Herts & Essex Border Canine Society

My thanks to the Officers and Committee for this invitation - originally scheduled for 2020. I had a super day assessing many lovely dogs - thank you to all who entered and especial thanks to my stewards Penny and Fran who were kept extremely busy and worked very hard throughout.



AV Open Stakes


1st Penn’s Dalfellin Agape (Dalmatian): Very smart well balanced bitch. Stands four square all round. Head of good length and breadth. Clean, nicely arched neck leading to well laid shoulder with corresponding length and return of upper arm. Elbows close to the body. Well defined withers. Good depth of chest. Well muscled hindquarters with nicely turned stifles. Excellent bone and feet. Moved on a very easy long stride.  


2nd Benton’s Ch Brooklynson Jane Russell of Oakestelle (Rough Collie): I gave this lovely bitch a BIS some years ago and at 8 years old she still retains her lovely outline. Lovely wedge shaped head with flat skull and flat, tapering cheeks. Ears well set. Excels in forehand construction with well laid shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm. Front legs set well under the body. Good length of body with slight rise over the loin. Strong hindquarters with well bent stifles. Moved soundly on a light, effortless stride. In excellent coat and condition

1st Graves’ Belleville I’m At Pipsacre (Norwich Terrier). Well balanced. Very sturdy and compact. Head of good proportions with wedge shaped muzzle. Ears set well apart. Good length of neck leading to well laid shoulders. Short in back with good depth of chest. Long ribcage with short loin. Powerful hindquarters with well turned stifles and low hocks. Moved on a good stride with a great sense of purpose. Best AVNSC

2nd Graves’ Pipsacre Spring Tide (Norwich Terrier). Good overall balance. Not quite as compact as winner. Head of good dimensions with ears set well apart. Well laid shoulder. Elbows close to the body. Well sprung ribcage. Not quite the strength in hindquarters as the winner. Moved out soundly

1st England & Burrage’s Ch Ashleyheaths Black Thunder ShCM ShCex VW (Cesky Terrier). Stunning dog who commanded the ring today. Excellent overall balance. Head of good shape with long skull and distinctive stop. Strong but elegant neck leading to well laid shoulders. Strong topline with correct rise over the loin. Well sprung rib cage with good loin length. Strong, well muscled hindquarters. In excellent coat and condition. Moved accurately fore and aft with great drive. BV

2nd Burrage’s Ch Komidon Night Music At Sametova ShCM, ShCex VW (Cesky Terrier). Close up to the winner. Well balanced all through. Head of good length with ears well set. Scores in forehand construction. Correct topline with nicely arched loin. Not quite as strong in hindquarters as the winner. Moved accurately and with purpose. Excellent coat texture.

1st Steinke’s Toulsyork Perfectionist At Temtiz. Strong, compact bitch with good overall balance. Head of good length with skull equal to muzzle. Clean neck of good length leading to well laid shoulder. Good depth of chest. Would like a little more strength in topline. Well ribbed back. Strong hindquarters with good length of stifle. Good harsh coat - very well presented. Moved on a good accurate stride. BOB.

1st Burrage’s Komidion Sonata For Sametova JW. Very smart youngster who is well balanced all through. Head of good length with slight stop. Ears high set. Long, elegant neck leading to well laid shoulders. Length of body in ratio to height showing rise over the loin which is of good length showing slight tuck up. Powerful hindquarters. Excellent bone and feet. Movement displayed accuracy fore and aft and good drive when viewed in profile.

2nd Weston’s Wherrypoint Englebert. Very well balanced - giving a bit away in age to the winner. Head of good length with slightly arched skull. Clean neck leading to well laid shoulder. Correct topline with good length of loin. Well made hindquarters. Moved out well. BP and PG2.

3rd Goundry’s Komidion Symphoniques At Sarminija

1st Burrage’s Sametova Bacary. Smart well balanced dog showing good breed outline. Head of good length with slight stop and slightly arched skull. Ears high set. Neck showing strength and elegance leading to well laid shoulder. Good spring of rib and correct length of loin showing slight tuck up. Scores in his hindquarters which are very well muscled. On the move he really excels showing tremendous length of stride which won him the class and BOB over his dam. BOB and G2.

2nd Burrage’s Ch Komidion Prima Donna of Sametova. A truly lovely bitch who today was just out-moved by her son but on another day could change places. Very well balanced. Scores in head which is of good length and slightly triangular when viewed from above. Well laid shoulder. Correct topline and length of ribcage. Strong hindquarters with well muscled upper thighs. In excellent coat. Moved well. RBOB

1st Walls’ All Jacks Never Say Never (imp ITA): Well balanced all through. Head shape good with definite stop and well filled cheeks. Well laid shoulder with corresponding length of upper arm. Level topline with short loin. Well made hindquarters with low set hocks. Moved out on a good stride. RBOB.

