CRUFTS 2023

Kennel Club Junior Warrant Finals

It was an absolute pleasure to judge the Finals of the Kennel Club Junior Warrant competition and I want to thank the CRUFTS committee for the honour. 10 dogs had been sent through from the semi-finals held at discover Dogs in London at the end of last year. All excellent examples of their respective breeds. Some were a little bit overawed by the occasion, but I am sure we will be hearing more about them all and I congratulate them for the accolade of being in the CRUFTS BIS ring and wish them well for their future careers.

My winner from the moment he stepped onto the green carpet was the super Border Terrier Ch Awbrooksky Never Back Down JW owned by Mr and Miss Goddard. He entered the ring as if he owned it, looking quite breath-taking. Presented to perfection and handled most capably by his unassuming young handler. His head is typical with a delightfully keen expression, super for size and spans easily. His coat was perfect for texture and thick skin. On the move he could go all day. A very worthy winner in my mind.

Runner up was the Briard Fostebrie Just Unique JW Lux Jun Ch owned by Mrs Foster. Obviously not new to me as I have seen him around the breed rings. His head is masculine, of the correct proportions and has a super expression. To go over he has everything in the right place, he has come up on leg and his coat texture is coming on nicely. On the move he carried himself correctly and really used himself, particularly in profile. To deny him today would have been an injustice.
