WEST HIGHLAND WHITE TERRIERS

This was my first time awarding CC’s to Westies and I thoroughly enjoyed the day. The numbers are sadly down from what they used to be although there was enough quality in the entry to make it interesting. BOB and the best veteran both placed in their groups and the best puppy made the cut so the quality was clearly there. Thank you to all the exhibitors for the entries and sportsmanship and a big thank you to my efficient and very pleasant stewards Gale Courtney- Boughan and Lindsay Marshall.

A good one to start with and not surprised that he has his title. Masculine boy, good size, decent bone, lovely head and good front. A little narrow behind . Well handled and presented. Delighted to hear that he won the veteran terrier group.

Very promising youngster who is indeed in fine fettle. Lovely outgoing temperament and has a super outline with correct proportions. He’s only a baby, so still has to develop in head but he has the makings of a good head, super forehand, lovely neck, holds his top line both standing and moving with tail bang on top. Nice and free moving in all directions. Very promising indeed. Best puppy and deserved his shortlist in the puppy group.

This boy had a good head and was well coated. He could do with more angulation back and front, which would give him a better outline and movement. Delightful temperament.

Interesting contest between these two junior boys. This one excelled in bone and was very masculine both in head and overall body. I liked his ribbing and his proportions. Good outline and moved well in front, a little close behind

2nd: OWEN, Mr S J Egremont Male Order:

Typy boy with a decent head and moved quite well. In stance he was a bit slack in topline. Held it better on the move.

Another interesting contest between first and second here. This one was the better mover, he carried himself well and possesses a decent topline. Handled well on the table, good temperament and is quite showy. Could maybe have just a little more bone and substance. His soundness and showy nature earned him the Res CC in the challenge.

2nd: GALE, Miss K Bellevue Street Trader

This one caught my eye on the way in. I liked his bone and masculinity, good double coat and well prepared, just not as pleasing as the winner on the move.

Eye-catching boy with a beautiful outline which he holds both standing and moving. Moved very true in front and quite well behind. Tail bang on. He’s still young so there is better to come yet. Lovely head and expression. Well presented which was the icing on the cake. CC.

2nd: JASPER, Ms A M Clavelshay Montmorency:

Nice boy and not disgraced. Moved ok, decent outline, was quite strong in head. Good body and ribbing.

From the same kennel as the minor puppy dog and quite similar remarks apply. Lovely temperament, super and outgoing, clean in front, nice topline and tail. Still has plenty of maturing to do and is just starting to learn her job. Very promising. Best puppy bitch.

This nine month old girl was full of the joys of spring. Typy, decent outline, was not really cooperating on the move but possesses a good clean front and I saw the makings of a good rear. Will need to develop in head.

Nice sized girl. Looked better standing as she lost her outline a bit on the move and had a low set tail. Lovely temperament.

Good proportions and good attitude. Could do with better rear angulation which spoilt her movement.

1st: BURNS, Miss M Burneze Hello Dolly

This one was very typy. Super outline, good tail set and carriage, correct proportions, lovely temperament and good in front. Could strengthen a little in rear.

2nd: NOYCE, Mr D & NOYCE, Mrs M Maxula Vanilla Ice Cream

A typy girl and not disgraced standing behind the winner. Good proportions and ok in coat. Would like just a little more head.

This was an interesting class and gave me some food for thought.

The first was the overall picture. She came into the ring meaning business showing off her good outline and good proportions with tail on top. On examination she possessed a good head feminine but with enough strength, lovely neck and shoulders, good forehand, firm topline and correct angulation. Lovely double coat, well presented and well handled. Won a well deserved CC and maturity carried the day in the contest for BOB. I was delighted to see her place 2nd second in the terrier group under a Westie expert.

2nd: FOX, Mrs Kirsten Elisabeth & FOX, Mr John Hillsted Sweet Whispers

I really liked this girl and the more I looked at her the more I liked her. Great attitude. Nice headed girl, decent outline, good proportions with good coupling. Was a bit of a handful but that was the terrier in her and she moved well. Her quality won her the Res CC and I would hope that she makes up as she is of champion quality.
