THE BRIARD ASSOCIATION

OPEN SHOW 31ST AUGUST 2023

‘THANK YOU’ TO THE SECRETARY, OFFICERS AND COMMITTEE OF THE BRIARD ASSOCIATION FOR THE INVITATION TO JUDGE THEIR OPEN SHOW IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM CANINE ASSOCIATION CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW.

I ENJOYED MY JUDGING OF THIS THOUGHT-PROVOKING, ATTRACTIVE BREED.

IT WAS WELL WORTH THE LONG WAIT TO GET INTO THE RING FOLLOWING OTHER BREEDS.

Junior Dog (1)

1st Humphreys’ FOSTEBRIE CHEVALIER NOIR a 17-month-old all black male who has a quality appearance with a good length rugged coat. Attractive head of pleasing shape and proportions. Good length neck into moderately angled shoulders. Pleasing front and fill-in across the chest. Sturdy in body and nicely angled hindquarters. For me tended to appear longish in proportion to height and a bit relaxed in topline all which can be remedied with maturity. Moved with an easy, free action. My Reserve Best Dog.

Post Graduate Dog (2)

1st Humphreys’ FOSTEBRIE CHEVALIER NOIR as previous comments.

2nd Parry’s ZWEET CHILLI SONG MORAVIA CAMPANELLA STORMYMOON (IMP CZE) a well coated 23-month-old full-bodied fawn male. Pleasing head set on good length strong neck and having a sturdy body and moderate hindquarters. Preferred front of 1st. Free moving but tended to be loose in front.

Open Dog (4/2)

1st Foster’s FOSTEBRIE JUST UNIQUE JW LUX JUN CH a shapely 2-year-old fawn, well-coated, well presented, mature looking male who has a very pleasing head both in proportional size and shape. He is well constructed in front with a pleasing fore-chest. He has satisfying spring of rib and is ribbed well back with a firm level top-line leading to slightly sloping croup and moderately angled hindquarters. Free and easy on the move and the better mover of this class. My Best Dog and Reserve Best In Show.                                                                       2nd Snellings’ BEAUGENCY BEARLY BOUZY an upstanding, robust bodied, mature 2¾-year-old fawn male who is broad across the chest, pleasing front and was presented in breed typical coat. Very pleasing head set on a strong neck. Well-proportioned body length to height with more than enough body substance. Moderate stable hindquarters. Would prefer a less heavy, free action in movement.

Minor Puppy Bitch (2/1)

1st Fletcher, Fletcher, Rual, Keogh and Rual’s GILCORU LAVIN O’BRIE WITH ARROWFLEC a super quality 6-month-old fawn who has all the essentials desirable in a promising youngster. Attractive head set on a good length, well-proportioned neck. Well-made all through, and even at her young age she is well balanced and of satisfying proportions. She moved in typical puppy fashion and had to give way to maturity when challenging for Best Puppy. One who has a promising, bright future. One I would take home.

Puppy Bitch (1)

1st Ryan’s TANT MYSTIQUE DE LA CHAUME B DU BOIS DIEU TO BADGERHURST (IMP FRA) a well grown 11-month-old all black young bitch. She stands well showing herself to advantage. She is well boned and has the right amount of body development. Lovely head, good length neck and well-proportioned body. Moderate angulation front and rear. Needs to strengthen in hindquarters. Free and steady on the move. Best Puppy.

Junior Bitch (3)

1st Snellings’ ZHAMANEN BEZIQUE FOR BEAUGENCY (IMP FIN) a very attractive, shapely 15-month-old who has a striking side profile which is well proportioned and shows off her balance of angulations front and rear. She has a particularly attractive breed typical head of pleasing size, proportion and shape. True in front, well made in body and hindquarters, firm level top-line and presents an all-together satisfying breed typical picture. Moved the better of the class with a steady, easy action.                                                                           2nd Wescott-Smith & Smith’s VIVIENNE DE L’ARENE NOIRE AT ROZIMBA (IMP BEL) a 14-month-old all black bitch who has very satisfying overall shape. She has a head of pleasing shape and proportions. Well laid shoulders, true enough in front but would prefer more obvious fore-chest, pleasing top line and body, well-coated with pleasing texture. Stands over the ground presenting a balanced profile with desirable proportions. Could be stronger in hindquarters especially when moving.

3rd Foster’s FOSTEBRIE SPECIAL EDITION

Special Yearling Bitch (3/2)

1st Hartwell’s CHAVELL BONJOUR MAISIE JW a super quality breed typical, honest fawn 21-month-old bitch. She is of pleasing conformation all through having obvious fore-chest. She stands over the ground presenting a well-proportioned outline; true well boned front and presents a well-balanced side profile. Lovely, well-proportioned and breed typical shaped head, good length of neck and sturdy body with a firm top line leading to strong moderately angulated hindquarters. Moved freely with an easy, steady action.                                                                                                2nd Foster’s FOSTEBRIE SPECIAL EDITION a 17-month-old attractive all black young bitch of balance in angulations front and rear but would look the better proportioned with just a bit more length on the leg. She has pleasing conformation in front, body and hindquarters although tended to lose her top-line on occasions.  Free moving but needing to be more controlled in front.

Post Graduate Bitch (2/1)

1st Foreman’s STORMFIELD AYSA AT MARAZZO a rugged looking 2-year-old fawn bitch who is of good size. Attractive head true in front but needing to strengthen and tighten in body and hindquarters. Tended to be loose in elbow and lacked enthusiasm on the move.

Limit Bitch (3/1)

1st Ledsham’s TOUSLEFELL I HAVE A DREAM a 4-year-old imposing all black mature bitch who is well-boned and well-bodied and of pleasing proportions. True front, pleasing fore-chest although would prefer tighter elbows. She has good spring of rib and pleasing body cover with a firm level top-line. Moderate angle of hindquarters needing to tighten. Free and eager mover needing to be more controlled in front.

Open Bitch (5/3)

A super quality class to finish my day’s judging:

1st Snelling’s CH BEAGENCY BELLINI an impressive 3½-year-old fawn bitch who is pleasing on the eye both standing and on the move. She has a very attractive head set on a strong good length neck and leading to a body of notable conformation being of ideal proportions and balance. Firm in topline. She is a model example of the breed. Easy and sound, purposeful movement. My Best Bitch and Best of Breed/Best In Show.                                                                                                   2nd Foster’s CH/NL/INT CH FOSTEBRIE PRECIOUS HOPE (AI) JW ShCM CJW 18WW18 Benelux18 an imposing mature well-coated 6½-year-old quality bitch. Impressive head both in shape and proportion; head set well onto a good length strong neck. Satisfying in overall construction; well boned in front with desirable fore-chest, width, firm in body having spring and depth. Would prefer just a little more length of leg to achieve the overall ideal proportions Moved with an easy, smooth action which I preferred to 3rd.  My Reserve Best Bitch.  3rd Kellet & Burrow’s FOSTEBRIE EXOTIQUE NOIR OF KELLBRY JW ShCM
