German Spitz Club of Great Britain

Breed: German Spitz (Klein)

German Spitz Club of Great Britain Championship Show

Sunday 5th November 2023 – Klein

My thanks to the club for inviting me to judge at the show; it is a real honour to undertake such a prestigious engagement for the breed I have adored since childhood.

I last judged Kleins in 2017 and I was very much looking forward to the task. Entry numbers are nowhere near what we used to see, but this was the 2nd highest entry of the year, only behind Crufts, so my sincere thanks to all exhibitors for their support. I found quite a mix in quality, type, size and movement. That aside, I had some lovely examples of the breed to assess including promising youngsters. My principal winners were excellent examples of the breed and I was delighted to see the Klein winners take BIS, BVIS and RBVIS.

Veteran Dog (4,1)

1st Jackson & Minshall’s Ch Holbain Just Like Bill

12-year old cream. Top end lad, completely in proportion, with a compact body and square outline. Masculine head of balanced proportions, with neat well set ears. Ample bone for size. Excelled on the move showing a positive flowing side gait, and straight to and fro. Shown in lovely firm condition, and profuse coat of correct texture. RBVIB; RBVIS

2nd Serman’s Ch Rochedo Bill the Badger By Tymy

12.5-year old b/w parti. Another handsome and substantial veteran presented in good condition. Head of balanced proportions with good ears, eye looking a little full, and I preferred head type of 1. On the move he covered the ground with ease, just a fraction close away, and a little distracted but saw enough to assess.

3rd Shepherd’s Chilite Indian Chief

Puppy Dog (0)

Junior Dog (1,0)

1st Andrew’s Claran Court Your Breath

14-month old cream. Compact body with nice bone for size. Nicely balanced head with correct proportions between skull and muzzle, would prefer slightly neater ears. Moved out well and presented in clean condition. Coming along nicely and with time and maturity will challenge the best.

Graduate Dog (1,0)

1st Moore’s Pommary Court Jester

14-month old sable. Very lean in body condition and head a bit narrow, would prefer smaller ears. A little stretched in body proportions, with good bone for size and carried his well set tail throughout. Keen expression.

Post Graduate Dog (2,0)

1st Rogerson’s Nosregor Take it All

19-month old black. Finely made with a proportionate head. Tail well set and carried. Flowing side gait, though was a little wide coming towards. Well handled and presented by his young charge.

2nd Moore’s Pommary Let Rumour Begin

Almost 6-years old sable. A little difficult to assess today as was quite unsettled. Carrying a good coat of correct texture, he has good bone for size.

Limit Dog (3,1)

1st Saunders’ Radajasa’s Agent Hamish at Brookwell.

2-year old cream, with an abundance of coat which gives the appearance he is bigger and longer than he actually is; hands-on assessment demonstrates otherwise. He has a masculine head of good proportions, with dark eyes of correct shape, would prefer neater ears. Demonstrated a flowing side gait and was okay towards, though a little wide behind.

2nd Dyer’s Longsdales Knightshade at Javarm

4-year old black of quality who unfortunately wasn’t giving the best account of himself today, and reluctant to use his ears. He has a handsome balanced head with pleasing eyes. His tail is well set and was carried throughout. Let down today on movement, don’t think he was happy with the flooring.

Open Dog (2,0)

1st Chambers, Chambers & Gepp-Cox Ch Bemojo Pearls of Wisdom at Musique

2-years old white, a cracking little dog, presented in first class condition. Firm compact body, stands 4-square showing typical spitz outline. Balanced masculine head with pleasing expression, excellent pigmentation and neat ears. Moved out with purpose and drive, showing a flowing sidegait and positive to and fro. DCC; BOB and later BIS

2nd Bradbury, Peck & Davies Wychlea Percy Vehere

Almost 5-years old black of pleasing breed type. He has a masculine head of excellent proportions, eye could be darker. He stands 4-square showing good shape, and was presented in good coat, and firm condition. Excellent construction, gave his handler a hard time on the move, not giving the best account of himself in that aspect.

Champion Dog (4,0)

1st Jackson & Minshall’s Ch Perrymere Just Bertie JW

6-year old cream sable. Handsome lad with short compact body, and typical spitz outline, with correctly set tail, held throughout. Masculine head of good proportions, nice balance between skull and muzzle. Dark oval eyes, correctly shaped ears, and the most pleasing dark pigment, all leading to a soft expression. Moved soundly in all directions, covering the ground with a flowing sidegait. Presented in firm condition and handled to advantage. RDCC

2nd Pearce & Francis’ Ch Longsdale’s Blame It On Me

5.5-year old cream. Big made lad of different type to 1. Very pleasing head, balanced with good proportions, and correct ears. Good body, with proportionate bone. Presented in full, clean coat of correct texture. Pushed 1 hard but had to give way on front movement today.