2nd Evans’ Kulawand Wicked Whisper At Jackpack. Excellent overall balance. Head of correct proportions. Strong neck. Scores in forehand construction with front legs well under the body. Level topline and strong hindquarters. Not quite as ground covering in movement but could change places on another day.

1st Evans’ Caldbeckjack Primrose At Jackpack. Absolutely loved this bitch. Super overall balance showing correct length to height ratio. Well shaped head with definite stop and strong muzzle. Ears high set. Strong neck leading to copybook forehand construction with shoulder blade and upper arm of equal length. Well ribbed back. Scores in hindquarters with well muscled second thigh and hocks well let down. In excellent coat and condition. Powerful movement. BOB and G1.

2nd Walls’ Tiltser Marsielle. Little squarer in outline than the winner but still showing enough length of body. Excellent head with definite stop and well filled cheeks. Well laid shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm. Good depth of chest. Level topline leading to well made hindquarters. Excellent coat texture. Moved well on a good stride.

1st Brown’s Afinlea Willow Beauty. 7 months old so therefore still very raw. Good overall shape. Head of wedge shape with clean cheeks. Clean neck leading to well laid shoulder. Would like more angulation in the upper arm. Correct heigh ratio on that the forelegs are slightly longer than the distance from wither to elbow. Good length of ribcage and nicely made hindquarters. Moved soundly once settled. (BP)

1st Brown’s Afinlea Pale Tussock. Good overall balance. Head well shaped with clean cheeks and skull slightly longer than muzzle. Little short in neck and upright in shoulder. Forelegs of good length with excellent bone. Well made hindquarters with muscular second thighs. Moved parallel fore and aft. Would like a little more extension in profile.

1st Hall’s Frithgarth Master The World. Very good overall balance showing correct breed outline. Excellent head of wedge shape and clean cheeks. Neck of good length leading to well laid shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm placing the legs well under the body. Correct length of forelegs. Good length of ribcage with strong loin. Scores in hindquarters - muscular and stifles well bent. Moved accurately fore and aft and with good length of stride when viewed in profile. BOB

2nd Brown’s Afinlea Wood Leopard. Very pretty bitch who is well balanced all through. True head shape with clean cheeks and gradually tapering muzzle. Well laid shoulder - would like a little more length of upper arm. Well ribbed back. Strong well muscled hindquarters. Moved well on a good stride. RBOB

Neck of good length leading to well laid shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm with elbows close to the chest. Level topline with well sprung ribcage. Strong hindquarters. Excellent coat texture. Moved briskly with drive. RBOB

1st Curtis’ Jolihem Lene Joe Badger: Good overall balance portraying an oblong outline. Head has good width of skull and strong square jaw. Long neck leading to well laid shoulder and good depth of chest. Ribs well sprung and carried well back. Strong, muscular hindquarters with well bent stifles and well set hocks. Moved with great drive. BOB.

2nd Smith’s Dudwell Golden Girl Gwenny At Grevenia (imp Deu). Good overall balance - not quite the length in backline as winner. Excellent head shape with square jaw and ears well set. Well laid shoulder and depth of chest. Strong hindquarters with hocks set parallel. In excellent coat and condition. Moved out well.

Puppy (3)

1st Jones’ Kamaristaffs Royal Velvet. Very well balanced all through. Head has good width with prominent cheeks, well defined stop and short muzzle. Clean short neck with well laid shoulder. Good spring of rib. Hindquarters correct for age. Parallel movement fore and aft.

2nd Jefferson’s Alport No Surrender. Well balanced puppy - just giving away a little in age and not quite as positive on the move. Good breadth of skull with distinct stop. Chest of good width and depth for age. Well proportioned all through. Excellent bone and feet.

3rd Perfect’s Leebee’s Lili Diana


Special Yearling (3)

1st Jones’ Kamaristaffs Royal Rumour. Loved this youngster. At 8 months I hope he has finished his growing. He is so well balanced but not coarse in any way. Head has good width and depth. Well trounced cheeks, distinct stop and short muzzle. Short strong neck leading to well laid shoulder. Chest of very good width and depth. Well sprung ribcage. Scores in his hindquarters. Excellent bone and feet. Very confident on the move - parallel fore and aft and good drive when viewed in profile. RBOB, BP and PG1.

2nd Rowe & South’s Illori Constellation JW. Good overall balance. Pleasing head with well defined stop. Chest of good width and depth. Strong body with well sprung ribcage. Muscular hindquarters. Good bone. Feet could be better. Moved freely - not quite as accurate going away as winner.

