Welsh Corgi Club Of Cambria

Thank you to the officers and committee for inviting me to judge this breed in it’s home country at Builth Wells, Wales. I felt it was a great honour to be asked to judge a club Open show. I enjoyed the experience, being very pleased with the quantity and quality present. Thank you to my many stewards for assisting me.

WELSH CORGI (CARDIGAN)

PUPPY DOG (1)

1. Hutchings’ Arcanedale Hiraeth NAF HUN IMP. A very promising attractive 6-month-old brindle baby dog puppy of nice size. Well balanced and nicely boned for age. Foxy head shape and appearance, with correct skull. Well placed rather large ears of correct size. Good body with forearms already slightly bowed to mould round his chest. Strong, angulated hind quarters. Moved well. Hard coat coming nicely.

JUNIOR DOG (1)

1. Taylor’s Tamlin Millennium Falcon. A handsome, well grown dog, of attractive brindle colour. Masculine head of correct shape and proportions. Wide and flat skull, eyebrow ridge and moderate stop. Ears of good size and shape. Muscular, well-developed neck. Well bodied and boned, of correct length. Strong, well angulated hindquarters. Moved well.

LIMIT DOG (4)

1. Burgoyne & Goddard’s Pemcader Diamond Geezer. A very attractive, quality blue merle dog. Super well-proportioned head, with wide flat skull, moderate stop and correct ears, well set. Nice eyes, giving a kindly, watchful expression. Forearms slightly bowed to mould round his chest. Well bodied with super bone and feet. Muscled hindquarters. Everything flowed when running my hands over him. Moved very well to win the class.

2. Taylor’s Elessar Wolf Moon at Tamlin. A very striking dog with his rich red colouring. An elegant outline and clearly defined waist. Masculine head, with ears set wide apart. Masculine, well developed neck. Good body with well sprung ribs and level topline. Strong, well-muscled hindquarters, with good bend of stifle. Moved very well. Large feet.

3. Cooper’s Haveback Beech Haven.

VETERAN DOG (7)

1. Taylor’s Handskes Just a Gigolo at Tamlin (Imp Fin). I thought this old chap was lovely and could not be ignored for top awards. Just how I thought a Cardigan Welsh Corgi should look. He is now eight and a half, I wonder what he was like in his youth and why he is not a champion. A very striking brindle colour, with body of correct length and substance. Super, well-proportioned foxy head, with wide, flat skull and moderate stop. Correct ears and eyes. Strong, muscular neck fitting into well sloping shoulders. Good front legs with forearms slightly bowed to mould round his chest. Round, large feet. Well made body, level topline and clearly defined waist. Powerful, strong hindquarters, creating good angulation. Best mover of the day for a dog of this age. Forelegs reaching out and thrust from the rear. Finished with a good tail carriage.

2. Siviter’s Rubegud Takin the Mick ShCM. Another lovely dog of nearly 10 years old. Correct length and size, producing a well-balanced outline. Super, correctly proportioned foxy head. Wide and flat skull, nice sized ears carried well. Super front, with forearms bowed to mould round the chest. Which was moderately broad with prominent breastbone. Large, round feet. Good body, deep brisket, clearly defined waist and level topline. Nicely muscled hindquarters for age. Moved very well.

3. Piears’ Tyci Daioni.

4. Appleley’s Wildcard Ace at Nanaimo Nanaimo (ATC AT03195301)

5. James’ Bwthyn All Rights Reserved.

PUPPY BITCH (3)

Three lovely puppy bitches.

1. Taylor’s Twinan Movin on Up at Tamlin NAF. A very attractive 6-month-old brindle baby bitch, that I liked very much. Well-proportioned head, with ears almost there. Nice eyes giving a kind, watchful expression. Good neck. I loved her front, with everything developing well. Nicely bodied and boned for one so young. Clearly defined waist. Hindquarters OK. Moved well on round large feet.

2. Evans’ Lidoffad Celtic Dream. Another nice puppy bitch. Well-proportioned, good head with large ears and expressive eyes. Correct front assembly with forearms slightly bowed to mould round her chest. Hindquarters developing well with good turn of stifle. Moved well.

3. Fitzpatrick-Graham’s Ancksunamun Hallows Eve.

JUNIOR BITCH (3)

1. Smith’s Ceranda Gower Diamond. Caught my eye when entering the ring. Pushed hard for best bitch. A very good example of a young bitch and one to watch when fully mature. Nicely made, showing good outline and balance. Good head, with super large ears, well placed. Good length of neck fitting into well sloping shoulders. Correct front with forearms slightly bowed to mould round the chest. Sufficient bone. Round, large, tight feet. Nicely bodied with level topline. Hindquarters good with well angulated stifles. Moved very well, reaching in front and drive from behind.

