Miss H A Upton (Roydack)

I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge at their 75th Anniversary Premier Open Show, there was a fantastic Cornish Welcome and the atmosphere throughout the day was friendly and warm. Thankfully the rain stayed away and we were able to judge outside all day.

I’d also like to thank my steward for the day, who kept the ring running smoothly throughout the day, without these volunteers these shows would not exist.

Best in Show - Irish Setter - Henderson & Szwajkowski - GRENADA LOFTY CZERWONY (IMP POL) I liked this bitch for her blanace and for her racey appearance, presented in beautiful coat and condition, nothing over exagerated in her, pretty head with lovely soft expression, she and her handler were as one and owned the ring.

Reserve Best in Show - GSP - Mcllwaine WINTERWELL STEPPIN STONES TO BENOVEOR, A bitch I have come across before and oh what a difference, she is very typey for the breed and she is now well balanced, with plenty of bone and muscle. Graduate (1,0)

1 Hughes, ABACOT INTO THE UNKNOWN JW

5yr old dog, Preferred the balance and substance of this dog. Masculine head of correct proportions, soft but alert expression and eye colour in keeping with coat. Nice shoulder placement, with correct depth and spring of rib for his size. Well coated and good covering of muscle. This male showed his correct front and rear angulation on the move where he covered the ground easily, with reach drive and enthusiasm.

2 Vaughan, ROSETTIA RED DEVIL OF VALSANNRA

Of finer type to 1 however still balanced. Nice head with soft expression, level topline, however lacking slightly in the muscle around the loin and hindquarters. Moved out well across the ring holding topline throughout.

Limit (3,0)

1 Vaughan, KATIMBA MALVASIA OF VALSANNRA

5 year old Bitch, well balanced, pretty head with correct eye shape and colour for coat, she had a lovely expression which was soft and gentle. She stood at the correct size, with a well made front and rear, carrying the right amount of weight and muscle for her frame. Nice depth to her chest and well ribbed up. Covered the ground well, but lacking in enthusiasm.

2 Hughes, EUSANIT GEM STONE AT ABACOT

1 Hipkiss, AFONBACK FIRST SIGN O’SPRING AT DELTANDAMBA JW

2 year old bitch, the most balanced out of all present today, not as mature as others but everything in the right place and she still has time to mature. Beautiful head of correct proportions, she had the alert and soft expression that I would expect of the breed. Forelegs straight, elbows close, well laid shoulders, correct depth and width of chest for her frame. Well coated, not over done in anyway, she moved round the ring with drive and enthusiasm. Pleased to award her BOB.

2 Ward, MELANITTA PALMATA JW

Mature male, with masculine head, well balanced and coated, standing on good front and rear angles. Unfortunately he was lacking the enthusiasm today, which let him down. Well balanced, well coated, I thought on first glance he would be my winner, however his movement was lacking the reach, drive and bouncienss I would expect of this breed. RBOB.

Italian Spinone

Graduate (2,0)

1, Mortimer, SCODINZOLARE PHOTOULLA

Pretty headed bitch with alert but gentle expression, correct head proportions and ears. Strong powerful neck, well laid back shoulders, would like a little more work in her front and little longer in body than I would prefer, however she has the broad croup and slopes off correctly, she has good rear angulation, but needs to muscle up. Moved well.

2, Luff, LYNDYCK HOT TO TROT

Very similar comments apply to 1, however she is shorter in body, but hasn’t the rear angualtion of 1. Very pretty bitch, with a lovely expression, another one that needs to tighten in front. Moved ok, but didnt have the drive of 1.

Limit (4,1)

1, Mortimer, SCODINZOLARE PHILOMEN

BOB

2, Luff, BEAU

2yr old male, lacking the coat today, masculine head with a great expression, I could almost tell you what he was thinking. This dog had ring presence, he was was stronger in his rear than his fore but was of correct size and length for the breed. Moved with the attitude of look at me, however just lacking the drive and purpose of 1.

Open (3,1)

1, Smith, SOSTELI SAXON

Weimaraner

Graduate (3,1)

1, Harrington, SILBERLISS SNEAK PREVIEW OF SILVERJADE

A substantial dog whom i’d prefer a little less of. Masculine head with a nice expression, slightly broader over the skull than i’d prefer. Straight forelegs standing on good feet, Well boned and muscled thorughout, plenty of lung room in well sprung ribs, stong hindquaters which he used on the move, covering the ground with reach and drive.

Open (3,1)

1, Burgess, GUNALT VETTEL TO HANTZBURG

Straight front with good amount of bone, good amount of forechest, spring of rib and depth from withers to brisket, on the stand the handler tends to stand him to narrow at the rear but when stood correctly he has good angulation with good bend of stifle. Moved really well covering the ground with ease and holding his topline and tail set. BOB and Best in Show 3.

2, Burgess, GUNALT ROCK OUT WITH HANTZBURG ShCM RL1 P-BEG. Ex VW

10 ½ year old Male who you wouldn’t think was any older than 1 by the way he moved round the ring. Not as balanced as 1 and preferred the head of 1. Masculine head would prefer a little less length in foreface, long neck into well placed shoulders, well ribbed up, good length to height ratio, handler tends to over stretch him which then loses the lovely bend of stifle that he does have. Moved so well for age and gave his younger kennel mate a run for his money. RBOB. BVIB.
