Australian Shepherd Dog

It has been a long time since I judge Aussies, back in 2017 so it was nice to have a completely new set of dogs, so thank you for those who entered. A breed I have seen change and grow over the 23 years I have been around them and I have to say that I was pleased with what I found. Type has settled a lot compared to those early days, heads in general were good as were teeth. Movement was generally good with quite a few dogs with correct profile gait. Remember, faster isn’t always better. They should have a “moderate length of stride without exaggeration”.

Veteran Dog (3,1)
1st Scanlan’s Mistyholly Blues Brother of Franmar ShCM. 8yr Blue Merle. Loved him for type and overall shape. Super head of correct proportions, well set ears and an attentive expression. Moderate length of neck into well laid shoulders with nice forechest. Good bone, a little down on his pasterns. Correct depth and spring of rib under a level topline to a moderately angled rear. Moved true with the correct amount of drive. BV
2nd Lee’s Louis Blanchette at Amenbury. 9yr Blue Merle & different to 1, longer through head and body. Good neck into well laid shoulders with good bone and feet. Well sprung ribs and ribbed well back. Good rear angles and moved well

Minor Puppy Dog (4,0)
What a lovely class. Four litter brothers having fun in the sun.
1st Burt’s Aussiame Hot to Trot. This 6mth Black Tri came out on top. Scored well for type, best of heads with dark eyes. Good neck into well made forequarters. Lovely bone and neat feet. Nice level topline with correct tail set and carriage. Super rear angles and a good mover. Very nice baby.
2nd Dart’s Aussiame Flaming Slate. Blue Merle. Similar shape as his brother but finer through head and muzzle. Well made forequarters with lovely forechest. Good bone and feet. Correct depth and spring of rib, short loin and correct rear angles. Moved well although tail carriage spoils his outline for me.

1st Land & Gittins’ Soloyal Kiss Artist Around Casmawllan 9mth Red Tri. Good overall shape with a lovely head of correct shape and proportions. Well made forequarters and good amount of straight bone and sufficient forechest. Well sprung ribs of good depth through a short loin to a very vell angled rear. Would like stronger colour. Steady mover with correct reach and drive. Just had the type and maturity to beat the MP for BPD

1st Wray-Ramsden’s Caronlea Celtic Fire Starter for Takhisis JW (ai) (IKC). Red Tri, very clean outline of correct shape and proportions. Love his head and expression. Super forequarters with well laid shoulders, good forechest, nice bone and neat feet. Deep ribs, well spring and back to a short loin under a level topline to a natural bob tail. Correct angles to rear. Super easy true mover with correct reach and drive
2nd Hunt’s Shepwood Grey Knight 2yr Blue Merle. Nice outline of good shape. Heavier across the skull but correct proportions. Well made forequarters, good spring of rib under a level back to a well angled rear. Another correct mover.

What a lovely Trio of dogs.
1st Hellewell’s Franmar The Thriller. 4yr Blue Merle of lovely type. Correct size and shape. Super head or correct breadth, shape and proportions. Moderate neck, excellent forequarters with well laid shoulders, correct bone and tidy feet. Level topline over deep well sprung ribs, short loin to a well angled rear. Best mover, true from all angles with lovely foot placements and correct reach and drive. Thoroughly deserving of the RCC
2nd Knott’s Shalako's Come Hellr High Water (Imp USA) 3yr Red Tri. Smaller type but with a correct outline and shape. Correct head proportions with moderate neck to very well made forequarters, good bone and feet. Level topline over deep ribs and short loin. Another correct mover.
3rd Lee’s Aoiristar Hunters Moon over Amenbury (imp)

1st Raymond, Shaw & Kirtley’s Ch Brighttouch Drift The Line Through Dialynne (Imp Rus) 2yr Blue Merle. Super clean lines of good proportions. Gorgeous head with correct proportions. Good length of neck into super forequarters with well laid shoulders, good bone and neat feet. Deep ribs with good spring under a lovely topline. Correct rear angles with good bend of stifle. Such a true correct mover. Stands out from the crowd. CC & BOB
2nd Milligan & Marley’s Allmark One for The Road with Alfsden 3yr Black Tri. Another of super shape and type. Correct through head into neck and well made forequarters. Good bone and feet. well sprung ribs under a level back to a moderately angled rear. Moved well.
3rd Lee’s Villanyda Wizards Apprentice for Amenbury (Imp Esp)

