Cumberland Canine Association Open Show 5th February 2023

It was a real pleasure for me to be invited to judge at such a friendly and well-run show. A big thank you to the committee and to my stewards for looking after me on the day and to all the exhibitors who gave me the opportunity to go over their dogs. I was very pleased to find some exciting dogs who I am certain have a very bright future ahead.

Rottweiler

Puppy (2,0)

1st Bennett’s Jantavia Rebel Rebel. A promising 10-month-old dog who is very together for his age. Head of correct proportions and good width between ears. Clean muscular neck flowing into strong back. Good lay of shoulder and return of upper arm. Well filled chest with good depth of brisket. Plenty of bone throughout. Moved well. BP

2nd Deas Jessica Von Haus Istokovic Bugarivo (IMP SRB) NAF TAF. 10-month-old Bitch with lovely feminine head and almond shaped eyes. Well angulated front and rear with good bone and compact feet. Deep chest with well sprung ribs, strong loins, croup sloping slightly. Needs time to settle on the move which cost her the class.

Graduate (2,0)

1st Raine’s Victorem Luck Be A Lady. 15-month-old Bitch of great balance and shown in excellent condition. Feminine head of medium length and free from loose skin. Dark almond shaped eye and well-defined stop. Small ears set high with good width between. Correct layback of shoulder, back straight and strong. Rear with well-muscled 2nd thigh, good turn of stifle and hocks well let down. Moved with ease. BOB

2nd Rogerson & Jackson’s Taneven Bliss. 16-month-old Dog with kind expression. Well-proportioned head with correct muzzle to skull length, and well-defined stop. Small well set pendant ears, eyes dark and almond shaped. Shoulders well laid back. Would just prefer a little more return of upper arm. Ribs well sprung. Good turn of stifle, hocks well let down, feet compact with well arched toes. Moved ok once settled.

Open (4,1)

1st Pollock’s Rottpheonix Severin. 3-year-old Dog with calm expression. Masculine head with good breadth of skull and correct length of muzzle. Neck strong flowing into straight back. Chest deep and well filled. Balanced angulation front and rear. A little loose in front on the move but improved when settled.

2nd Velcheva-Bozhkova’s Taneven Alexa. 2-year-old Bitch with good substance throughout. Correct depth of brisket, ribs well sprung, correct length of body and strong coupling. Good angulation front and rear. Excited on the move today.

Dogue De Bordeaux

1st Moran’s Aibrean Heart of Glass, 2-year-old Bitch shown in excellent condition and who I was pleased to see, really enjoying her day in the ring. Good head with pronounced stop, fine wrinkles, short strong muzzle and open nostrils. Strong muscular neck into well laid shoulders and solid back. Good angulation front and rear. Moved well. BOB

2nd Kenyon’s Desquire Aurora’s Dream, 2-year-old Bitch with good substance throughout. Good width to skull, with prominent cheeks and short, powerful muzzle. Strong neck, good lay of shoulder and deep chest with well sprung ribs. Hocks well let down, would prefer a little more turn of stifle. Moved ok.

Dobermann

Open (2,1)

1st Randall’s Ares God of War, 2-year-old strongly built Dog. Head, masculine with good length and depth to muzzle. Top of skull flat, with small close-fitting ears set high on head. Eyes, almond shaped and moderately deep set. Good length of neck. Correct depth of brisket and filled chest. Round bone and tight feet. Angulation balanced front and rear. Straight topline, correct croup and well tucked up belly. Muscular hindquarters, which helped him move around the ring with drive. BOB

Boxer

Graduate (4,1)

1st Bell’s Surfstone Get Carter. 11-month-old brindle puppy Dog. Square in profile and shown in great condition. Masculine head with good length and depth to muzzle, carried on strong, muscular arched neck. Shoulders long and sloping with good return of upper arm. Correct depth of brisket, short well tucked up loin. Strong, well-muscled, hindquarters, helped him move around the ring with ease. BP

2nd Harrington’s Surfstone Miss Dior. 11-month-old, well balanced, dark brindle Bitch, who is litter sister to 1st. Clean feminine head of good proportions. Dark eye which helps her kind expression. Good arch and length to neck, flowing into well laid shoulders. Deep chest, reaching elbows. Ribs well arched, good length to body. Hindquarters strong and well-muscled, with good turn of stifle and cat like feet. Moved with ease once settled.

