Thank you for the committee for inviting me to judge at this well run show down on the West Sussex coast. I was delighted with my entry both in terms of quality and quantity.

Rhodesian Ridgeback

J (6, 4a): 1 BOB Holdsworth’s Rozelridge Forever Summer, just out of puppy at 12 months, good bone & substance yet retains femininity, correct body ratios with good ribbing & strength across the loin. Well constructed through the front with strength through the pasterns, moved co-ordinately. Ears need to settle & preferred head of 2 RBOB Ruse’s Bossington Bonne Carre at Flossfields, on outline I thought she would be my winner but her front assembly is not as strong as 1; she needs more strength through the front pasterns & her feet need more arch to the toes. Clean neck, good ribbing, taut through the loin & correct bend of stifle. Both bitches were buddies & it was lovely to see them playing together when they did their final run around the ring.

PG (5, 3a): R Forever Summer; 2 B Bonne Carre at F.

O (2, a).

Dalmatian

J (1, a).

O (2): 1 BOB Blisset’s Kystuno Warners King, 4-year-old black spotted dog really on his toes & using all his strength to give his handler a hard time. Tight feet, elbows close to the chest wall, clean strong neck, good spring of rib, balanced angulation fore & aft. He was hard to assess on the move, as he wanted to power ahead with his own steering but when he did settle, he moved well. In extremely fit condition.

Golden Retrievers

Delighted with my super entry. P (8, 1a): Challenging class to judge as an opener owing to puppies at various stages of development through from raw 6 month babies to more mature puppies – all at various levels of maturity. 1 BP & PG3 Henson’s Cinderbank Move It, 10 months cream dog, stood out straight away. Appeals both standing & moving, very together & balanced for age & definitely a boy! Lovely head, good depth of flew, clean neck into shoulders, correct body ratios, level topline, correct turn of stifle, lovely disposition. Looked good going around the ring. I thought he was a lovely boy & was delighted to see him placed PG3; 2 Clarke’s Sunnyoak The Love Of Love, 10 months cream bitch, appeals in outline & her handler does a professional job presenting her. Pretty head, kind eye, good through the forequarters, balanced angles fore & aft. As feminine as 1 is masculine, just not as strong as 1 through the rear pasterns on the move; 3 Eve’s Zannagold Follow The Sun at Bannersoph.

J (3, 1a): RBOB Poile’s Thornywait Starshine at Cherrimar, very anatomically sound bitch which was easy to see as she wasn’t wearing her party dress today! Looks good in outline & is very well handled to present her just so. Pretty head, good feet - nothing squiffy, clean over the topline, balanced angles fore & aft, moved well with very precise footfall. Very difficult to pick between 1 & 2, she was a smidgen better through the loin than 2 C Move It.

PG (6, 1a): 1 Gulliver’s Tonara Moon Walk, gentle boy with lots of strength. Won the class on movement – in side profile & fore & aft. He has good posture so on the move he displays not only good carriage through the neck but just in his general demeanour. Level topline, stands better in front than 2 Withey’s Rosinante Major Hero, has more oomph than 1 & I preferred his head but is closer behind than 1 & would prefer more neck extension. He catches your eye in outline; 3 Todd’s Kelbadora Dream Of Dreams with Toddrosa JW.

O (3): 1 BOB Clarke’s Sunnyoak The Girl Is Mine, mature cream bitch & dam of the second in puppy. Easy winner of the class, very balanced, pretty head, good front assembly, correct level topline, good feet & angulation, moved well in profile. In good coat & body condition. Slickly handled; 2 Poile’s Summeramba Twizzle at Cherrimar, stands up well in outline, correct body properties & angles fore & aft, not the rear movement of 1; 3 Rose’s Whetu Magical Mayhem.

English Springer Spaniel

PG (3, 1a): 1 Williams’ Cobhay Fancy Phlox, well-handled l/w bitch, pretty head, tight feet, good front assembly, ribbing & movement in profile. I liked her substance & preferred her outline over 2 Wilson’s Kingsheath Kushida at Cassapple, b/w & tan, good ribbing, correct angulation. Sweet personality - perhaps a little hormonal as she seemed not completely invested & was not moving as good in the rear.

O (5, 2a): 1 BOB Taubman’s Meltarose Madeleine at Meonstoke, looks lovely standing & moving, really looks the part with a lovely outline, good bone & substance & she is feminine with it. Correct turn of stifle. She was better through the neck & front than 2 RBOB Hydon’s Clentonian Pandemonium JW, lovely stacked & makes her presence felt, very competitive & gives a good account of herself & her handler presents her very well, in good body & coat condition; 3 Williams’ Cobhay Dazzling Azalea.

Open Stakes (33): Some exceptional dogs in this class, lovely to judge and both see and feel the quality. 1 White’s Dalmatian, Ch Sophtspot La De Da at Belsmard ShCEx, very stylish black spotted bitch in excellent condition, lovely outline, pretty head, tight feet, good spring of rib, moved & handled well. Really lovely bitch - quality; 2 Davies’ Kooikerhondje, Millhanger Kemboy, what a lovely boy, really thought he was quality, lovely head & eye with excellent pigment, good ribbing & muscle. Beat a beautiful Bearded Collie into 3 Bowden’s Ch Subessen Blaze Of Fire.

Special Yearling Stakes (27): 1 Perren & Welch’s Pointer, Evaluna Chasing Rainbows with Hookwood JW, lovely bitch, so sound & balanced, lovely outline, excellent bone & substance, good rear angles, uses her tail on the move; 2 Reed & Pace’s Whippet, Dejare A Dash Of Hope JW, lovely quality fawn white parti, bright eyes, correct ears. shoulders well laid back, lovely to go over & in good condition. Feeling the cold but still put in a good performance; 3 Barnett’s Shetland Sheepdog, Dippersmoor Daquiri at Sonspirit.
