Hunt, Point & Retrieve Gundog Association

Hunt, Point & Retrieve Gundog Association - Open Show

Sunday 19th November 2023

Judge – Miss Ceri Simpson (Leriton)

I would like to thank the officers and committee of the club for their kind invitation to judge at this show.

A wonderful venue, large rings – perfect for showing off a gundog and best of all a super atmosphere.

Thank you to all the exhibitors for bringing forward your impressive Large Munsterlanders.

Large Munsterlander:

Puppy (0,0)

Junior (4,0)

1. Mrs Lin & Mr Andy Robins – Tarkanya Ritas Ruby With Destanll

A well balanced 13 month old bitch, with a good depth of body for her age. Nicely angulated fore and rear quarters and well muscled throughout giving her the ideal framework from which to move with purpose. Good, balanced reach and drive around the big ring. Well toned underline and solid topline.

2. Mr D & Mrs S Mclellan – Raycris Fields of Glory for Saranden

Almost 16 month old bitch, more substance than 1 but still showing a correct square outline when stacked. Good forechest depth, well sprung ribs and a strong short loin but bested by the forelimb reach of 1 on the move today.

3. Ms Christine Leeson – Tarkanya Ritas Rosy

Post Graduate (4,2)

1. Dr C Middleton & Mrs C Trowsdale – Elmer Vom Blitzenbach at Amasffoy (Imp Deu)

A classy, attractive 18 month old dog. His strong, square outline and beautiful coat really caught my eye.

On the initial move around the ring he showed excellent uphill movement with freedom from the shoulder. This resulted in great reach and strong drive showing positive dissociation in his trot as well as demonstrating good structure and athleticism. A strong neck, correct shoulders and wide, prominent forchest leading to a well muscled and toned mid body, strong short loin and well turned stifles combined to make for an impressively held topline on the move. He looked like he could work all day on the toughest of grounds!

Delighted to award him BOB.

2. Mr Jack Waddington & Miss Eleanor Chick – Albadhu Walk of Life

3 year old dog, nice elongated head with well set on ears, inquisitive expression and buckets of personality!

Another with a good neck, shoulders and front assembly but slightly longer cast than 1 with a lower tail set resulting in a higher tail carriage than I'd like. Not quite as much drive as 1 on the move but a good solid topline and underline

Open (9,3)

1. Mrs L & Mr T J O’Connell – Jaudas New Orleans

A difficult class to judge as there was so much variation in type!

Rising 4 year old dog, his gradual sloping topline from the withers to croup drew my eye immediately - one of the few to tick this box. Well angulated infront and behind with plenty of bone and visible core strength. He really displayed proper balance with reach and drive stemming from his correct conformation combined with strong pastern and hock suspension giving the free and springy gait required of a good Large Munsterlander. He ate up the ground!

A very worthy RBOB

2. Mrs H J Ward – ShCh Braccpoint Song Of The Wind for Gemlorlen

6 year old bitch who’s free stand was quite impressive. Naturally balanced and square. Beautiful dark eyes and intelligent expression. Excellent rear angles and turn of stifle and also well let down hocks. She looked and felt muscularly solid. Good topline and ‘tuck up’ and moved effortlessly - just lacked the power and drive of 1 today

3. Mrs C Ogle & Mr R Butler – Ursel Vom Ahler Esch at Raycris
