North Of England Bearded Collie Club

I would like to thank the committee at NEBCC for the opportunity to judge at their Open show and for their hospitality and help on the day including my stewards who ran the ring seamlessly for me. We had a ring of good size but not the most even ground and being the last day of the show some of the smells distracted the dogs particularly, and prevented them giving their best on the move. Later in the day some dogs were also bothered by the motorbikes on the adjacent road but I’m glad to say all managed to overcome this and move although it did prevent some giving their best.

Minor Puppy Dog

1. Mrs D. Glasspool, Cool Heart’s Finest Selection for Gildenmede (Imp Swe). Striking slate and white puppy with lovely broad flat head and excellent pigmentation. Good bone. Balanced angulation fore and rear with excellent layback of shoulder and return of upper arm enabling him to move freely around the ring. BPD, BPIS.

2. Ms. K. Axford, Bramblemead Bollinger Boy. Very raw 6-month-old puppy built along smaller lines than 1. Nice proportions overall and sympathetically handled to get the best out of him. Correct head proportions and good pigment. Balanced angulation fore and rear and nice free movement around the ring.

2. Mr. and Mrs. B. and K. Handley, Invercoyle Caperdonich at Barkenbear VW. Another beautifully presented and handled boy. Lovely head proportions and eye colour toning with coat. Good angulation and moved well around the ring, not quite the length of rib of 1.

3. Mrs. and Mr. J. & S. Leckenby, Kiltondale Amarillo Star. A lovely masculine boy with broad flat head and excellent pigment. Better length of rib than 2 but unfortunately was not co operating with his handler on the move so did not show himself to best advantage.

Junior Dog

1. Mrs L. Peirson, CH Farmarens Like a Circus for Kiltondale JW (Imp Swe) An impressively mature boy with well-developed coat for his tender age. Broad flat skull with excellent pigment. Lovely proportions but wouldn’t want him any bigger. Excellent lay of shoulder and return of upper arm balanced by his rear angulation. Moved around the ring every time with reach and drive for his handler. RBD.

2. Miss S. Butcher, Sylvabrae Newton’s Law. Unlucky to come up against 1 today as this is a nice dog but at the unfortunate age of changing his coat. Blue boy with eyes toning with coat and excellent head proportions. Good angulation fore and rear and good length of rib and short loin. Excellent movement.

Yearling Dog

1. Miss S. Butcher, Sylvabrae Newton’s Law.

2. Mr. D. Moir, Winaria Wellington. Another lovely dog. Nice head proportions with lovely pigment but not as broad as 1. Good lay of shoulder and return of upper arm balanced with rear angulation. Moved well.

1. Mr. D. Moir, Winaria Wellington.

2. Mrs. J. Cox, Braesnobel Salt N’ Pepper. Beautifully presented and handled masculine dog. Correct head proportions. Balanced angulation fore and rear but not quite the layback of shoulder of 1. Moved well as he is balanced.

Postgraduate Dog

1. Mrs. V. Nolan, Talraz Badge of Honour JW. This boy commanded attention from his first circuit around the ring, his movement is so effortless, light and balanced and he just flowed around the ring. He is also so at one with his handler. He has a lovely broad flat skull, excellent layback of shoulder and return of upper arm with matching rear angles and length coming from length of rib. Out moved the others in his class and indeed the other dogs today. BD, BOS, RBIS.

2. Ms. And Mrs. M. & G. Leckenby and Alexander, Kiltondale Cherokee. A lovely dog who was unfortunate to come up against 1 today. Correct head proportions and good pigmentation. Good layback of shoulder and moved well just not with quite the reach and drive of 1.

3. Mrs. D. Skinner, Tamjenta Bendalacreme. Completed a trio of lovely dogs in this class. Nice head proportions and good pigment. Balanced angulation but not quite the length of rib of the first two. In good coat and well presented.

Limit Dog

1. Dr. S. Savage and Mr. D. McLean, Talraz Comic Relief at Canaich JW. A plain boy who is easy to overlook but has really come into his own in the last 12 months. He has good head proportions with the darkest of eye and good pigment. Excellent layback of shoulder and good length coming from the rib. Nothing overdone about him, finished with a nice harsh adult coat and moves around the ring like he could work all day.

2. Mrs. and Mr. B. and K. Handley, Bargemon Brigadoon at Barkenbear JW. Another lovely boy who pushed 1 all the way but was just not moving quite as well as I know he can. Good head proportions with broad flat skull. Balanced angulation and good length of rib. Beautifully presented and handled.

