Gundog Breeds Assoc of Scotland 11th November 2023 – Judge: Nigel Worth

I would like to thank the Officers and Committee of Gundog Breeds Association of Scotland for their kind invitation to judge English Setters with CCs at this show. I was really pleased with both the number and quality of the entry. A big thank you to my steward who worked efficiently and tirelessly all day

English Setters

Puppy Dog (3,0)

1st: Arkley’s Tattersett Blue Lord. Quality puppy who is maturing nicely. lovely head of correct proportions with typical dark eye expression. Good length to neck, well made shoulders and good rear angulation. Balanced throughout. Good bone. Such a happy mover, very sound for age. Kept topline firm on the move. In good coat and condition.

2nd: Vallence’s Ennydloc Yorkshire Liaison to Rowanmyle, another smart puppy, slightly taller than winner but again a balanced picture when stood. Good length of neck. Good front and rear, mature body for age. In good coat and condition. just not as strong on the move as winner today.

3rd: Colton’s Ennydloc Belles and Whistles

Yearling Dog (2,1)

1st: Williams’ Bournehouse Abracadabra. This young dog is right up my street. Absolutely gorgeous head and expression, strong neck of good length. Excellent lay of shoulders, straight front, good bone and feet. Mature body with good depth and well sprung ribs. Plenty of forechest. Strong, muscular loin, well angled stifle which enabled him to move very freely and soundly. In excellent coat and condition. pushed hard for the CC but had to give way to the more mature open winner, so Res CC today but his day cannot be far away.

2nd: Snook’s Moorbrook Mogul Of March. Masculine head and expression. Enough neck, good angles front and back. Mature body and nice outline when stood. Would prefer better feet and not as strong as winner on the move today.

Post Graduate Dog ( (3,1)

1st: Thomson’s Maursett Morganite For Caspellwynd. 2 ½ year old dog with pleasing head and expression. Good length to neck, lovely topline. Mature body with good spring to rib. Well made angles front and rear,lovely bone. Moved really well. In good coat and condition.

2nd: Carr’s Balvenie Blue lagoon. Another really well presented dog in good coat and condition. masculine head, lovely length of neck, correct topline. Balanced throughout. Well made front and rear. Mature in body. Moving a little close behind today.

Limit Dog (5,2)

1st: Vallance’s Rowanmyle Was A Skellum. Another I liked for overall type. masculine head and expression. Good length to neck. Well angled shoulders, straight front, good bone, well angled rear, mature body of good depth with well sprung rib. Balanced outline when stood. Good topline which he held solid on the move. Moved soundly with drive.

2nd: Snook’s Dalreavock Northern Caper. Well proportioned head with lovely expression. Strong neck, good front and back. Lovely bone. Mature body and shown in good coat and condition. lost out on movement today to the winner

3rd: Simpson’s Dalreavock Northern Legend

Open Dog (5,1)

1st: Danks-Kemish’s Sh Ch Ravensett Work Of Art At Alofrana JW.This dog really caught my eye on entering the ring. Such a lovely dog to go over, quality from nose to tail. Loved his head and expression. Good length to neck, set in well placed shoulders. Straightest of fronts, good bone and feet. Strong back end, well angled. Good width to loin. Mature body, good forechest, good depth and spring to rib. Shown in fabulous coat and condition.Presented beautifully. Moved effortlessly around the ring keeping topline solid. Sound front and back. Dog CC

2nd: Johnston’s Wansleydale Beguiled of Loonbrae. Pleading head and expression. Good neck, straightest of fronts. Enough rear angulation. Mature body and correct topline. Not as strong as winner today on the move.

3rd: Thomson’s Bushbane Rathlin Caspellwynd

Spec Beginners Dog ( 2,0)

1st: Carr’s Balvenie Blue lagoon. 2nd in Post Grad dog

2nd: Snook’s Moorbrook Mogul of March. 2nd in Yearling dog

Puppy Bitch (1.0)

1st: Paton’s Bournehouse Eternal Flame for Meadowfoot. Stood alone but such a worthy winner. Quality puppy who had everything you would want at this age. Feminine head, lovely expression. Good neck and shoulders, straight front, good bone. Well angled rear. Lovely outline when stood. Maturing nicely. In excellent coat and condition for age. Moved exceptionally well for one so young very soundly both ways and really enjoying her day out.. One with an excellent future. Best Puppy in Breed.

Yearling Bitch (4,0)

1st: Howarth’s Moorbrook Owdid Thatappan JW. Another who appealed to me for overall type. Well proportioned feminine head with lovely expression. Good length to neck, well laid shoulders. Mature body, well sprung rib with good depth and enough forechest. Good width to loin, well angled rear. Balanced throughout, good topline and in lovely condition. moved effortlessly with drive. Fully deserved the Res CC in the challenge.

2nd: Williams’ Bournehouse Guilty Secret. These two could change places on another day. Similar comments apply. So well made and in lovely coat and condition. Just felt winner had the stronger front action today.

3rd: Cornfield’s Indibrooke Poachers Pride

Post Graduate Bitch (3,1)

1st: Vassie’s Rowanmyle Bonnie Lasses. Won this class as the better mover today. Feminine throughout. Good length to neck. Good angles front and rear. Good bone, would have liked better feet. Correct topline, which she held solid on the move. In good coat and condition.

2nd: Welburn’s Oshowa Dream Come True. Feminine bitch who has a pleasing head and expression. Good length to neck, good angles front and back. Would like more forechest. But good width and depth to chest. Good topline, which she held on the move. Front movement a little loose today.

Limit Bitch (1,0)

1st: Danks-Kemish’s Mandysett Fame and Fortune At Alofrano. Stood alone but a very worthy winner. Loved her overall outline when stood. Feminine head and expression. Nice neck and shoulders, straight front. Good bone and feet. Enough rear angulation. Mature body and in excellent coat and condition. moved well.

Open Bitch (4,1)

1st: Williams’ Sh Ch Bournehouse Precious Dream. This bitch certainly lived up to her name. she is an absolute dream to go over. Has the most exquisite head of good proportions. Melting feminine expression. Neck of good length, strong and set in well laid shoulders. Lovely forechest and straight front. Good bone and feet. Body well ribbed with depth and spring. Strong in loin, well muscled rear with good turn of stifle. She moved freely and gracefully, sound both coming ang going. She is in spectacular coat and condition and was presented to perfection. Today was certainly her day and she could not be denied Bitch CC and BOB.

2nd: Paton’s Bournehouse Secret Destiny For Meadowfoot. A lot to like with this bitch but outclassed today by the winner in such form. Well made, balanced and feminine throughout. Pleasing head and expression, good length to neck. sound front and back. Enough bone. Mature body with good ribbing and strong rear. Moved well.

3rd: Corfield’s Indibrooke Poachers pride
