I would like to thank the society for the invite to judge at this show and the exhibitors for supporting me. I was very impressed of the quality of the hounds put through by other judges which made it an enjoyable but challenging experience, from the initial line up I shortlisted 8 hounds, all were excellent representations of their breed.

After writing my critique, it seems that girls really do rule the world as I didn’t realise that my top 4 group winners were all bitches. Top spot in the Hound Group went to the beautiful black and tan Basenji bitch Nash Ch Tokaji Moon Over Miami With Mutoko JW, this showgirl made sure she caught my attention and didn’t let go, Hound Group 2 went to the young brindle Whippet Johnston and Wilson Danluke Dont I Know it and she certainly did, your hands just flow when you go over her and she moved with that required freedom of movement, Group 3 went to the Greyhound Ahrens & Primeravera Ch, Int Ch, Es Ch Sobers Geraldine JUN AL CH, this upstanding red Greyhound bitch has a beautiful head with small rose shaped ears, long neck into a well laid shoulder, good forechest and angulation front and rear, deep chest, capacious body, balanced all through with the required curves and moving with a low reaching free stride, Group 4 went to the Norwegian Elkhound Callow & Davis Whittimere Alright Bab JW, I have judged this bitch as a puppy and she has certainly kept to her promise, presented a lovely shape on the stack, good head with dark oval eye, small ears set on high with vertical outer edge, balanced angulation front and rear, tail set on high, moved that effortless stride.

Puppy Group 1 went to the Basset Griffon Vendeen (Petit) Roberston Soletrader Happy As Larry, this well balanced promising young male took the top spot of 4 really promising puppies, He has that happy extrovert temperament required for a Petit, he is balanced all through, with a lovely head and dark eye, good length of neck into a well laid shoulder, balanced angulation front and rear with the correct body proportions, level topline with tail set on high, he is a steady mover showing great reach and drive. Pleased to see him go on to win RBPIS. Puppy Group 2 went to a Rhodesian Ridgeback bitch who caught my eye and gave the Petit a run for his money, Webster Kazembe Orla ‘Bout Me, this feminine bitch head of fair length with skull flat and stop well defined, round eyes, high set ears, strong neck into shoulder, balanced moderate angulation front and rear, deep chest, strong loin, well defined ridge, and good turn of stifle, she moved with a straight forward and free action. Puppy Group 3 went to feminine self-mask cream Afghan Hound bitch Scott Altside Hot Shot at Arushkhan, still lots to come from this young bitch but she has all the promising elements required, beautiful head under her monkey fluff into a good length of neck, balanced angulation front and rear, deep chest, level topline into good fall away with low set ringed tail, moved well showing reach and drive, Completing this line up was Puppy Group 4 went to the Basset Fauve De Bretagne Freudenreich Rangali Shimmy Jimmy, who presented a lovely shape on the stack and moved with the quick gait, striding out well.

Freudenreich Rangali Shimmy Jimmy, lovely puppy male, good head with oval dark eye, ears set on level with the eye, scissor bite, moderately short neck into shoulder, forelegs straight, prominent sternum, deep chest, level topline, balanced angulation front and rear, stifles well bent, tight feet, high set tail, rough coat, displayed the quick gait on the move striding out. He stood alone in the breed but that certainly doesn’t mean anything as I shortlisted him within the group and awarded him Puppy Group 4. BOB and BPIB.

Buchanan & Maclaren Tarmachan Tipsy Laird, I judged this boy as a puppy and my opinion has not changed, he has a beautiful head with domed skull and oval eye, low set ears, scissor bite, long neck into well laid shoulder, good forechest and depth, forelegs straight, balanced angulation front and rear, pasterns slightly sloping, level topline, tail set on high and carried correctly, moved with free action covering the ground. Unfortunately, there was a Dachshund caged by the side of the ring which kept going for the dogs as they moved around it, I asked the exhibitor to remove the dog from the side of the ring but unfortunately it had already affected a couple of exhibits which is completely unfair.

Makey Gairside Special Edition, male of good size and proportions, masculine head with large oval eye, stop clearly defined, good length of neck into well laid shoulder, elbows close to body, forelegs straight, good forechest, level topline, good body proportions, balanced angulation, moderate bend of stifle, high set tail, moved with reach and drive.

2. Buchanan & Maclaren Ch Tarmachan Miss Impatiens, lovely feminine bitch, good head but would prefer a darker eye, low set ears, good length of neck into well laid shoulder, good forechest, balanced angulations front and rear, back of good length and level topline, tail set on high, free on the move using her angulation to the best advantage.

2. Casentieri The Impossible Girl of Alchez, Basenji, black and tan bitch, nice head and dark eye, small pointed and erect ears, scissor bite, neck of good length, balanced angulation front and rear, would prefer more depth to chest but will hopefully come with age, short level back, high set curled tail, moved well.

Nash Ch Tokaji Moon Over Miami With Mutoko JW,Basenji, a beautiful black and tan bitch who commands your attention, beautiful head, well chiselled with slight stop, correct amount of wrinkles to hear head, dark almond eye, scissor bite, small pointed erect ears, long neck into well laid shoulder, elbows tucked in against brisket, forelegs straight, correct body proportions, short level back, hocks well let down, small and compact feet, high set tail with curve of buttock extending beyond the root of the tail, legs carried forward on the move demonstrating a long swinging stride. Casentieri Zvezdny Alliance Genie In a Bottle (imp UKR), Basenji, brindle bitch, Correct eye and head proportions, small pointed and erect ears, good length of neck into well laid shoulder, forelegs straight with fine bone, compact level topline, high set curled tail, showing long and tireless strides on the move.