3. Mrs. and Miss A. & C. Bowden, Subessen Heart of Rome ( Re Imp) Built along smaller lines than the first two, this dog is nevertheless well balanced. He has excellent head proportions and good pigment. Balanced angulation and moved well. Shown to his best advantage.

Open Dog

1. Mrs L. Dumbrell, Brodaty Limited Edition at Bethlyntee. A beautifully proportioned and presented dog who my hands just flowed over. Has a lovely profile when free standing. Broad flat skull of correct proportions, strong muzzle and eyes toning with coat. Good layback of shoulder and return of upper arm and balanced movement. Finished with correct jacket, not overdone in anyway. I was really frustrated with him in the dog challenge as would have liked to have awarded him more but he didn’t move then as well as I know he can move.

2. Mrs J. Goodbrand, Braesnobel Looney Tunes. Another beautifully presented and well-handled dog. Masculine boy with lovely head proportions and balanced angulation and good movement. Just not the layback of shoulder and length of rib of 1.

Minor Puppy Bitch

2. Mrs. D. Weightman, Debbeacol It’s Now Or Never. Another raw 6-month-old puppy a bit bum high at present. Slate with good pigment and balanced angulation, would prefer a slightly longer rib. Moved well.

3. Ms. J. & A. Waldron and Gray, Une Histoire D’Amour De Chester with Snowmead (Imp Fra). Beautifully presented and handled 6-month-old puppy with lovely head proportions. Good length of rib but would prefer a little more length of leg. Moved well.

1. Mrs. D. Weightman, Debbeacol It’s Now Or Never.

Veteran Bitch

1. Mrs. and Miss A. and C. Bowden, CH Subessen Blaze of Fire VW. I knew from the minute this girl went around the ring with her lovely movement that she was going to take some beating. Very feminine 9-year-old bitch who was presented and handled to perfection. Produced a lovely profile free standing. Good head proportions with dark eye and excellent pigmentation. Good layback of shoulder with balanced rear angulation. Excellent length of rib and moved so freely around the ring I felt she could have worked all day. Never faltered in the bitch challenge either BB, BVB, BIS, BVIS.

1. Mrs. D. Weightman, Debbeacol It’s Now Or Never.

Graduate Bitch

1. Mr. C. Simpson, Kilfinan Lady Madonna. A plain feminine young lady who is going to take time to fully mature but shows a lot of promise. Good head proportions and darkest of eyes. Excellent layback of shoulder and return of upper arm which meant she had lovely balanced movement with excellent reach. Finished off with a harsh jacket.

Postgraduate Bitch

1. Mr., Mrs. and Miss M. E. & L. Jay, Talraz Song of Summer. A nicely balanced feminine bitch who has some maturing still to do. Loved her overall proportions and her excellent layback of shoulder and return of upper arm balanced with her rear angulation and length coming from length of rib. Moved around the ring with ease carrying her topline at all times. Beautifully presented and handled. Her jacket is still to fully mature so she can only get better. RBB.

2. Mrs. L. Kuz, Kiltondale Memphis Belle at Strufingill. A more mature young lady. Dark slate and white with nice head proportions. Good layback of shoulder and length of rib. Took a while to get into her stride but when she did, she moved well, just preferred overall reach of 1.

3. Mr. C. Simpson, Kilfinan Lady Madonna.

Limit Bitch

1. Mrs D. and D. Skinner and Beech, Dychix the Rag Nymph. Mature blue bitch in full coat presented in good condition. Excellent head proportions and good reach of neck with balanced angulation fore and rear which reflected in her sound movement.

2. Ms. S. & E. Bird, Irisaddition She’s All That with Bridus JW. A different type to 1, feminine, but looked like she could do a day’s work. Good head proportions and dark eye, with nice length of neck and balanced angulation. Moved well but not quite the reach of 1 but I was splitting hairs between the top three in this class. Excellent harsh jacket.

3. Mr., Mrs. and Miss M. E. & L. Jay, Matamata Lorien Lady at Talraz. Another lovely feminine girl from this kennel and pushed 1 and 2 all the way, just lost out a little in maturity to them but lots to like about her. Has a lovely head, classic profile on the stand and good lay of shoulder. Moved well.

Open Bitch

1. Mrs S. Muir, Douglasdale Dream Island. Larger bitch but still remains feminine. Good head proportions and loved her deep brown harsh jacket and toning eyes. Good lay of shoulder, and length of rib and moved well, just has a tendency to drop her topline sometimes on the stand.

2. Mr. and Mrs. R. & A. Jellie, Kiltondale Coco Chanel at Jellwell. Another mature brown bitch who also had a lovely head and good lay of shoulder just not the length of rib of 1. She moved well but also sometimes drops her topline on the stand.
