Boston & District Canine Society

I should like to extend my sincere thanks to the Officers and Committee of Boston & District Canine Society for inviting me to judge at this show.  It was a very enjoyable day and I very much appreciated the opportunity of this appointment to assess some lovely dogs.  

I would particularly like to thank the exhibitors of my lovely Welsh Springer Spaniel entry and for trusting me with their dogs – thank you. Finally, huge thanks to my Stewards – Geraldine Dodd and Bridgette Bodle for their efficiency and support during my Judging.

Welsh Springer Spaniel:

Puppy Dog (1):

1ST Clarke, Mrs C L, Tigerrock Tick Tick Boom: A quality puppy of 8 months of age. Impressive male, full of breed type and quality all through. Standing it is clear that he is free from exaggeration and is impressive. Lovely head of correctly proportionate length, soft expression, ears set moderately low, correct clean and complete dentition with a scissor bite, very good lay of shoulder with corresponding return of upper arm, body proportionate and in balance to length of leg, tight feet with short nails, well made hindquarters; on the move and once settled, he was both sound, accurate and happy. 

Post Graduate Dog (5):

1ST Cocking & Barnaby, Miss J L & Mr P R, Bushwacker Happy Gilmore at Ruskinite: An extremely well balanced male of nearly 4 years of age. Standing and in profile he presents an extremely pleasing picture. Lovely head of proportionate length with defined stop, soft expression with eyes of medium size, ears set moderately low, dentition correct, clean and complete, very good forehand assembly, body proportionate and in balance to length of leg, muscled hindquarters with good bend of stifle, tight feet, on the move he showed power coupled with a ground covering action and drive from rear – my only criticism of him is that at times he lacked enthusiasm. A worthy Reserve Best Dog.

2ND Stevenson, Mr P & Mrs F M, Mymmsbrook Matador with Blythway JW: A very striking and balanced male of just over 18 months of age – beautifully presented, shown and handled. He has an eye catching straight and dense coat. Correct head with muzzle of medium length, Correct, clean and complete dentition, neck muscular and of good length into very good shoulder assembly and corresponding return of upper arm, deep brisket, strong hindquarters. Smooth, powerful and sound movement. 

3RD Clarke, Mrs C L Tigerrock I’m Your Man

Open Dog (3):

1ST Clarke, Mrs C L, Tigerrock Magic Woundabout JW: Outstanding male of 2½ years of age. Impressive in both quality all through and outline. Completely Symmetrical. Very typical male throughout and in full straight and dense coat. Correct proportionate head with muzzle of medium length, dentition correct, clean and complete, neck muscular with good length, super layback of shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm, straight forelegs, deep brisket and well sprung ribs, loin that is muscular, strong hindquarters with well let down hocks. Quality bone all through. Feet round and firm with short nails. On the move, he showed a smooth, powerful ground covering action and was accurate both fore and aft and completely at one with his handler. Best Dog & Best Opposite Sex

2ND Smith, Ms T, Isfryn Peeping Tom JW: Male of nearly 6 years of age. Presented a lovely outline, in full quality coat. Correct head with skull of proportionate length, well placed ears, correct, clean and complete dentition, good reach of neck that was clean in throat, well placed shoulder and return of upper arm, balanced and proportionate body, muscular hindquarters with hocks well let down, moved very well.

3RD Williams, Mr & Mrs T, Isfryn Spot The Difference Trebettyn

Special Beginner Dog (1):

1ST Gaylor & Robertson, Miss C J & Mr I, Heniveruce King of Brewers: An impressive male when standing in profile and of just over 2½ years of age. Much credit should go to his handler for the obvious preparation that had gone into this dog before entering the ring. Presented in full straight coat, he was well muscled all through and symmetrical. Lovely head and the kindest of expressions, correct, clean and complete dentition, clean neck into well placed shoulder, brisket of goof depth and width and good spring of rib, very good bone and muscle toneall through, moved very well and accurately; his handler just needs to slacken the lead marginally which will in turn stop him resisting her at time. Again, beautifully presented, shown and handled.

Puppy Bitch (5, 1abs):

1ST Millard, Mr M & Mrs J, Ferndel Water Lily at Rubylea (Ai): Absolutely outstanding puppy bitch of just 8 months of age. The very best of heads of correctly proportionate length, soft melting expression, ears set moderately low, correct, clean and complete mouth and dentition, very good layback of shoulder with corresponding return of upper arm, brisket of good depth and width for her age, body balanced and proportionate, tight feet with short nails, on the move she showed a ground covering action, at one with her handler and made good use of her tail. Best Puppy, Reserve Best Bitch and I was thrilled to learn that she had been awarded a thoroughly well deserved Puppy Gundog Group 2.

2ND Holland, Miss K L, Isfryn Ferndel Stashine over Flatcharm: Super quality bitch again of just 8 months of age. Quality and type was evident all through this bitch. Typical head in both skull and muzzle proportions. Moderate stop. Well placed ears, correct, clean and complete dentition. Long, muscular, clean neck into very good forehand assembly, body not too long, deep brisket for age, strong hindquarters, firm, round feet, short nails, moved well.

3RD Casey, R J, Tigerrock Amazing Grace

Post Graduate Bitch (2):

1ST Morgan, Mrs J M, Benoveor Endless Love: A bitch of nearly 2 years of age. Presented and shown well. : An elegant bitch both standing and on the move. Lovely head of correctly proportionate length, soft expression, ears set moderately low, correct, clean and complete mouth, good lay of shoulder with corresponding return of upper arm, body balanced and proportionate, tight feet, on the move she moved soundly and accurately.

Open Bitch (7, 2abs):

1ST Clarke & Sherlock, Mrs C L & Mrs T, SH CH Crimicar She’s Elcetrick With Tigerrock JW: An outstanding bitch of nearly 4½ years of age. This bitch has quality in all areas and presents a very clean and symmetrical outline when stacked and on the move. Very feminine throughout and in full straight and dense coat. Correct proportionate head with defined stop and muzzle of medium length, correct clean and complete dentition with a scissor bite, neck muscular with good length, correct layback of shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm, straight forelegs, deep brisket of good width and well sprung ribs, loin that is muscular, strong hindquarters with well let down hocks. Quality bone all through. Feet round and firm with short nails. On the move, she showed a smooth, powerful ground covering action with good tail action and was accurate both fore and aft. Best Bitch and Best Of Breed.

2ND Revill & Monday, Mrs J & Mrs D, Julita Ryveeta JW: Another extremely nice and typical bitch of nearly 4½ years of age. She was both elegant and impressive both standing and on the move. Lovely head of correctly proportionate length, softest of expressions, ears set moderately low, correct clean and complete dentition with a scissor bite, well placed shoulder with corresponding return of upper arm, body proportionate and in balance to length of leg, tight neat feet, on the move she showed power coupled with a ground covering action.
