Toy Group

My sincere thanks go to the Officers and Committee of Midland Counties Canine Society for the invitation to judge the Toy Group. I thought it was a high-quality group, many of the dogs I have judged before and several have had top honours from me. I thank the breed judges for giving me such a great selection to choose from. In addition to the four principal winners, I also shortlisted the saucy and showy Chihuahua (Smooth Coat), the very glamourous and typical Lowchen (Little Lion Dog) and the beautiful Papilllon.

My Group winner was Watkins and Bugden’s Miniature Pinscher, Ch Hawksflight Hot Pursuit JW. The only one of the top four that I haven’t judged before. I have admired him from the ringside since he first came out and I was not disappointed upon handling him. A real stallion who combines masculinity and elegance. Short coupled and beautifully balanced with a very precise, hackney action. I thought he was very special.

Group 2 was the Pug, Ch Taftazini Nepalensis JW, owned by Mrs S Farnworth. My BOB winner earlier this year and I described him then as the complete package! He was unlucky to meet Hot Pursuit today. He has the most perfect masculine head. Cobby and very compact, he is so impressive on the move. His clever handler has a great rapport with him and he really does show to great advantage.

In third place I had the young C.K.C.S. Inglis’ Verheyen Reacher at Craigowl. I judged him fairly recently and though he didn’t win the CC that day I thought he was lovely, he is continuing to develop nicely. Masculine with a soft, gentle expression and excellent pigmentation. Completely unexaggerated and very well made. Presents a perfect outline. A top class Cavalier.

Cawthera-Purdy’s Pomeranian Ch Lireva's Wildest Dreams, was my choice for the fourth place. His harsh double coat is a lovely clear colour. Very neat ears, fine muzzle. Excellent forehand, compact and well ribbed with high set, well carried tail. Sound and free moving. He too has a great rapport with his talented handler.
