Paignton & District Ch Show

Hovawarts

Such a delightful breed and the quality of this entry was so high. I absolutely enjoyed judging them. The exhibitors and dogs are so lovely to be around. Most dogs were so well constructed, and all were super sound and shown in such good order. The challenge for BOB was an honour to judge. Both should be Champions and I hope the breed is able to push for CC’s in the future. Thank you so much to all for another wonderful appointment with this breed. You should all be commended.

Junior Dog (1,0)

1st: White & Whitmore’s Johan Hovi-Raj of Driftingsky. A really smashing young dog. Maturing so well. Clean head with moderately broad skull. Great parallel head planes and good proportions. Oval eyes. Typical expression. Strong well-muscled front with great angulation. Good bone. Slightly longer than tall. Level topline. Slightly sloping croup. Well angulated stifles. Tail was quite bushy. Moved out so well once settled. I think he is an excellent prospect with much style. RBD

Open Dog (2,0)

1st: Foakes’ Hightimbers Oaks of Tutelary. One I judged earlier in the year as a junior. I said then that I thought him impressive, and I he looked fantastic here in a nice big ring. Broad skull with good head planes and correct proportions. Super expression. Ovals eyes. Ears are moderately high set and have slightly rounded tips. Moderate neck which is nice and muscular. Excellent front with well laid shoulders and super return of upper arm. Deep chest of correct width. Level topline. Slight slope to croup. Moderate tuck up. Lovely bushy tail. Superb effortless mover. Faultless today. Super boy. BD & BOB.

2nd: Edward’s Hightimbers Walnut. No disgrace standing 2nd here. Another upstanding boy with many of the qualities of 1st. Good broad head which is well-proportioned and he has a lovely expression. Nicely put together all through with good angulation. Good bone. Level topline. Slight slope to croup. Shown in excellent condition. Just looking a little more immature than 1st and not quite the loving flowing gait of the winner. Another nice dog.

Veteran Dog (1,0)

1st: Foakes’ Kanukalos Thapsody. So much quality and type to this masculine boy. Very handsome. Well-proportioned head with typical expression. Oval eyes. Well set ears. Strong neck. Excellent shoulders and upper arm. Good width and depth to chest. Firm topline. Good bone. Well-turned stifles. Hocks strong and well let down. Effortless mover, just not quite as flowing at the main winners. In great condition.

Special Beginners Bitch (1)

1st: Johnson’s Pines Bridge. Very immature girl who had much of what I was looking for in a young Hovawart. Very feminine clean head, but still with strength and typical expression. All in all, her head is developing well. Lovely strong neck. Super shoulders and upper arm. Body developing well. Correct proportions. Level, firm topline. Well-turned stifles. Low set hocks. Coat to develop. Moves out so well once she is settled. Nice prospect.

Junior Bitch (2,0)

1st: Johnson’s Pines Bridge.

2nd: Robinson-Brown’s Hightimbers Oreo Cookie. Little more refined all through than 1st. An attractive bitch. Head is developing well and has good proportions. Oval eyes and well set ears. Moderate angles fore and aft. Chest developing. Standing a little up behind at present. Very well proportioned. Moves very soundly. Lots of potential

Open Bitch (2,0)

1st: McClures’ Hightimbers Ticket to Dream at Kanukalos. Such a beautifully attractive bitch with such a feminine head. Lovely head planes. Super balance of skull to muzzle. Oval eyes. Well set ears. Lovely reachy neck. Well angulated shoulders. Good return to upper arm. Deep chest of correct width. Just dipping a little in topline on the day. Slight slope to croup. Well-turned stifles and well-defined low set hocks. Bushy tail. Slight slope to pasterns. Super flowing mover.

2nd: Pearce’s Pines Austen At Sternkriege. A little plainer through the head for me compared to 1st, but it is quite well proportioned. Neck of moderate length. Well laid shoulder and good return to upper arm. Little long in body. Chest reaches to elbows. Slight tuck up. Croup could slope a little more. Well-turned stifles. In excellent condition and moved out very well indeed. Well handled.

Veteran Bitch (2,0)

1st: McClure’s Kanukalos Burietta. One I have eulogised about before. She had such a stunning outline, and lovely proportions. Great skull to muzzle with excellent head planes and balance throughout. Such a delightful expression. Lovely oval eyes which are well set. Well set ears of correct length. Moderate neck. Well laid shoulders. Super return to upper arm. Great bone. Deep chest of good width. Slight tuck up. Super turn of stifles. Croup maybe a tad steep and tail just a fraction low set for my preference. Super firm, low set hocks. Superb effortless gait with great reach and drive. Great muscular condition. Absolutely loved her. BB & BV

2nd: White & Whitmore’s Driftingsky Alize. Skull a bit too rounded and not such good head planes as 1st. Ok for stop. Proportion of skull to muzzle is good. Eyes well set and oval in shape. Moderate length to neck. Well angulated fore and aft. Deep chest of good width. Good bone. Firm, level topline. Well-turned stifles. Slight slope to croup and nice bushy tail. Sound, but not quite the effortless lightfooted style of the winner. Well presented.