2. Taylor’s Tamlin Rogue Shadow. A good type of bitch. She was balanced, well bodied and boned. Correct round, tight feet. She was not cooperating with her handler and pulling when moving, making her movement hard to assess.

3. Field’s Cruglwyd Cristyne.

NOVICE BITCH (1)

1. Field’s Cruglwyd Cristyne. I was advised this was the handler’s first show, but I see the bitch has attended at least one other show. She is 16 months old of an attractive merle colour, with the unusual eye colouring. She was a bit nervous on the table and quite hard to assess. She got a bit better as time went on.

GRADUATE BITCH (1)

1. Appleley’s Nracigoc Charlotte Jayne (ATC AW00565601). I was advised this one was a rescue, explaining why at nearly 5 years old she is in Graduate Bitch. She had a pretty, feminine head. Her front assembly was correct with forearms slightly bowed to mould round her chest. She had a good body shape, topline and muscled hindquarters. But could have a shade more bone and a better coat. She was a little nervous. It will be interesting to see if she improves with time.

POST GRADUATE (4)

1. Langford’s Caprian Adrianna JW. A good dark brindle bitch of a nice type, with correct outline and balance. She has a feminine head with nice eyes, giving a kind, watchful expression. Enough neck flowing into good shoulder placement and reasonable front. Excellent body, level topline, with well sprung ribs and good angulation. Moved very well with reach and drive, with a well carried tail. Nice shiny coat.

2. Appleley’s Nracigoc Charlotte Jayne (ATC AW00565601). See above.

3. Evans’ Gowerston Golygus Yn Ceredigion.

LIMIT BITCH (5)

1. Siviter’s Faywaidd Spice. Nearly 5 years old, fully matured and beautiful. Full of quality and what I consider a Cardigan Corgi should look like. Lovely type with super outline. Well-proportioned foxy head. Wide, flat skull and moderate stop. Well-shaped and carried ears. Medium sized eyes giving kindly, watchful expression. Good reach of neck fitting into well sloping shoulders. Elbows close to sides. Strong boned. Body well clear of the ground. Forearms slightly bowed to mould round her chest. Broad chest with prominent breastbone. Fairly long body with clearly defined waist. Moved extremely well, with reach from the front and thrusting action from behind. In super coat of hard texture, weatherproof with good undercoat.

2. Taylor’s Wildcard Lilibet at Tamlin. A 2-year-old bitch of a lovely merle colour. A nice type and shape who still has time to mature. She has the most super head. Correct skull, with large ears well placed. Excellent shape of eyes with kindly watchful expression. Nice length of neck. Well laid shoulders. Enough fore chest. Super body. Well ribbed with level topline. Good hind angulation. Nice round tight feet. Moved very well.

3. James’ Bwthyn Hopes and Dreams.

4. Evans’ Lidoffad Isabella Flower.

5. Burgoyne & Goddard’s Waterdeep Talia Winter.

OPEN BITCH (2)

1. Langford’s Caprian the Vixen JW. Attractive type of brindle bitch. Correct, typical head with broad, flat skull, large well-set ears. I was very aware of the watchful expression. Good neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Nicely boned with correct feet. Level topline and clearly defined waist. Everything flowed so nicely. Moved well.

2. Froggatt’s Wildcard Queen of Clubs for Gerefa. Another nice dark brindle bitch, that initially caught my eye. She has a very good pleasing head, wide flat skull and large well-placed ears. Another with that watchful expression. Good length of neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Well sprung ribs. Strong, well angulated hindquarters, which she used to her advantage. Appeared rather bored not putting the most into her performance.

VETERAN BITCH (6)

1. Piers’ Tyci Brenhines Briallen ShCM. A really lovely 11-year-old blue merle bitch, who I would have liked to have taken home. Elegant, beautiful and excellent for her age. Lovely pleasing head with correct skull, ears and eyes. Good neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Correct front assembly. Nice body with super ribbing and clearly defined waist. Excellent mover for her age, striding out with enthusiasm. Ample bone and good feet.

2. Froggatt’s Gerefa Bella Starr. This bitch has some very good breed points and must have been lovely in her younger day. Is 11 years old and a credit to her owner. Presented in super hard condition. She has a very good strong feminine head with excellent ears. A medium neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Her forearms were slightly bowed to mould round her chest. Good long body with well sprung ribs. Clearly defined waist and level topline. Moved well for her age.
