Having spent many years owning, handling, living with, learning this breed and being a KC mentor, this is actually only my second time awarding CC's in them. I was pleased with the entry size which was average for these days. My stewards, Hilary and Marcia, were both efficient and humorous. There is a huge variety being shown at present but please remember the basics of the breed, their action should not be impeded by too much coat, especially when the grass may not be in favour, pigment is absolutely essential and I like their personality to show through. I am not a tear stain freak, they can be managed but I will not unduly penalise if they are heavy. They should be cobby with decent bone not just at the top end of the standard, which allows for Maltese to be up to 10 inches. A smaller dog should still carry substance and feel like a substantial dog when you get your hands under the coat.

1st: 1984 HUTCHINSON, Miss/Mrs M & J Damount You're Best Kosmo at Areown imp Ltv naf 9 months, balanced in head with good mouth, correct oval eye and good pigment with required halos and dark pads. Of reasonable proportions, lacking weight and I would prefer an overall cobbier dog with more bone. Coat is fine and of good length for age. Alert on the move.
Class 631 JD NO ENTRIES
Class 632 PGD (2 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 1976 FOSTER, Mrs Tracy Prince Valentino 18 months, a male of good size covered in a coat silky coat. His dark eyes are a little large and I would prefer more fill underneath. Good stop, mouth ok. Medium length of neck, standing holds his shape. I would prefer more chest and spring of rib, rear angulation good. Moves steadily holding topline.
Class 633 LD NO ENTRIES
Class 634 OD (5 Entries) Abs: 2
1st: 1986 JACKSON, miss Sarah & WYLIE, mrs Andrea Benatone jubilee party, this boy is presented by one of the masters of this breed and her presentation skills should be commended. A masculine head, well-proportioned with slightly rounded skull, dark eye of reasonable shape and dark pigment. He is broad and well balanced throughout and drives well with movement not impeded by coat which was thick and well presented. Standing and moving he uses his neck giving proud carriage and alert outlook. He is not fully mature and gave way to the bitch for best of breed today. DCC
2nd: 1991 URQUHART, Mr Gordon J Blackpark Polar Bear, 3-year-old dog who has a masculine proportions to head with width to muzzle & good shape to eyes and desired pigment. Chest is both broad and deep, well ribbed back and good bone. He is confident on the move once settled, perhaps a little too much lift in front but at least parallel. Does not carry the coat of some in terms of texture and volume but is a work in progress. RCC
3rd: 1975 FLANNIGAN, Miss S & DORNAN, Mrs Amy Snowkai's Piano Man
Class 635 VB (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 1979 GRANT, Mrs Catherine & GRANT, Mr R & WALKER, Mrs J Ch Travilla Chic And Petite with Linmont - at 10 years old this bitch is presented in first class order and retains such a ladylike appearance. She has dark oval expressive eyes, well set with good stop, for me could perhaps be a little shorter in foreface, ears high set and well feathered. Covered in a silky coat of pure white she moved steadily. BVIB
Class 636 PB (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 1978 GRANT, Mrs Catherine & GRANT, Mr Raymond Snowkai Perfect Sky TFA, 7 month old and already well-schooled, she has a balanced head with good pigment, halos, and mouth, gently rounded skull and low set ears. Well boned and coat of good length for age. A good spring of rib, I would prefer a little shorter in back, overall good bone and balanced from all angles. Happy to make her BPIB.
2nd: 1977 FOSTER, Mrs Tracy & FOSTER, Miss Tanika TOMARI SNOW WHITE BELLE, she has good pigment to her body but it was lacking on points. Very feminine in her expression, I would like a larger eye but better halos would enhance. Not the best of fronts but this lady moved happily for her handler and is of good size.
Class 637 JB (3 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 1990 STONER, Mrs Keri Kericrest's On Thin Ice, a strongly built bitch with broad head, good stop, gently rounded skull and dark eyes well set giving desired expression. Good mouth. She has a good amount of bone and is well ribbed. Would prefer a silkier coat texture however it is of good length for age.
2nd: 1983 HUTCHINSON, Miss/Mrs M & J DAMOUNT JULLALUX AT AREOWN (imp LTV) a finer bitch than first and was not holding her topline standing today. She is a little longer in fore-face, has nice pigment all through and dark eyes of good shape. Moved well fore and aft, I just need there to be more of her all through for me.
Class 638 PGB (4 Entries) Abs: 2
1st: 1988 LEES, Mrs Carol Lafford Beauty Queen, her head is gently rounded with a well defined stop and all is correctly proportioned, ear set a little high, eyes are dark, of good oval shape and good mouth. Enough body and balanced from all angles. Tail set and carriage is good, moved soundly with her silky coat flowing.
2nd: 1983 HUTCHINSON, Miss/Mrs M & J DAMOUNT JULLALUX AT AREOWN (imp LTV)
Class 639 LB (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 1985 JACKSON, miss Sarah & JACKSON, mrs Rosemarie Benatone jubilee star 16m sister to DCC, not as mature yet. Broad in head, good stop, pretty and feminine, nice mouth and pigment. Stacked she has a reachy length of neck but she lost this some on the move. She is most definately alert with a cheeky attitude, well ribbed with good body and well set tail.
2nd: 1989 STONER, Mrs Keri Kericrest's Kit And Caboodle, finer all through than first, nose pigment a bit off but otherwise well pigmented throughout. Pretty oval eyes set into balanced head. She has a good silky coat. Well set and carried tail, moved confidently.
Class 640 OB (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 1993 WELBOURN, Miss N & GILLIES, Mrs C R Ch Delcost Centrefold it is no secret that this bitch has dominated the breed. Yes, she is exceptionally pretty because her head proportions are as required, she is balanced without exaggeration and ultimately feminine. Her skull is gently rounded with the most beautiful dark oval eyes and amazing pigment. Her muzzle is broad and stop well defined with a slightly shorter nose to stop than from stop to occiput. Bite good and clean dentition. She has sufficient bone, good spring of rib, excellent rear angulation and a top-line which does not falter. It is when she moves that she really comes alive, her reach and drive are very hard to match, and her handler has to go some to keep up with her, yet it never seems rushed. Her neck is of lovely length, and she really uses it giving herself the prettiest outline. Her coat is one of pure silk, not too much of it; beautifully and naturally presented. She conquered all this weekend, BCC, BOB, Group 1 and ultimately BEST IN SHOW.
2nd: 1974 FLANNIGAN, Miss S & DORNAN, Mrs Amy Snowkai's eternal star a heavier bitch than first, very broad through skull and muzzle, good dentition, dark eyes that I would prefer less full to give a softer expression. She has thick bone and is cobby with a good chest, could have tighter elbows, moves with drive going away. She retained her outline standing and moving but I would prefer more length of neck for balance, good tail set and carriage. Full, heavy coat which was well presented. She was sympathetically handled. RCC.