3rd Chambers’ Ch Musique Born Legacy

4th Rogerson’s Ch Nosregor Willhe Surprise Ya

Veteran Bitch (4,0)

1st Tullis’ Ch/Ir Ch Radajasa Double Agent Nyx

11-year-old white presented in lovely coat and firm condition, belying her age. One that has had top honours from me in the past, was warming to have the opportunity to assess her again as a veteran. Excelled in movement, covering the ground with a flowing side gait and true to and fro. She has a balanced correct head, dark eyes and good pigmentation. Proportionate bone, compact firm body, she stood 4-square presenting a typical outline, with her well set tail carried tightly. She never let up showing and I was delighted to award her BVIB, and later see her awarded BVIS.

2nd Serman’s Wychlea Lady In The Mirror By Tymy

11-year-old black, another quality veteran, belying her years and full of beans. She has a typical head of good proportions. Presents a pleasing outline on the stand being compact in body carrying her well set tail throughout. She moved out with verve, and pushed 1 hard.

3rd Shepherd’s Feciums The Good Fairy

Puppy Bitch (1,0)

1st Shepherd’s Fecimus Butter Me Up

8-month-old sable making her ring debut. A happy, outgoing puppy she has a good shape and nice bone for size. Attentive to her handler, she used her tail and ears to advantage, and moved out steadily from all directions. BPIB

Junior Bitch (2,1)

1st Shepherd’s Fecimus Butter Me Up

(Winner of PB)

Graduate Bitch (2,0)

1st Bray’s Pommary Goodnite Sweetheart

4-year old black. Well coated, of correct texture. Moved out okay, preferred her more typical Spitz head.

2nd Morgan & Griffith’s Ruskies Athena

B/w parti of almost 2-years old. Presented in lovely coat and condition. Top line slightly sloping and lacking in sufficient breed type. Attentive to her handler and moved out well.

Post Graduate Bitch (3,0)

1st Shepherd’s Fecimus Having a Giraffe

2.5-year-old black. Very pretty, feminine headed with a sweet expression. Head is balanced of good proportions. Dark oval eyes and neat well set ears. Coming back into coat which is of correct texture and was presented in clean condition. Moved out well from all directions, she never let up showing and was handled to advantage by her clever handler. RBCC

2nd Bray’s Pommary Goodnite Sweetheart (winner of GB)

3rd Morgan & Griffith’s Ruskies Athena

Limit Bitch (3,0)

1st Pearce & Francis’ Longsdale’s Remember Me

19-month-old, rich brown. Compact body, and good overall shape, good bone for size, tail well set and carried. Head of good proportions, ears a touch wide set. Moved okay.

2nd Andrew’s Claran Black Diamond

3.5-years-old black. A quality female, different type to 1. Feminine head of balanced proportions. Compact in body, and presents a correct outline. Presented in good condition and well handled. Was a little unsettled on the move which made way for 1.

3rd Bradbury & Godridge’s Wychlea in the Purple TAF

Open Bitch (2,0)

1st Slack’s Fecimus One Of Us

4-year-old sable. Top drawer bitch, with excellent breed type. Good for size she is absolutely balanced, compact in body presenting the most pleasing outline. Feminine balanced head, with dark eyes and a keen expression. Ears of correct shape. Presented in first class condition, fit and well muscled throughout, this girl is obviously well exercised. Moved around the ring with ease, covering the ground with a flowing side gait, and sound to and fro. Absolutely at one with her accomplished handler they never let up showing and when it came to the challenge could not be denied BCC; before taking BOS & RBOB

2nd Withheld

Champion bitch (2,0)

Two quality cream bitches, possessing excellent breed type.

1st Pearce & Francis’ Ch Longsdales’ No More The Fool

2-years-old substantial female. Compact body, she is nicely boned, presents a good outline, finished with correct tail, well set. Balanced head though tear staining a little detracting and would prefer a slightly neater ear. Moved out well from all directions. Just lacking that extra sparkle today to take top honours.

2nd Rogerson’s Ch Nosregor Sister Sledge

3-year-old pretty female. Good head, dark eyes and neat ears. Not in full coat what she has is of correct texture and was presented in clean sparkling condition. Showed a flowing side gait and was sound from all directions. Expertly handled by her young charge they pushed hard for top spot, I just preferred the slightly more compact outline of 1.
