Thank you to the officers and committee of Crufts for inviting me to judge my first love Afghan Hounds, it is 33 years since I gave my first set of CCs in the breed, we have seen many changes over the years with imports from far and wide. Presentation was excellent and temperament too was very good, I was looking for a well constructed dog with good breed type and a ‘style of high order’, the Limit and Open classes were abundant with beautiful hounds with not enough prize cards to go round but where are the youngsters? Still the old problem of upright shoulders and narrow fronts, untypical heads with little underjaw, the lovely ring tails or doughnut tails are becoming a rarity, a few overweight dogs but many more terribly thin ones which doesn’t do them justice at this level of competition, thank you to all the exhibitors for bringing your lovely hounds for me to lay my hands upon, I truly enjoyed spending my day with you all, also a big thank you to my stewards on the day who kept the ring running smoothly.
