STAFFORDSHIRE & BIRMINGHAM AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY OPEN SHOW – THURSDAY 1ST JUNE 2023

A lovely show with excellent hospitality and wonderful committee and stewards, but a shame that the date clashed with Pastoral Day at Southern Counties Championship Show, affecting the number of entries overall.

1st – HAWKINS Mr B & FOY Mrs O – BEECHMERE CRYSTAL AT BELDONES – Pretty sable bitch of 18 months stood alone but deserving class winner, has a very pleasing head with well placed stop and correct eye, lovely rounded foreface, correct dentition, good flat skull, nice length of neck with a good front and length of back, good angulation front and rear, good length of tail, moved well. RBOB

1st – DEVESON Mrs M F – MILESEND SEA PEARL – Very attractive and well presented dark shaded sable bitch of 7 years, appealing expression with good head, eye, well placed stop, ears correctly positioned, good length of neck into well placed shoulders, good length of back and tail, lovely front angulation and bend of stifle, good conformation showed through on the move. BOB & PASTORAL GROUP 4

2nd – DUNN Mr & Mrs A – BRILYN BACCARAT CRYSTAL TO BEECHMERE JW – Very pretty Gold Sable bitch of 5 years, lovely head and expression with well placed stop, nice kind eye, would prefer slightly more neck and length of upper arm, good length of back, moved okay but could not match 1 on the move today.

1st – DUNN Mr M & Mrs A – MOHNESEE DIAMONDS N PEARLS JW – 9 ½ year old quality blue merle bitch who appeals for overall shape, with a lovely head, well placed stop and correct almond eye, and good strong underjaw with excellent dentition, good flat skull, nice length to neck, good length of back and lovely bend of stifle, strode out well to win this class.

2nd – DEVESON Mrs M F – JANETSTOWN JE SUIS JW ShCM – Well presented Gold sable bitch, very similar age to 1 with only 1 month between them, has a nice head but a larger eye than I would prefer so not quite as sweet an expression as I would like, neck is of good length but this bitch is slightly shorter in upper arm with showed through on the move as lacked front extension but has good rear angulation.

AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD

1st – JONES Miss A D & Mrs D M – MILWYR JUBILEE FOR A QUEEN OF BARLEYDUST – Very wary and unsettled tri colour puppy bitch of almost 12 months old. Has good bone with well proportioned head, good bite, well placed ears, good length of neck and back, nice bend of stifle, moved well. Was more settled in Puppy Group. BPIB & PASTORAL PUPPY GROUP 4

1st – FULLER Mrs J L & Miss E J – JACANSHE MADE WITH LOVE – 16 month old red merle bitch who immediately appealed for overall shape and balance, has a lovely well proportioned head, good length of neck, good length of back and held a solid topline both standing and on the move, lovely bone, good front angulation and bend of stifle, I was just disappointed that moving away she ‘toes in’ slightly on the rear left. Still pleasing enough overall to award RBOB

1st – HARVEY Mrs J M – GEMTHORNE SWIRLING SNOW – Well presented quality blue merle bitch of 20 months of excellent colour, feminine but with good bone, lovely well proportioned head with excellent lip line, well constructed with very appealing head and expression, good length of neck and body, lovely front and rear angulation, well let down hocks, loved her smooth movement covering the ground with ease, BOB and PASTORAL GROUP 2

2nd – HARVEY Mrs J M – GEMTHORNE IT’S A HOTSPELL – Masculine well presented red dog of 20 months who is litter brother to 1. It appears a quality litter. Again, really well constructed with excellent angulations fore and aft, well boned, appealing head but I would prefer a tighter lip line, good dentition, moved really well but was out moved by his litter sister today.

1st – PRICE & HORNE Miss A & Miss J – WINARIA WINTER SOLSTICE FOR MOBUFF – well presented dark grey bitch of 15 months, has a lovely well proportioned head with appealing kind eye, very good bite, well placed ears, good length of neck falling into well placed shoulders, lovely level topline and good length of back and tail. Moved well, BOB & PASTORAL GROUP 3

1st – LARGE Ms J – WIZALAND RESPBERRY RIPPLE – well presented and very pretty 6 month old puppy bitch with excellent bone, lovely head and foreface with excellent stop and correct kind eye of good colour, good length of neck, good front assembly with decent length of back and good bend of stifle, good length to tail. At first she was quite apprehensive and I was advised she had a recent bad experience, but as the day went on, she regained her confidence and I hope had a really enjoyable day today. Moved well enough in her class and the challenge to be awarded RBOB & BPIB. However, when it came to the Pastoral Puppy Group, this young lady appeared to have her confidence back and outmoved all other puppies with reach and drive, therefore winning herself PASTORAL PUPPY GROUP 1

1st – LARGE Ms J - WIZALAND MY JEZTIC SOCKS – 19 month old bitch who has a decent bite and nice head, however, I feel this bitch is currently out of proportion, and would prefer more depth of chest. Moved okay.

1st - WEBB Mrs Y – BORDERBROOK FIRE AND FLAME – well presented masculine 4 year old male who has a very attractive head with good proportions and good stop, kind eye. Excellent chest and good front and rear angulation with good length to his back and decent bend of stifle. Moved really well. BOB

2nd – LARGE Ms J – ANSCOT JASMINE – Very pretty bitch of 4 ½ years, has a good chest, decent bone, has decent length of neck and a good topline but I would prefer slightly more length of back, good bend of stifle, moved well.

