DURHAM COUNTY CANINE ASSOCIATION PREMIER OPEN SHOW – 16th July 2023

Samoyed

I would like to thank the committee for giving me my first judging appointment for my breed and thank all the exhibitors for their entries. The forecasted rain managed to stay away, so strong wind aside I thoroughly enjoyed the day, and thank my steward for keeping all the paperwork intact.

Puppy (1, 1)

Although sad not to have a puppy to go through, it’s always reassuring to know that puppy’s wellbeing takes precedence in an unsettling weather condition.

Special Yearling (3, 2)

1st Hounslow‘s Sharla Hot Shot at Nikitta. A 21-month boy just learning his ropes to the show scene. Inquisitive & full of character. Correct head unit with everything where it should be, good pigmentation and bite, displaying a lovely affectionate Sammy smile. Firm body, good front with correct shoulders. Good skeletal construction have a little bit more room to develop. Movement, working in progress, still mainly in ‘pet’ mode rather than in ‘show’ gear. With experience, would be interesting to see how he progresses in the near future. Very promising.

Limit (5, 3)

1st Milne’s Lumistarr This Is How We Do It. 2-year-old boy. Not long out of Yearling, but already showing great promise with balanced movement, purposeful stride and covers the ring well. Well-constructed head, with well set eyes, lovely muzzle and thick round ears showing a hint of cheekiness. Well proportioned,  strong bone and well ribbed, covered with good silver tipped coat.  RBOB

2nd Richardson’s Sasoolka Ury. 3-year-old dog with good kind and tentative expression. Well presented with a superb textured coat. Good neck, front and depth of chest,  with strong bone and well-developed body and nicely carried tail set.  Slightly less drive than 1 but well balanced with good angulations.

Open (4, 1)

1st Pritchard & Roberts’ Another Benji For Yoshi And Us (Imp Svk). This 4-year-old dog has got ample of class, superb showmanship that encompasses all the breed’s characteristics without being statuesque. Masculine head showing intelligence in abundance behind those well-set dark eyes. Thick round ears, strong neck over well-placed shoulders. Takes a little time to adjust to the ring condition, but once settled, moved with balance and drive showing good angulation front and back coupled with a compact loin creating a well-proportioned profile. My BOB and glad to know he’s also awarded Group 2 later in the day.

2nd Milne’s Lumistarr Love Me For Life. 3-year-old young lady, only slightly outdone by the boys today. Lovely shaped almond eyes framed by a pleasing head and well-placed ears. Lovely silhouette with correct conformation. Good turn of stifle with lovely, feathered feet. Most impressed with her movement today, moved effortlessly as one with her handler, showing good drive through her hindquarters and reach at the front.

3rd Dents’ Whitespirit Madam Mischief. Last but not least, this just turned 7-year-old girl has a very sweet and kind expression, broader wedge-shaped head than 1, strong muzzle with good bite. Compact frame with strong neck, deep chest, and well sprung ribs. Good coat, moved well.
