Jack Russell Terrier

First of all I wish to thank the Crufts Show Committee for inviting me to judge the Jack Russell Terriers.  

What an honour and privilege it was to judge this lovely breed at Crufts 2023 and a huge thank you to all exhibitors from home and abroad who gave me the most fantastic entry and hope you enjoyed your day. The majority of the classes had excellent exhibits with many unfortunately missing out on cards. Consistency in type was excellent.

Overall mouths were good, temperaments were good and the majority were easily spanned. Special thanks to my two stewards Penny Forrest and Rebecca Lucas who ensured that the ring ran smoothly.

Very hard to believe this dog is almost 10 years old, put down in excellent condition, T/W, nice dark eyes, correct head proportions, moved well with plenty of drive, correct tailset, coat and pelt good and easy to span. Pleased to award this dog Best Veteran in Breed. Later found out he was grandfather to my BOB.

2ND 10006 - Caldbeckjack Peels Lad ShCM (Mrs D Mckenzie Greig)

T/W, correct head proportions, excellent bite, nice reach of neck, good coat and pelt, tailset correct, moved well. Very much in harmony with his handler. 

3RD 10007 - Genial Gru Bohemia White Hunter at Sonateeka ShCM (Mrs D Mckenzie Greig) very similar comments as 2nd place dog but not so strong in head proportions.

A lot to like about this puppy. T/W Lovely proportions, nice wedge shaped head, nice dark eyes, good ear set, correct height to length proportions, tail set good. Good coat and pelt, easy to span and moved with plenty of drive. Handled well. Pleased to award him Best Puppy in Breed.

 2ND 9954 - Rushden Burning Bridges (Ms J & Miss T Duke & Gill)

 Another puppy with lots to like about him. T/W with a nice wedge shaped head with dark eyes. neat ears, nice straight forelegs, good coat and pelt and easy to span. nothing exaggerated and all in proportion with plenty of drive on the move. correct tail set. 

3RD 9938 - Jaeva Main Page for Affilato (Ms J & Mrs C & Mr L Clark & Sharp & Sharp)

B/W puppy making up a lovely trio of puppies. In excellent condition, moved well, correct tail set, good head proportions, coat and pelt good and easy to span. Put in my notes a very happy puppy whose tail never stopped wagging.

T/W dog of correct proportions, lovely head markings, nice dark eyes, good ear set, straight forelegs, good coat and pelt, easy to span, moved with plenty of drive and very well handled.  

2ND 10035 - Kaszavölgyi-Fürge Bradley ,(imp Hu) Jun Ch'22, Jw'22 (A Suurmond-Bakx)

Another lovely dog handled so well. T/W Correct bite, correct head proportions, nice tan head markings. dark eyes, neat ears, Good body proportions, good coat and pelt and easy to span. moved with plenty of drive with correct tail set. 

3RD 9963 - Ari von Den Ulrichsbruchzwillingen Ger Junch Alps Junch (Mrs Stef Fay)

This youngster pushed very hard for second place. T/W Again good head proportions, correct bite, nice dark eyes, neat ear, moved with plenty of drive and correct tail set, good coat and pelt and easy to span.

Heading up a lovely trio of dogs. T/W nice rich tan head markings, dark eyes, correct head proportions, overall shape and size good. Good coat and pelt and easy to span. Moved with plenty of drive, with a correct tailset. 

2ND 10046 - Tiltser Marsielle (Miss R & Mrs S Walls)

 A dog beautifully handled and pushed very hard for 1st place. T/W with a rich tan marked head, lovely dark eyes, correct head proportions, put down in excellent condition, with good coat and pelt and easy to span. Moved with plenty of drive, with correct tail set.

T/W head markings good, correct head proportions, coat and pelt good and easy to span. tail set good and moved with plenty of drive.

T/W dog, this boy caught my eye immediately when he came into the ring. Excellent head and body proportions and with a keen look in his dark eyes. Correct dentition, correct head proportions, Coat and pelt good and easy to span. Good lay of shoulder, nice straight legs and well padded feet. covered the ground with ease with excellent drive. Tail set correct. Very well presented, and handled. A quality dog and a real show dog presented free standing.. Awarded him reserve Best Dog.

2ND 10038 - Fast Love with Locheil ShCEx (Mr D I & Mrs J A Thornley & Smith)

I liked this dog a lot, again nice rich tan/white. good head proportions, nice dark eyes, correct height too length proportions, coat and pelt good and easy to span. tail set correct and moved with plenty of drive. Handler certainly got the best out of his dog.

A nicely presented T/W dog, head proportions good, dark eye, neat ears, good strong straight legs, good body proportions. moved with plenty of drive, good tail set. Good coat and pelt and easy to span.

Well where do I start with this rich T/W dog, a quality showman handled and presented very well. Lovely masculine head, keen dark almond eyes, neat ear, nice straight front legs with good bone. Had the correct body proportions, correct length of neck flowing nicely onto a nice shoulder. He was balanced, covered the ground with ease with excellent drive. good tail set, coat and pelt good and easy to span. I was delighted to award this dog BD, BOB and in the Terrier Group ring I was proud to watch him be awarded Terrier Group 3. 

2ND 10050 - Tiltser Manhatton (Miss Witmond) 

Another great T/W dog put down in excellent condition. Lovely head proportions and with keen dark eye, neat ear with nice straight front legs. Body proportions good, held a firm top line on the move with excellent drive, correct tail set .

