Driffield Championship Dog Show

Breed: Hungarian Puli

Thank you so much to the officers and committee for their kind invitation to judge Hungarian Puli at this show and their hospitality on the day as well as my stewards, Emma and Sue and the exhibitors for their support. I was delighted with my entry of 14, with only 2 absentees on the day.

1st: COWLEY, Mrs and Mr LJ and KD Ch Callendu Despicable Me At Kashbeluli Sh.CM ShCE, 9 ½ year old black dog in excellent condition. He has a super square outline, with a firm and level topline. Head is of good size with a slightly domed skull and strong muzzle of correct proportions, lovely bright eye, excellent bite and pigmentation. A lovely neck set correctly flows into a well laid-back shoulder with good return of upper arm with strong legs and good feet. His back is broad as is his short loin with good depth of chest. Hind quarters are in balance with his front which combined allowed him to move briskly with typical short steps and drive from the rear. As expected in a mature adult, coat fully corded and in excellent condition. Best Dog, Best of Breed and Best Veteran in Breed. Thank you for bringing him.

2nd: 3856 UDSON, Mr Mrs M C Weetoneon Jive Bunny, another black 9-year-old with a lot to like. He has good head properties with correct proportions between skull and muzzle and a good underjaw, a lovely dark eye and correct pigmentation. Shoulders are well laid back with good return of upper arm and matching hind angulation giving balance on the move. Back of correct length to give a square outline with short, strong loin and a level topline which was held on the move. I preferred the slightly longer length of neck on my winner.

1st: LE COMPTE, Mr D Harangod-Videki Pasztor Suba (Imp Hun), a delightful 7-month-old white dog with a lot of character. From the front, a typical round head and a bright, twinkling eye. Muzzle of correct proportion to skull of good shape. Super, square outline with a level back and good depth of chest, short hocks and good bone. I'd prefer a touch more neck and a bit more angulation front and rear. Balanced on the move and was true coming and going. Best Puppy in Breed.

1st: LEWINS, Mr J Pedro Zwierz W Dredach, a 4-year-old black dog I judged last year. He has good head properties with skull and muzzle in balance, good bite and pigmentation. Excellent neck of good length set at the required 45 degrees angle flowing into well laid shoulders with excellent return of upper arm. Back is strong and level, although he is a touch long in loin so is slightly longer than ideal. His movement has really improved since last time I saw him, well done to his handler in finding his pace as he moved with drive from the rear whilst keeping his topline well on the move. Sadly, his handler didn't return when called at the end to be declared BSB so this could not be awarded.

1st: COWLEY, Mrs and Mr LJ and KD Kashbeluli There We Are Then, a black dog just out of junior and sired by my BOB. His slightly domed skull has a muzzle of correct proportions, good bite and pigmentation and a lovely dark eye. Super reach of neck set correctly onto well laid shoulder with good return of upper arm, straight legs and good feet. Strong, level back with short loin and good depth of chest and good rear angulation. Coat of good texture and starting to cord nicely. Moved very typically with short steps and drive.

2nd: HUDSON, Mr Mrs M C Mournebrake Archangel, a fawn dog of similar age. Good head properties with a slightly domed skull and good eye. Slightly longer in muzzle than the winner and a touch longer in body. Super neck of good length set well into a firm back and level topline, well angulated front and rear. Had a tendency to pace, but when he found his stride, moved well. Coat also starting to cord nicely.

1st: MILLS, Miss Amanda Ludas Matyi Aladar (Imp), 3-year-old black dog. His head appears round from the front with a skull of good size and shape and well-proportioned muzzle, good bite and pigmentation with a dark, lively eye of correct shape. Neck of good length set at 45 degrees to a well laid shoulder and elbows under the withers. Firm back with short loin and level topline giving a square outline, excellent rear angulation balanced with the front and good feet. Lovely movement with a short, lively stride and drive from the rear. Well-developed cords of good texture completed the picture. Reserve Best Dog.

2nd: SCRUTTON, Mrs Marilyn Black'n Blue's Ready To Rock With Gemeau (Imp Dnk), 6-year-old black dog with good head properties, although I would have preferred a slightly shorter muzzle. Lovely eye and good pigmentation. In profile, a good outline with moderate neck and good angulation front and rear which gave a lovely action on the move. Preferred the topline of the winner.

3rd: WATTS, Miss Hannah Ch Moonshadow Mud Bug (Imp USA)

Sired by my RBD, here were 2 litter sisters, which surprised me as they are quite different to each other. 1st: MILLS, Miss Amanda Vilmos Vanja, nearly 13 months black. She has good head properties with well-proportioned muzzle and nice eye. Enough neck, well laid shoulder and return of upper arm. Strong back and short loin to give a square outline and good hind angulation. Coat is at ‘that stage’ where it looks quite profuse as is just starting to cord, which made her topline difficult to assess but it appears level. Moved well. Reserve Best Bitch.

2nd: ANDERSON, Mrs J & MAYNE, Miss L Vilmos Viva La Diva, smaller than her sister and slightly longer in muzzle. Good length to height properties with a level back, but I would have preferred better angulation front and rear. Less coat than her sister but it is starting to cord nicely and doesn't hide her shape.

1st: WATTS, Miss Hannah Moonshadow Causa Commotion At Cordmoor (Imp USA), 4-year-old black bitch with full cords of correct texture. She has a lovely head with a slightly domed skull of good size, lovely eye and strong muzzle of good proportion. Correct, square outline with neck of good length set correctly into a well laid shoulder and level back and excellent topline. I would have preferred slightly more return of upper arm. She has a good depth of chest and super hind quarters and moved briskly with drive covering the ground with ease. Best Bitch.
