Flat Coated Retriever Critique

Junior (3, 0)

1. Gales’ Willowswind Fayetta (AI). Very promising youngster, workmanlike with plenty of breed type. Presented in good coat and condition. Lovely moulded head with a dark eye. Moderate angulation and balanced throughout, short coupled with a level topline and correct tail set. Moved true all ways.

2. Milton’s Manteauplat Montbazillac. Moderate sized dog, in good coat. Masculine head with good reach of neck, well laid shoulder and level topline. Well ribbed up, good depth of chest and balanced angulation. Moved well in profile, just a little bit proud of his tail on the day.

Graduate (6, 4)

1. Cooves’ Pajanbeck I Have A Dream By Draketor. This 3 year old bitch was a little bit out of coat on the day but workmanlike and well-muscled throughout with good bone and feet well rounded. Feminine head, lovely reach of neck into a level topline and correct tail set and carriage. Moved well when settled.

2. Knight’s Ollieart’s Enchantress. Feminine 4 year old bitch, presented in lovely coat. Pretty, moulded head with a good eye and correct dentition. Preferred the width and depth in body of the winner. Moved well in profile, maintaining a correct topline and tail carriage throughout.

Open (5, 3)

I had the opportunity to judge both of these dogs as youngsters and it was a pleasure to be able to judge them again a number of years later. Both have matured beautifully and are a credit to their owners.

1. Gales’ Willowswind Nette Lark JW. Lovely mature bitch, beautifully presented in excellent coat and well-conditioned which was demonstrated in her movement. Nicely moulded head with a dark almond eye and correct dentition, adequate reach of neck flowing well into a level topline and correct tail set. Good depth of chest and well ribbed up with balanced, moderate angulation. Pleased to see her shortlisted in the group. Best of Breed.

2. Bellamy’s Bochilbarley Blue Moon (AI). 6 year old dog, masculine with good bone, rounded feet and a well ribbed up body with correct depth of chest. Head of good length and proportions, well moulded with a dark eye. A bit unsettled on the move initially but moved well when settled in the challenge. Reserve Best of Breed.