3rd Leebee’s Lili Diana

1st Jefferson’s Alport Bold Ruler: Excellent overall balance showing strength without coarseness. Head has good width and depth with well pronounced cheeks, definite stop and short muzzle. Ears well set. Strong muscular neck leading to well laid shoulder. Good width and depth of chest with ribs well sprung. Level topline leading to low set tail. Strong, muscular hindquarters. Excellent bone with well padded feet. Moved accurately both fore and aft and demonstrated good rear drive when viewed in profile. Expertly presented and handled to advance. BOB & G4

2nd Yates’ Zakdan Devious Devil JW. Good overall balance. Head showing good width and depth with well defined stop and prominent cheeks. Excellent width and depth of chest. Well sprung ribcage. Level topline. Well muscled hindquarters. Not the accuracy in rear movement as the winner today.

1st Boulton’s Nizeva Shot Silk: Well balanced all through. Head of good breadth with defined stop and short muzzle. Deep wide chest. Well sprung ribcage. Well muscled hindquarters with good bone and feet. Sound on the move - but rushed rather than drove.  

2nd Rowe & South’s Illori Akinlana JW ShCM VW. Placed in good AV Veteran class earlier. Well balanced and showing a good outline. Deep broad head with well defined stop. Good width of chest with well sprung ribs. Little slack in pasterns. Strongly made hindquarters. Sound movement.

1st Adshead’s Afonbach Syrax (NSDTR). Top quality puppy who recently won BPIB at Crufts when I judged her. She is well balanced all through and very true to type. Head is of a good wedge shape with clean checks. Scores in her forehand construction with well laid shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm. Front legs well under the body. Well ribbed back. Well made hindquarters with hocks set square to the ground. In excellent coat and condition. Moved well with tail held correctly.

2nd Bambrook’s Winsleywood Waghorn at Ravoakar. (Labrador). I liked this young Labrador very much. He is well balanced with a good length of leg. Well shaped head with defined stop and very soft expression. Clean neck leading to excellent lay of shoulder and corresponding length and return of upper arm. Good depth of chest. Well sprung ribcage. Level topline leading to correct tailset. Well formed hindquarters with nicely bent stifles and hocks parallel to the ground. Excellent bone and feet. Moved out well both fore and aft and on a good stride when viewed in profile.

3rd Heath & Robinson’s Pinseeker Pep Guardiola. (GSP)

1st Davies Maplehope Melrose Miss of Peacevale. (Cocker). Very well balanced bitch with square outline. Excellent head with good chiselling beneath the eyes and broad muzzle. Clean neck leading to well laid shoulder and corresponding length and return of upper arm. Elbows close to the brisket. Big ribcage with short loin. Strong rump leading to well bent stifles with good width of second thigh. Excellent bone and feet. Moved well on excellent stride using her tail well.

2nd Pont’s Amore Of Ridsome (Chesapeake Bay). Well made youngster of good breed type. Well balanced all through. Well proportioned head with good breadth of skull and correct ear set. Clean neck leading to well laid shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm. Well ribbed back leading to loin with slight tuck up. Strong hindquarters with correctly bent stifles and hocks well set. Excellent coat texture. Moved out well on a good stride.

3rd Quill’s Lamancha Shooting Star (Golden Retriever)

1st Taylor & Robertson’s Heniveruce King Of Brewers (WSS). Well balanced all through. Good head shape with clean cheeks and soft pleading expression. Clean neck eating to well laid shoulder and return of upper arm. Correct topline. Good depth of chest. Well ribbed back. Well made hindquarters with stifles nicely bent and hocks well set and parallel to the ground. Moved out well both fore and aft and showing good length of stride when viewed in profile. In excellent coat and condition. 

2nd Finchams’ Danehavens Macdonalds (NSDTR). Well balanced all through with no exaggerations. Well shaped head with clean cheeks and moderate stop. Strong neck leading to well laid shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm. Correct depth of chest. Level topline. Well made hindquarters. Excellent bone and feet. In excellent coat and condition. Moved well with correct tail carriage.

3rd Dunnett’s Hoedun Miss Atomic Bomb (Flatcoated Retriever)

Scores in her forehand construction with shoulder blade and upper arm of equal length. Good depth of brisket with elbows close to the body. Well ribbed back leading to loin with slight tuck up. Strong hindquarters with well set hocks. Excellent coat texture. Moved out well on a good stride. 

2nd Bougen’s Gwendariff Lily The Pink (Irish Setter). Excellent overall balance. Typical head, well chiselled beneath the eyes and well defined stop and occiput. Clean neck flowing into well laid shoulder and equal length of upper arm. Deep, narrow chest. Ribs carried well back. Gently sloping topline. Well made hindquarters - long from hip to hock. Moved accurately fore and aft and showed good reach when viewed in profile. In excellent coat and condition.