1st Bell’s Surfstone Whirlwind. 2-year-old brindle Bitch, shown in great condition and well-muscled throughout. Clean head with dark well-set eyes helping alert expression. Moderate sized ears set high and lying flat to her skull. Strong clean neck. Good lay of shoulder and return of upper arm. Chest well filled, forelegs straight with strong bone. Back straight with slight slope, loins well tucked up. Well angulated hindquarters with good strength to second thigh. Compact feet with well arched toes. Full of mischievousness and energy, she moved around the ring with reach and drive. BOB

2nd Thomson’s Bugarivo A Modo Nostro. 3-year-old Bitch with feminine head and kind expression. Well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm. Deep chest with well arched ribs set well back to short loin. Rear well-muscled, with good turn of stifle. Moved ok

Siberian Husky

Post Graduate (4,0)

1st Odell’s Howlvalley’s Nyx, 6-month-old Bitch who really took my eye. Feminine head of correct proportions with ears set high and erect. Well set, almond shaped eyes, adding to her alert, keen expression. Shoulder well laid back with adequate return of upper arm. Level topline to moderately sloping croup. Chest deep, ribs well sprung with slight tuck up to loins. Hindquarters strong and parallel with good turn of stifle and hocks well let down. Moved effortlessly around the ring with reach and drive. I was pleased to award her BP, BOB and Working Puppy Group 1

2nd Bryson’s Inukshuk O’naniitchuk Kulu, 16-month-old Dog of finer type to first and still quite raw but has plenty of time. Pleasing head with kind expression. Balanced outline, excellent topline which he held on the move. Angulation good both front and rear. Moved well.

1st Odell’s Lyfearon She is a Wildflower Howlvalley, 2-year-old Bitch with lots to like and well-muscled throughout. Shoulders well laid back with no sign of looseness on the move. Body of medium length with deep chest and well-muscled slightly arched loins. Good turn of stifle and well let down hocks. Moved around the ring freely.

2nd Odell’s Siberiadrift Secret Weapon For Howlvalley, 3-year-old of excellent proportions. Nice head with alert expression, good length of neck. Shoulder well laid back with correct return of upper arm. Correct ribbing. Well-muscled hindquarters. Moved around the ring with ease.

AVNSC Working

Puppy (2,1)

1st Bigham’s Daisonville Im Your Man. 10-month-old Bullmastiff Dog, who was very together for his age. Masculine head, broad and deep skull with well filled cheeks and high set, V-shaped ears. Well arched neck of correct length. Muscular shoulders and deep well let down chest. Strong loins with good width. Hindquarters well developed with well-muscled second thigh. Good bone throughout, catlike feet with well arched toes. Moved around the ring well. BP

Post Graduate (8,4)

1st Reynold’s Etterbern Bolt Out the Blue. 14-month-old male Bernese Mountain Dog, shown in excellent condition and so balanced, both stacked and on the move. This dog took my eye the moment he entered the ring and did not disappoint throughout. Striking jet black with rich reddish brown and clear white markings. Strong masculine head with well-defined stop and flat skull. Kind expression enhanced by dark almond shaped eyes and ears set high on head. Strong muscular neck flowing into well laid-back shoulders and firm straight back. Good depth of filled chest, well ribbed and good strong loin of correct length. Hindquarters strong and well-muscled with good turn of stifle and well let down hocks. Good bone and body throughout but not overdone in any way. His reach and drive allowed him a balanced stride, covering the ring with ease. I was pleased to go on to award him Best AVNSC and Working Group 1. Delighted to see in the big ring he went on to a well-deserved B.I.S.

2nd Burgess Tolketna Top of The World To Mountainglen. 15-month-old Alaskan Malamute Bitch with friendy and loyal expression. Feminine head of correct proportions with good width of skull moderately rounded between the ears, set wide apart. Strong, arched neck into correctly laid shoulders and correct return of upper arm. Forelegs well-muscled with good bone front and rear. Back straight with correct slight downwards slope to croup. Moved well.

Open (4,3)

1st Burgess Cedarcreek Forever Young at Mountainglen. 7-year-old Alaskan Malamute Bitch with dark eye and kind expression. Strong, moderately arched neck would just prefer a little more length. Balanced angulation front and rear with good muscle throughout. Deep well filled chest, straight back and strong loins of correct length. Moved well from all angles.

1st Park’s Kjalarnes Go The Distance. 2-year-old Leonberger Bitch with feminine head. Good balance of muzzle to skull, medium stop and free from wrinkles. Dark oval shaped eyes enhancing her kind expression. Balanced angulation, front and rear. Good depth and breadth of chest, oval in shape. Lost her topline a touch at times when standing but held it well on the move. Moved with reach and drive.

1st Odell’s Graffsiberians Excel Exact For Howlvalley (Imp Rus). 4-year-old Siberian Husky Dog with so much to like about him. Head of good proportions with almond shaped eyes and alert expression. Correct lay of shoulder and return of upper arm. Strong body of medium length with level topline. Hindquarters well-muscled and powerful which showed as he moved around the ring effortlessly.

Special Veteran (3,0)

1st Burgess Cedarcreek Forever Young at Mountainglen. (See 1st AVNSC Working Open).

2nd Nevinson’s Chayo Golden Touch SHCH. 8-year-old Alaskan Malamute Dog who was in excellent condition and really enjoyed his day. Masculine, with good bone and substance throughout. Deep chest, strong loins of correct length. Balance angulation front and rear. Moved well once settled.
