Open Show 27th December 2023
Thank you to the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge this show, I know how much work is involved in putting on a show. To the exhibitors at the show, I thank you for your sportsmanship. To the person on Facebook who asked whether a dog was not placed because it was handled by a child the answer is “no”, it was not placed as I preferred other dogs on the day, the handler did not form part of my decision.

How unlucky to meet the winner and runner up as in other company could and should win a Group. There was never a doubt that this was a bitch, ultra feminine with good head and lovely dark eyes. Lovely body and quarters, level topline which she kept on the move. In great condition.
Group 4 Rogers Pekingese Ralshams Lady Ma Donna
Much to like about this bitch, in good coat and condition and moved well with the typical roll to claim her place.

Junior Handling Association
As is often the case the number of handlers is not high but the quality was good and thus I was splitting hairs. Whilst handling is an art on its own it is important to remember that you are showing a dog to a judge so remember the basic rules, do not come between the judge and you dog and be aware of the position of the judge. Shadowing is important but do not upset the dog when doing this. It is great to see young people showing dogs, they are the future, and to see adults enjoying handling classes too.
Well done to everyone.
6-11 years
1st Madeline Pinder
A very competent young handler who showed her dog, a Papillon, off well. Was aware of where the judge was and executed patters well but retained a sympathetic relationship with her dog. A worthy winner.
2nd Racheal Rutherford
This young lady was handling a Pug and again was competent in what she did, just be aware of shadowing.
12-16 years
Another strong class
1st Grace Rutherford
Showed her Puli well, shadowed well, executed patterns correctly and moved her dog at exactly the right pace.
2nd Melissa Graham-Weall
Another competent handler being very aware of her dog, good patterns and tablework. Just splitting hairs with the overall picture not quite as good as one.
17-25 years
1st Leah Scales
A natural handler at one with her dog, lovely accurate patterns and great pace.
2nd Danielle Graham Weall
Well handled, was aware of her dog at all times, good tablework and moved her dog well.
26-39 years
1st Elizabeth Gough
Precise patterns and shadowing executed brilliantly won this handler the class, well done.
2nd Cally Saunders
Well handled with a great relationship with her dog. This was a hard class to judge.
40-59 years
1st Marie England
Very well handled, at one with her Dalmatian making the most of the ring. Moved at the correct pace, well executed patterns.
2nd Jennifer Graham-Weall
As I was splitting hairs again just missed a moved foot. Other than this an excellent handler with accurate patterns and judge aware.
60 years and over
1st Janet Rice
Sympathetic handing of her Tibetan Spaniel, good tablework and accurate patterns, good shadowing.
2nd Molly Apperley
Splitting hairs again and patterns could have just been a bit more accurate, that said well handled.
