Leeds City & District Canine Association

Breed: Hungarian Puli
Thank you very much to the Leeds Championship Dog Show’s Committee for inviting me to judge my favourite breed and for their help, especially my Stewards, and hospitality on the day. I would also like to thank all of the exhibitors and their dogs for making it such an enjoyable day. Overall, I was pleased with the quality and presentation of the exhibits on the day. When I last judged, many moons ago, I mentioned my concerns about a lack of height in the breed, especially in the males. I was glad to see that the males are slowly getting slightly taller making more of a distinction between the dogs and bitches. I was also glad that the weather held out and we were able to make use of the whole of the big ring which allowed the dogs to settle down and get into their stride; although I think one or two exhibitors weren’t thanking me. On another day, some of the classes could have a different line-up, had to split hairs in some cases. JD (1,0) 1 – Cowley’s Kashbeluli There We Are Then – 17 month old black male who is maturing well. Correct head proportions with good ears and eye set, correct dark eye and pigmentation. Medium length of neck flowing down into a level topline, well laid shoulders, good depth and spring of ribs. Square outline, coat coming on well. Moved with the required quick short-stepping movement once he settled down. Pushed hard for the RCC. PGD (4,0) 1 – Cowley’s Kashbeluli There We Are Then – Was pleased to hear after the judging that this class win gave him enough points to claim his Junior Warrant. 2 – Bird’s Arminhazi Disco (Imp Hun) Ba1 – 20 month old white male with good pigment and of good size. Coat coming on well. Correctly proportioned head set upon a medium length neck leading into well laid shoulders. Ribs of good depth and spring, hindquarters well-muscled with good angles. Out moved by 1. 3 – Lewins’ Pedro Zwierz W Dredach LD (1,0) 1 – Bird’s Silkata What's It All About (Ay2) – 29 month old black male. Good head, dark pigment and eyes, ears well set and the correct scissor bite. Fore and hindquarters with the required angles and well-muscled. Coat at a stage which gave a false impression of him looking a little long when standing on grass. Seemed to be a little unsettled on the move today. OD (6,0) 1 – Grover’s Sinergi Shenanigans At Cordemops - Fully coated 4½ year old black male with well laid shoulders, level top-line leading to a correct tail set. Good front and rear angulation, rib cage well sprung and of correct depth followed by the correct tuck-up. Correctly proportioned head, scissor bite, dark eye, well set ears and good pigmentation. Moved well. Overall a good example of the breed. RCC. 2 – Sharpe & Dyer’s Ch Catsun Comanche Legacy - 6½ year old black male that I judged and really liked as a youngster. My original opinion of him still stands. Correct head proportions, scissor bite, dark eye and good pigmentation. Good front and rear angulation connected by a level topline. My one gripe would be I’d prefer a little more height, but other than that another good example of the breed. 3 – Watts’ Ch Moonshadow Mud Bug (Imp USA) VD (2,0) 1 – Cowley’s Ch Callendu Despicable Me At Kashbeluli Sh.CM ShCE - 9½ year old black male whose movement belied his age, having the typical movement short-stepping gait giving the appearance of floating over the grass. Fully coated in black, but greying, cords in great condition. Head of correct proportions, dark eye, scissor bite and well set ears. Correct length of neck leading onto a level topline. Well laid shoulders, good depth and spring of rib, the desired hindquarters with good muscle and low set hocks. CC. 2 – Hudson’s Weetoneon Jive Bunny – Another 9 year old male who proves that the Puli is a long lasting breed. Fully corded black coat. Good head, correct scissor bite, dark pigment and eyes, ears well set. Although a similar size, I preferred the movement of 1. SBD/BD (1,0) 1 – Lewins’ Pedro Zwierz W Dredach – 4 year old male with a well corded black coat. Dark eye, good pigment, scissor bite. Medium neck, level topline, well laid shoulders, well sprung and depth of ribs, good rear angulation, moved well. JB (2,0) 1 – Mills’ Vilmos Vanja – 12 month old black female whose coat is going through that “explosion” stage. Good head proportions with correct dark eye, scissor bite and pigment. Good angulation both front and rear, overall a nice size for her age and, once she settled down, moved well. 2 - Anderson & Mayne’s Vilmos Viva La Diva – Sister to 1 and showing a lot of the same attributes, although slightly smaller cast. Was also a little unsettled at first but moved well in the end. PGB (3,0) 1 – Grover’s Impeccable Eighth Bouncy Girl At Cordemops (Imp Swe) – 2 year old black female. Correct head proportions with good ears and eye set, correct dark eye and pigmentation, scissor bite. Well laid shoulders, good depth and spring of ribs. Level topline leading to well-muscled hindquarters with low set hocks. Square outline, coat coming on well, moved well. 2 - Gilchrist & Szymkowiak’s Silkata LahLah KuKu – Another 2 year old black female but slightly older than 1 which was evident by her coat being slightly further on in its growth. Good head proportions, scissor bite, dark eye, correctly set ears. Correct fore and hindquarters, good depth and spring of rib, correctly tucked-up stomach. Slightly out moved by 1. 3 – Hallworth’s Ipolyreti Vidam Napsugar (Imp) OB (4,0) 1 – Clarke & Duffy’s Ch Porgeloci Bobe At Peluche (Imp Hun) – 4 year old black female in great condition. Head of correct proportions, dark eye, well set ears, scissor bite and good pigment. Medium length of neck leading into well laid shoulders and a level topline. Ribs of good depth and spring. Hindquarters well put together and well-muscled. Moved with the correct short stepping gait. CC & BOB. I was glad to see she was short-listed in the Group. 2 – Ferrigan’s Ir Ch Kocos-Kinscem Baboca at Zobraki (Imp) – 6 year old fawn female who also has a wonderful coat in excellent condition. Being slightly finer and smaller cast than 1 did not detract from the fact that she is another good example of the breed. Correct head proportions, scissor bite, dark eye and good pigmentation. Good front and rear angulation divided by a good set of ribs and a nicely tucked-up stomach. Moved well. RCC. 3 – Gilchrist’s Silkata Sosumi VB (1,0) 1 – Knight’s Ch Weetoneon Polly Flinders - 10½ year old black female whose movement, as with the Veteran Dog, belied her age. Head of correct proportions, dark eye, scissor bite and well set ears. Correct length of neck leading onto a level topline. Well laid shoulders, good depth and spring of rib, well-muscled hindquarters with all the correct angles. Judge – William Fulton (Cordanté)