Special Beginners (1,0)
1st Chave’s Amberslade Heart of Fire. 2yr Blue Mearl D. A young D with some maturing still needed. Quite long cast that is exaggerated by being out of coat today. Pleasing head although ears a little fly away. Well made forequarters, level topline and good rear. Moved well especially in front. BSB

Minor Puppy Bitch (3,1)
1st Lee’s Aussiame Flaming Auror at Horcrux A sweet 6mth Red Tri. Feminine throughout, pleasing head. Well made forequarters with good bone and feet. Good spring of rib and nice rear angles, standing a little bum high today. Good type, moved well.
2nd King & Myall’s Altussi All That Razzmatazz. 6mth Black Tri who is finer throughout. Pleasing head and neck into well made forequarters. Level topline but a little longer through body than most. Moderate rear. Moved well

Puppy Bitch (3,0)
1st Raymond’s Dialynne Heist Society (ai) . 11mth Black Tri and what a sweetie. Lovely head, well proportioned with a sweet expression. Super forequarters with forechest, good bone and tidy feet. Level topline over well sprung ribs to a moderate rear. If I were being picky, I would like a little less length but so many good qualities. Best mover in the youngsters. BP and pleased to hear she won the Puppy Group
2nd Lee’s Villanyda Witches Moon (Imp Esp) 11mth Red Merle. Pleasing through head and neck into good shoulders with nice forechest. Correct overall shape with level back and short loin over well sprung ribs. Moderate rear but lacking muscle. Moved with lots of rear extension but a little close.

Junior Bitch (1,0)
1st Milligan & Marley’s Alfsden She's The One. 14mth Black Tri who was so naughty on the stand but much better on the move. Feminine head of correct proportions and a naughty glint in her eyes. Good length of neck to well laid shoulders. Front pasterns need strengthening. well sprung ribs under a level topline to a well set tail that she does carry a little high for me. Correct rear angles and a super mover.

Yearling Bitch (1,0)
1st Scanlan’s Franmar Blue Mystique. A very typey 22mth Blue Merle. Liked her type and outline. Super head on a good neck into well laid shoulders. Level back and deep ribs through to a correctly angled rear. Lovely mover, true, free with correct reach and drive.

1st Scanlan’s Franmar Blue Mystique. 1st Yearling
2nd Bassett’s Dialynne Leave Your Mark at Starlink. 2yr Red Tri. Built on finer lines but still says ‘Aussie’. A little madam on the stand with a pleasing head. Correct neck into well laid shoulders and enough forechest. Good bone and feet. Well sprung ribs to short loin and good rear angles. Moved well with Moderate reach and drive.
3rd King’s Altussi Aryan Mist

Limit Bitch (5,2)
1st Milligan & Marley’s Allmark On One Hand with Alfsden. Litter sister to 2nd in OD with many of the same qualities. Lovely type with a correctly proportioned head. Correct neck into super forequarters with good forechest, good bone and feet. Deep ribs of correct spring through to a short loin under a level topline. Correct rear angles and a super mover, free, true and correct reach and drive. CC & BOS
2nd Scanlan’s Jotars Reach for The Stars with Franmar. Similar in type to 1st this 2yr Red Merle has a lot to like. Another good head and neck with well made forequarters. Level topline over deep well-sprung ribs, short loin to a moderate rear. A touch overweight today and a little sluggish on the move.
3rd Land & Gittins’ Soloyal Storyteller for Casmawllan

Open Bitch (4,0)
1st Gibbons & Satherley’s Wispafete Belongs to Music JW. A lovely typey 2yr Blue Merle B who at first decided she didn’t want to show. Once she relented she was lovely to go over, good type and shape, super head and lots of attitude. Correct neck into super forequarters with well laid shoulders, good forechest, nice bone and feet. Well sprung ribs of good depth through to a short loin and correct rear angles. She is a lovely mover, true and typey, without exaggeration. RCC.
2nd Gibbons & Blyton’s Wispafete Light My Fire 3yr Red Merle. Feminine B with a pleasing head of correct proportions. Good neck into well made forequarters. Level topline over well sprung ribs. Correct rear and another good mover.
