IRISH RED AND WHITE SETTERS

JUDGE – JULIA BATEMAN (CORMALLEN)

I would like to thank all the exhibitors for their superbly turned out dogs and braving the cold and snow to attend the show. I would also like to thank the committee for the invitation and making the show such a friendly one! Also for my cousin Caroline Sheppard for making the lovely Best of Breed Award based on the head of my late Tom (Cormallen Sparkling Light). Overall the quality of the dogs was very good, the coat colour has improved since I last judged with the base colour being white with red patches. I was very pleased with all my winners and especially to find out, after judging, that my Best Dog and Best of Breed was gaining his all important 3rd Challenge Certificate.

Class 1865: Minor Puppy Dog (0)

Class 1866: Puppy Dog (3) 1 Abs

1st – 5474 Heslop´s Klarnein Lake Side TAF – lovely happy biddable 11 month old puppy, domed skull with correct stop and square muzzle, dark brown eyes. Shoulders well laid back. Needs to steady on the move but responding well to his handler. One I will watch for the future. Best Puppy Dog, Best Puppy in Breed.

2nd – 5472 Griffin´s Corranroo Capella – Exuberant puppy who gave his handler a hard time. Correct head with typical expression. Shoulders well laid back and correct rear angulation, muscular second thighs. Needs to steady on the move. When at one with his handler I am sure these two puppies will change places many times.

Class 1867: Junior Dog (0)

Class 1868: Post Graduate Dog (1)

1st – 5463 Barney´s Romaunt Lust For Life – stood alone but a worthy winner. Head with square muzzle and deep red markings giving a lovely expression. Deep spring of rib and good rear angulation with muscular second thighs. Straight topline on the move. Happy biddable dog wagging his tail throughout.

Class 1869: Limit Dog (2)

1st – 5479 Mapletoft´s Roanjora Tanqueray – Well constructed 4 year old dog. Correct head shape with lovely expression. Straight front with well laid back shoulders. When settled moved well.

2nd – 5483 Taylor´s Laoirebay Monte Carlo – This dog moved well and looked a well constructed and balanced dog. However I was unable to go over him properly so today he paid the price. Well worth persevering with ringcraft to build up his confidence and extend his experience

Class 1870: Open Dog (7)

Some lovely Show Champions in this class who could change places on another day.

1st – 5477 Jakins´s Int Sh Ch Bel Dutch Lux Ch – a worthy Champion with correct balanced proportions throughout. The head and expression I like, masculine but not overdone Correct straight front and well laid back shoulders. Rear angulation and turn of stifle in proportion to rest of body. Tight feet. True pearly white coat with dark red patches. Happy biddable dog wagging his tail all the time. Moved powerfully with style making good use of his tail, good reach in front and driving from muscular quarters. This was his day ! Best Dog, CC & Best of Breed.

2nd – 5485 Ward´s Sh Ch Cornadore Argyle with Copperwhite – another worthy Show Champion with lovely head and expression. Nice slightly arched neck into well laid back shoulders. Correct rear angulation and turn of stifle. Moved true front and rear. Clear white coat with red patches. Did not move as well as 1st but could change places on another day !

3rd – 5471 Green´s Sh Ch Kendarric Heart Shaped Box with Viszaset

4th – 5487 Whitaker´s Oldstone Caught in the Act at Viewland

5th -5469 Gardner´s Sh Ch Alanea Game Reserve with Danwish

Class 1871: Veteran Dog (3) 1 Abs

1st – 5465 Bayne´s Corranroo Casper – Upstanding nearly 10 year old dog who was not showing his age. Balanced in outline and so soundly constructed overall and very in tune with his handler who presented him extremely well. I was surprised to see he is not a Show Champion but extremely worthy of the Reserve CC. Reserve Best Dog and Reserve CC.

2nd – 5467 Collins´s Sh Ch Romaunt Bloomin Grand at Forestpoint – 7 year old dog with a larger well constructed balanced frame but not as enthusastic on the move as first placed dog.

Class 1873 Minor Puppy Bitch (0)

Class 1874 : Puppy Bitch (3)

All 3 puppies wanted to spend more time on 2 legs than 4 legs as is typical at this age. Ringcraft training will improve this with age.

1st – 5476 – Hutchinson´s Laoirebay Drifting Breeze – Pretty 9 month old puppy, well constructed and balanced for one so young. Moved well when steadied. Best Bitch Puppy

2nd – 5464 – Barney´s Romaunt Ain´t Misbehaven – another pretty headed 9 month old puppy bitch with typical expression. Clear white coat with red patches. Balanced throughout.

3rd – 5466 – Cartlidge´s Gilliegrae Casa Mystique

Class 1875 : Junior Bitch (0)

Class 1876: Post Graduate Bitch (2)

1st – 5462 Barnes´s Ambancy This Is Me – Pretty headed bitch with typical soft expression. Straight front with good laid back shoulders. Level topline which she held on the move.

2nd – 5475 – Hutchinson´s Siorrudh Red Velvet – Another pretty headed bitch who unfortunatley sadly let herself down on the move where she had a tendency to crab.. She could also benefit from losing a little weight.

Class1877: Limit Bitch (1) 1 Absent

Class1878: Open Bitch (5) 1 Absent

1st – 5470 Gardner´s Sh Ch Charnborough Charisma Of Danwish JW – a most worthy Champion. Melting soft expression. Well constructed and sound bitch who moved with drive, wagging her tail. She seemed to be enjoying her day out ! Best Bitch, CC, Best Opposite Sex.

2nd – 5484 – Walker´s Sh Ch Zendarric It´s A Kind Of Magic Within Wroxham JW – This bitch could not be denied her place today based on her construction and balance.. Just lacking the sparkle of 1st on the day. Could well change places on another day ! Reserve Best Bitch and Reserve CC.

3rd – 5486 – Ward´s Cornadore Bia Becomes Copperwhite

4th – 5481 – McDonald´s Roanjora Rioja Crianza
