IRISH WOLFHOUNDS

Thank you for inviting me to judge at your General Championship Show. Shame that it was the last to be held at the Showground but wishing the committee every success with future shows in their new venue. I have not judged or been to any shows for quite a while and would like to say a special thank you to the Stewards who looked after me and were very efficient. I had a lovely entry of 23 dogs, unfortunately a few were unable to make it on the day, but it was very pleasing to have some good hounds to go over. My BOB was a young 17 month hound, she dominated the day with her commanding appearance, her movement was free and easy, and this was demonstrated even better in the larger ring in the Hound Group where she was shortlisted from a very large group. I think she has a very good future in front of her and it was pleasing to hear that after today’s results, she gained her JW

PD (3,1) 1. Webb & Sheppard’s Killoughery Mission Two for Inkleyboys. 6-month wheaten hound, who was very excited about his day but soon settled down. A very handsome head with pleasing dark eye, gentle expression, ears well placed, and teeth correct bite. A strong arched neck, good depth of chest, forearm straight and strong, elbows placed close to the chest. Good length to rib and belly well drawn up, good length of back. Thighs strong and muscular and well angulated. Moved normal and sound on the diagonal, long stride with ease, tail carried well, very confident puppy. 2. Kelly’s Bonaforte’s Zippity Do. A tall, happy 11 month wheaten, wanting to play today with his opponent. A very pleasing head with kind dark eye, nice strong arched neck, ears placed well but slightly too large. Unable to check teeth for correct bite. Would prefer better shoulder placement, good strong forearms and tight feet. Back long and strong, loins arched, thighs strong and muscular. Movement slightly erratic, as he was excited to be in the ring, will hopefully settle down as he matures.

JD (2,1) 1. Severn-Kumar’s Gaelmarque Quintus. 17-month brindle lovely young male. Dark eyes with soft expression, ears nicely placed, good length of neck and well arched. Forearms strong and straight, elbows tucked under. Would like a stronger top line. Lovely rear angulation and a nicely balanced young male. Bit erratic on the move today, ring is small for our breed as they struggle to be able to settle into a good stride but worthy of his placing even though he stood alone. RBD

PGD (1) 1. Dawson’s Red Rock Canyon of King Howard Legends of Shalico. Almost 3-year-old large wheaten heavy male. Good head with gentle dark eye, ears well placed, correct teeth, strong straight forearms, elbows well tucked under. Would prefer more length to back, and more muscle in thigh. Nice rear angulation. Movement sound but was very slow and not enough reach and drive.

OD (4,2) 1. Webb’s Gaelmarque Mission Success for Inkleyboys. 3-year-old brindle male with commanding appearance. Nice balanced male with a good harsh coat and just on appearance you can see that he is fit for purpose. Dark, kind eye, nicely placed ears, correct bite. Good depth of chest and strong top line with a good tuck up, nice strong thighs. Movement was sound and at ease, shame he carries his tail too high, but not as bad as I have seen previously. Worthy of BD. 2. Grimwood’s Bonafortes Meldrew. Large wheaten 6-year-old male. I’ve seen this lovely boy a few times at shows but today he looked tired. He has a good head with pleasing dark eyes and a loving gentle expression, bite correct and ears small and nicely placed. Forearms strong and large tight feet. Good rear angulation would like more muscle to thigh. Movement was sound but lacked enthusiasm today which isn’t like him. (After the show in the evening, unfortunately he was rushed to the vets, thankfully he is now home, would explain his lack of enthusiasm today and we all wish him better)

PB (3,1) 1. Bridges Barrassy Firecracker. What a very pretty 7 month brindle female with great size. So collective for a young hound, free stacked herself beautifully. Gentle expression with nice dark eye, correct bite and ears nicely placed. Good depth chest, strong forearms and elbows close to chest. Strong top line and belly well drawn up. Good rear angulation with strong muscled thigh. Movement was free and easy with good reach and drive. Well deserved BP. 2. Dawson’s Tristar Du Grand Chien De Culann at Shalico. Really like this 9 month very tall rangy brindle female. Kind dark eye, correct bite, ears well placed. Neck long and well arched, forearms strong and straight. Good length of back but would prefer stronger topline and more rear angulation. Movement, currently holding her tail too high and needs to settle, I am sure she just needs time to mature.

JB (4,1) 1. Sheppard’s Gaelmarque Treasured by Goldswift. Liked this young female as soon as she walked in the ring, 17 month brindle with commanding appearance. Good head with a lovely soft expression, nice dark eye, ears well placed. Good length of neck, strong and well arched, good depth of chest and straight strong forearms, elbows nicely close to chest. Good length of back and strong topline, nicely sprung ribs with good drawn up belly, very strong muscled thigh, very balanced hound. Movement was active, sound and at total ease. Very worthy of BB and BOB. 2. Crosse’s Rainster Evie. 11 month brindle female, lovely presented and handled well. Pretty head with kind, dark eye with gentle expression. Good length of neck, nice depth of chest, straight forearms and tight feet. Nice length of back and belly drawn up, good angulation but would like more muscle to thigh. Slightly unsettled on the move but sound and I am sure will improve on maturity. 3. Bridges Barrassy Firecracker

PGB (3,2) 1. Crosse’s Gaelmarque Sweet Symphony. 3 year old pretty brindle female. Not been shown for a while as she had been unwell, first outing for 18 months. Very pretty head with kind dark, gentle eye, good small ears well placed. Good depth chest, forearms straight and elbows well under. Would prefer a stronger topline but had good thigh muscle. RBB