1st – PALLATINA Miss – VALLTINEYA PLOT TWIST – Extremely promising and confident 6 month old Swedish Vallhund puppy bitch who oozes quality at her very first show. She has an excellent head with a wonderful inquisitive expression, good tight lipline, excellent flat skull, good length of neck and back, lovely front and rear construction, moved extremely well for her first time. BEST AVNSC PUPPY & PASTORAL PUPPY GROUP 3

1st – LEDGAR Mrs C J – WOODHENGE STAR ATTRACTION WITH JASROLYN – 17 month old sable Welsh Corgi (Pembroke) bitch who has a lovely expressive foxy head with excellent ear carriage, good neck, chest and length of back, good level topline, moved well.

2nd – MORRIS Miss A J – HEY YOU BEAUTIFUL – 15 month sable Welsh Corgi (Pembroke) bitch who has lovely angulation for and aft, good level topline, needs to settle and will be top drawer.

1st – MORRIS Miss A J – REACH FOR THE STARS – 15 month old tricolour Welsh Corgi (Pembroke) dog who has a wonderful head and expression, good ears and neck, wonderful chest and front and rear angulation, moved extremely well sporting the most level of toplines. BEST AVNSC PASTORAL

2nd – LEDGAR, Mrs C J – WOODHENGE STAR ATTRACTION WITH JASROLYN – First place in Junior Class but I preferred the movement and topline of 1 in this class.

3rd – COCHRANE Mrs D E – LISJOVIA LOVE ON THE ROCKS FOR MYATOKSCI Pyrenean Mountain Dog.

1st – STRANGE Mrs G S – WHITEDREAMTEAM SIMPLY THE BEST (IMP CRO) – 8 month old White Swiss Shepherd Dog bitch who I feel when mature will live up to her name. Slightly reserved which is to be expected but overall is a beautiful puppy who is extremely promising, excellent head and eye giving wonderful expression, good length of neck and back, lovely front and rear angulation, lovely topline on the move, moved well, one to watch. BEST AV IMPORTED BREED REGISTER PASTORAL, BEST AV IMPORTED BREED REGISTER PASTORAL PUPPY & PASTORAL PUPPY GROUP 2.

1ST – PULLIN Mrs E – BARRENCLOUGH DIAMOND DAWN AT MYJACKS – Collie (Rough) – 3 year old, well groomed sable dog with profuse coat. Has a decent foreface but would prefer not such a deep stop, good dark eye, his ears I would prefer not so widely placed on skull, would prefer neck to be slightly longer, length of back okay but would prefer more length to tail, he is steeper in upper arm which shows in short forward reach on the move and he was throwing his right rear leg out when moving away.

A.V. VETERAN PASTORAL

1st – DEVESON Mrs M F – LUCKY LIASON AT LIANBRAY ShCM VW – Shetland Sheepdog – Beautifully presented 13 year old mahogany sable bitch with a beautifully moulded head, kind eye, perfect clean dentition, good flat skull, well placed and used ears, lovely length of back and tail, excellent front and rear angulation which showed when moving beautifully round the ring, did not put a foot wrong. May have stood alone but well worthy BEST A.V. VETERAN PASTORAL

PASTORAL GROUP

I was very pleased to see a full line up with no dogs missing for the Pastoral Group and what a strong Group it was, on another day the Best of Breed winners could easily change place.

GROUP 1 went to MRS B WHITE’S BRACKENHAYE LIONHEART – Collie (Smooth) 3 year old oozing quality and the blackest of jackets on this tricolour dog and no mistaking he is all male. Has a wonderful correct head with slight but perceptible stop, lovely dark eye, excellent dentition, well placed and tipped ears which were used when asked, good length of neck laying into excellent shoulders, good depth of chest, length of back and tail, he powered around the ring with drive and forward reach.

GROUP 2 was awarded to MRS J M HARVEY’S GEMTHORNE SWIRLING SNOW – Australian Shepherd another who excelled in rear drive but not quite the overall package of the Collie (Smooth).

GROUP 3 – MISS A PRICE & MISS J HORNE’S WINARIA WINTER SOLSTICE FOR MOBUFF – Bearded Collie

GROUP 4 – MRS M F DEVESON’S MILESEND SEA PEARL – Shetland Sheepdog

PASTORAL PUPPY GROUP

4 puppies to choose from and all very worthy Best Puppy in Breed winners with promising futures ahead.

PUPPY GROUP 1 – MS J LARGE’S WIZALAND RASPBERRY RIPPLE – Border Collie having regained her confidence, this young 6 month puppy absolutely showed her socks off both standing and on the move.

PUPPY GROUP 2 – MRS G S STRANGE’S WHITEDREAMTEAM SIMPLY THE BEST (IMP CRO) – White Swiss Shepherd Dog another who was relaxing into the show day and pushed hard for top spot.

PUPPY GROUP 3 – MISS PALLATINA’S VALLTINEYA PLOT TWIST – Swedish Vallhund

PUPPY GROUP 4 – MISS A D & MRS D M JONES’ MILWYR JUBILEE FOR A QUEEN OF BARLEYDUST – Australian Shepherd
