Gundog Breeds Association of Scotland Championship Show 11/11/23
Retrievers (Labrador) – Dogs
Judge: Mrs Patricia Ayres (Musubi)
It was an honour to be invited to judge Labrador Dogs at the Gundog Breeds Association of Scotland. This was also my first appointment at a Championship Show and was delayed from 2020 because of Covid, but was worth the wait.
I would like to thank the committee and my stewards, Morag McQuade and Philip Martin for enabling the show to be run efficiently making it even more enjoyable for me.
Overall, the dogs were of good quality and it was nice to see a good length of leg coming back and fewer dogs carrying too much weight.

1st. PERCIVAL, Mrs M. Teazledown Mystery By Wynfaul
Another nice youngster from this kennel. He had a beautiful head and expression; his front and rear angulation was good and a good reach of neck in to a level top line (which he held on the move) finished with a correct tail set. This was all supported on tidy tight feet which all enabled him to move steadily.
2nd. LEWIS, Miss L. Crammondirk’s Custom Made.
A black with a pleasing head looking at me with a kind expression. He had a good reach of neck and was correct through the shoulders and a level top line standing on tight feet moved well. He was bit fidgety, but as he develops and settles, I look forward to seeing him again in the future. A close decision between 1st.

A strongly built yellow boy with an excellent head, good front and rear angulations. A level top line (which he held on the move) in to a good tail set, stood on nice tight feet. I have admired this puppy for a while now and he was well worth best puppy dog and subsequently best puppy in breed.

A yellow boy who looked at me with a kind head and expression supported by a good reach of neck on well-placed shoulders. He had a level top line in to a lovely otter tail and it was pleasing to see a good length of leg. He portrayed balance and moved well with drive.
2nd. SMITH, Miss C Potterzuri Mister Pumbaa of Flyenpyg
This dog was smaller in type to 1. However, he had a nicely shaped head, adequate through the neck and forehand with a level top line. Again, adequate rear quarters, but moved with a positive action.

This dog showed a lot of exuberance for the handler and he thoroughly enjoyed his day out. He looked at me with a kind masculine head, but not overdone and a kind expression. He had a good reach of neck set on well-placed shoulders. His level top line went into a nice otter tail all sat on legs of a good length.
2nd. GALIANO, Sir Franco Ettore Friend Dei Due Mari
This dog made my decision difficult as to place first or second. He had a kind head and expression with a clean strong reach of neck in to a level top line. Good rear angulations, nice length of leg and moved well. I just preferred the front angulations of 1st.

This black presented a good clean outline of good type. He had an excellent reach of neck and front and rear angulations. His level top line finished with a correct otter tail. Short coupled, nicely ribbed standing four square on tidy tight feet. He moved with drive and according to my notes, “A lot to like.” I was pleased to award him RCC.
2nd TULLOCH, Mrs D Tullochmohr Final Hurrah
Larger type to 1, but still all there with a kind head and eye. Good neck and shoulders, deep in the chest with a firm level top line. Good bone and nice feet. He needed to settle on the move.

This black boy is just my type! I loved his ring presence and he was very attentive to his handler. He had a very clean outline overall and an attractive head, but not overdone. Lovely reach of neck in to well placed shoulders and was constructed very well throughout. He displayed a level top line in to a well-placed otter tail. He had a good length of length standing on nice tight feet. He was well balanced throughout which enabled him to cover the ground with ease. In my opinion he is fit for purpose and was honoured to award him the CC and later he was awarded BOB on the referee’s decision.