3RD 9934 - Touchstar De Moonjack (Ms Sara Caballero)

Another lovely dog of correct proportions. masculine head, keen dark eyes, neat ear, and straight front legs. easy to span, coat and pelt good, correct tail set, moved with excellent drive, another showman.

There is a lot to like about this T/W dog, moved really well with good hind angulation, masculine head, with keen dark eye. Lovely straight front legs. Good coat and pelt and easy to span. Handled very well.

2ND 10047 - Whistlewood's You Wear It Well (Imp Swe) (Miss R & Mrs S Walls)

A nice T/W dog to go over on the table, coat and pelt good, nice neat ears and easy to span but just a shame he was a little overwhelmed in the ring which made it difficult to assess his movement.

3RD 10004 - Kabu Take It to The Max (Miss Mcfarlane)

Its difficult to do a critique on this dog, he really played up his handler, I just wish he had been presented in better condition.

I have seen this smooth bitch campaigned for a long time, she never fails to let her handler down, she is sound on the move for her age (14 years) a real credit to her handler. Very easy to span. 

2ND 10027 - Cumbreck Lady Penelope (Miss K Saich)

Another smooth bitch 9 years old. Longer in the leg than I would have liked, coat and pelt good and I was able to span. Definitely enjoying her day in the ring.

Goodness me what a lovely 8 month old puppy with a very promising career. Lovely rich tan markings, and full of confidence. Lovely feminine head, nice dark eyes, neat ears, strong front legs, correct body proportions, good tail set. Coat and Pelt good, easy to span. Moved really well with good hind angulation. So sensitively handled.

A T/W lovely bitch 11 months old put down in excellent condition. Strong but very feminine head, nice dark eye, neat ears, straight front legs sitting on compact feet. correct body proportions, lovely tail set, good rear angulation providing her with plenty of drive. Coat of good texture, and easy to span. Was pleased to award her BPB.

 A lovely T/W puppy 10 months old with a strong feminine head, nice neat ears and dark eyes. nice straight front legs, coat and pelt good, easy to span with plenty of drive from the hind quarters.Correct tail set, Correct body proportions.

Another puppy with a promising career. Lovely feminine head, T/W with nice neat ears, dark eye, strong straight front legs, correct body proportions, Good coat and pelt and easy to span. correct tail set, moved with plenty of drive from the hindquarters.

I loved this rich T/W bitch, feminine head, with dark eyes, good pigmentation, neat ears, excellent neck and shoulders, good strong backline, tail set good with correct body proportions. Excellently presented, coat texture good, easy to span. Moved with plenty of drive from the hindquarters. Nothing overdone with this bitch, she is a great representative of the breed. Had real ring presence and pleased to award her RBB. 

2ND 9951 - Lovely Orange Never Say Never (Mr B & Mr C Deegan & Spencer-Gray)

A quality T/W bitch put down in excellent condition, nice feminine head, lovely dark eye, neat ears, excellent neck and shoulders, held a good top line on the move with correct tail set. Easy to span and with good coat and pelt. moved with plenty of drive from the hindquarters. Pushed hard for first place.

In my notes I put smaller in stature to others in the class but all in proportion. Kept a lovely top line on the move and has correct tail set. Easy to span, coat and pelt good. handled well.

Very feminine T/W bitch, with nice dark eye, neat ears, a lot to like about her, good coat and pelt and easy to span, another that kept a lovely top line on the move with a good tail set. moved with plenty of drive from the hindquarters.

Making up a trio of lovely bitches. T/W with very feminine head, dark eye, neat ears. straight front legs, good coat and pelt and easy to span. Good rear angulation giving her plenty of drive. Good tail set. In my notes I put never stopped wagging her tail, a very happy bitch.

She pushed very hard for first place, lovely rich T/W bitch, feminine head, dark eye, neat ears, put down in excellent condition, coat and pelt good and easy to span. Correct body proportions. kept a good top line on the move with plenty of drive from the hindquarters. correct tail set.

1ST 10036 - Lovely Orange Gefjon Jaeva (Imp Rus) (Mrs K Tate)

This T/W bitch felt right, looked right and moved right. Lovely feminine head, good pigmentation, dark eye, neat ears, lovely straight forelegs, put down in excellent condition, good coat and pelt, easy to span, tail set good, moved so smoothly around the ring with plenty of drive. Nothing exaggerated about this bitch. I was pleased to award her Best Bitch and she pushed hard for BOB. 

 2ND 10018 - Kajsenborg's Polaroid Picture (Miss T Grenaae)

This T/W bitch is lovely to go over her, everything feels right, feminine head, good pigmentation, dark eye, neat ears. lovely flow of neck, straight forelegs, excellent coat and pelt, easy to span, good body proportions, good tail set, good rear angulation giving this bitch plenty of drive.

Making up a lovely trio. T/W with super feminine head, dark eye, neat ears, nice straight forelegs, correct body proportions, good tailset, moved with plenty of drive and very well handled.

In my notes I wrote down enjoyed her self and her tail never stopped wagging.

A nice T/W bitch with smooth coat, head proportions good, nice dark eye, neat ears, straight forelegs, tailset good, easy to span, moved well and very well handled.

3RD 9986 - Jackopeaks Bakewell Puddin (Mrs D Kay)

Another smooth coat T/W bitch very similar comments to 2nd place. slightly longer in leg, moved out well.
