My first Championship show appointment. Thank you to the club for inviting me to judge at your 60th anniversary championship show. A lovely well run show with a good atmosphere and we even had some dry sunny weather after all those weeks of rain. My sincere thanks to my stewards for your efficiency and to the exhibitors for your entry, I was delighted to be able to find some quality bitches and was pleased with my line up.

Limit Bitch (18,2a)

A lovely class

1 Minchella’s Abbeystead Psion of Haselorhill 5 year old classic black. Feminine head, good planes to her skull with the right amount of stop & muzzle length. Kind eye and expression. She had a lovely flow down her reachy neck, over clean shoulders into a level topline. Well angulated front. She stood over a lot of ground on well boned legs of good length into tidy feet. Good spring of rib, well bodied and ribbed back. Short, dense coat, close to her body and this was reflected in her otter tail. While her rear may not be everyone's cup of tea, being straighter than the modern sort, it did it’s job well, driving her round with good extension, (especially in the challenge), she covered the ground easily and smoothly. A beautiful typy bitch, she had the leg length, size and substance, while retaining a clean outline. She was in fit condition and in full bloom. A credit to her owner for presenting her in such good nick. CC, her third.

2 Bradley’s Nancy’s Special Treasure Substantial young black. Head stronger than my ideal when viewed from the front, but in profile she had good length of muzzle with the right amount of stop. Enough neck and good angles fore and aft. Deep chested, very well sprung ribs and short coupled, she was strong over her loin and well muscled in rear quarters. Well boned. Carried a short, very dense, coat with a nice harsh feel to it and a wrapped tail. Another in full bloom who moved well off that powerful rear.

3 Grinham’s Frant Edith Durham

Open Bitch (12,2a)

1 Carpanini’s SH CH Carpenny Berry Compact sort of typy black, had all the breed essentials of head, coat and tail. Good length of muzzle, correct stop and a kind expression. Enough neck into a well angled front, very good spring of rib, strong over loin with good quarters. Quite deep in body, but she had the right amount of leg to balance her. Lovely bone and a good coat which was harsh feeling in texture and she had a good otter tail. Moved well.

2 Minchella’s Abbeystead Hope Upstanding, substantially built black. Lovely head, good length of muzzle. Another with that sweep down her neck, over shoulder into topline. Well laid shoulders, could do with a fraction more angle to the upper arm, but it had good length. Barrelled ribs, short coupled and she had a well muscled rear. Very good length of leg, good bone and tidy feet. Moved soundly with drive and carried a good coat and tail.

A very honest sort, she presented a picture of balance. Coat good and moved true.

2 Venturi Rose’s Leospring East Indie A scopy upstanding chocolate. Good head proportions with length of muzzle, her eye is a tad light in colour but it didn’t detract her expression. Good neck , well laid shoulder and a level topline. Stood on legs of good length with good bone. Enough coat. She was strong over the loin, good musculature to rear, in fit condition and moved out well.

3 Manning’s Overmarsh Sixpence

1 Hodge’s CH Naiken Etoile (ai) Sturdily built chocolate Feminine head with good eye colour. Enough neck, good angles fore and aft. Good bone and a lovely short dense coat with an otter tail. She was a powerful mover, taking in a lot of ground with extension and drive.

2 Coode’s Warringah’s Gulwarra JW SGWC Well built chocolate. Lovely head and length of muzzle with a good eye colour. Good reach of neck into a well made front, well sprung ribs, short coupled and well boned legs of good length. She carried a good short, dense coat with a wrapped tail.
