and body proportions. Would however prefer a darker eye to complete the expression. Good neck and shoulder. Well ribbed up. Level topline but could do with a fraction more behind the tail. Moved well with drive. In A1 order. 3. EVAN’S KULAWAND WICKED WHISPER AT JACKPACK. PGB: 1. GRIME’S TWINAN WILD CHILD AT ANSONA. Quality bitch. Correct head piece with super expression. Lovely ear size and carriage. Had the best front in this class and excellent bone and feet. Good topline. Correct hind angulation. Moved well. 2. BURGOYNE’S JAEVA HOT GOSSIP AT HUGACHI. Different in type to 1. Another who appealed for her overall balance and proportions. Nice expression although would prefer a fraction broader across the skull. Correct front, bone and feet. Moved well in both directions. 3 CLAYTON’S NORTHDRUM HAPPY FEET. LB: Some nice bitches in this class to judge. 1. DEEGAN’S LOVELY ORANGE NEVER SAY NEVER. Pleasing bitch who scores for her overall type. She has a lovely head of correct skull to foreface proportions, small dark neat eye and correct sized ears giving her the desired expression. Strong neck and correct front assembly. Correct bone and good feet. Correct body proportions and level topline. Well-muscled hind quarters. Correct turn of stifle. At first wasn’t sure of the flooring but given a second chance she moved around the ring with reach and great drive never losing her topline. I thought her quite lovely. Well put down. BB and pushed the BD hard. 2. NAGRECHA’S LOVELY ORANGE KARAT GOLD AT CHANDLIMORE. Another quality bitch who was not belittled by standing second. Many of the attributes of 1 are also seen in this bitch. Lovely overall shape and size. Well sprung ribs .Correct proportions throughout. Another in super hard nick and good jacket. I just preferred the overall expression on 1. 3. BRITTON & MILES’S LOCHEIL LOVE OF MY LIFE. OB:1. JONES’S PERFECT LOVE DI SUTRI AT LASERNA IMP ITA My notes say what a beautiful head and expression. This bitch has a super quality head piece with ideal proportions, together with a keen dark eye and well-placed ears of correct size. Good neck into well placed shoulders. Correct front assembly. Well off for bone. Correct topline and tail set. Moved well just did not quite have the enthusiasm required at the end of a long day. 2. SGURA SALVATORE’S IT CH TOTGREE'S KAILìA Another smart bitch and full of quality. Super typey with a feminine head which was in no way weak. Nice overall proportions. Moved well. Just a little wide in front which cost her higher honours. 3. MCCLUSKEY & YOUNG’S O'MARE MIO DELLE SYRENUSE OF CHADBROOK (IMP ITA) NAF.
