Blackpool Championship Show
24th June 2023
Thank you to Blackpool for their kind invitation, which was originally to be 3 years ago, my two Stewards, Steve & Norrie were real gems; I think everyone appreciated the layout and large rings. It was a pleasure to judge this Breed which I enjoyed very much, there were some really good quality exhibits on the day, and I thank those who entered for their politeness and acceptance of the final placings.
Dachshund (Long-Haired)
Puppy Dog (2) 1 abs
1st O’Neill’s Ranglewood Finlaggan at Donnadach bl/tan with plenty of substance, well-shaped conical head, dark eye and displayed a good overall shape, good prominent forechest, elbows held nicely against ribcage, good feet & well off for bone, level backline held nicely, nicely angled quarters, moved out well in front but did bunny hop quite a bit in the windy conditions.
Junior Dog (2)
1st Roberts Swansford Prestonador rich red/sable with lovely conical head shape of equal length, good expression, strong jaw & correct scissor bite, strong neck to well laid & angled shoulder, good prominent forechest & length to sternum, excellent ribcage well sprung, nicely rounded rump & muscled well angled quarters, strong hocks, feet with good thick pads & dark short nails; had exuberance on the move & showed personality, forward reach & good drive from his quarters with strong parallel action showing his pads with an easy gait. Coat dense & of good quality; he was outstanding in the class & even more so in the Challenge, pleased to award him Dog CC & BOB and wish him the very best for his future career. Best Junior & very pleased to see he went Junior Group 3 later, well done.
2nd Reid’s Cavallibrook Final Legacy at Maudaxi very nice deep red with attractive overall look, masculine head, slight stop, shoulders placed well & had good width in front, ribs extending well back & blending nicely into abdomen, croup gently rounding to quarters, moved with forward reach but would prefer more drive off the rear quarters but unlucky to meet the winner on such top form as he’s a nice prospect.
Limit Dog (1)
1st Cook & Rhodes Abydachs Free Spirit for Bournder, red with the most attractive head & good eye, was nicely constructed in front, short forearms, decent ribbing, slightly longer in loin, reasonably well angled quarters, strong hocks, nicely coated, tended to hop rather than move out so was difficult to assess his movement.
Open Dog (4) 1 abs
1st Geeson’s Ch Abydachs Return of The Night deep red/sable, most attractive exhibit with lovely head shape & good eye, strong & good neck into nicely laid shoulder, good return & elbows tight to ribcage, prominent forechest & good ribbing, strength of loin to nicely angled quarters, coat in beautiful condition, he looked a picture moving & was pleased to award him the Reserve Dog CC.
2nd Roberts Ch Swansford Gregorydor, lovely masculine red/sable very similar colouring, masculine in head, strong jaw & correct dentition, lovely proportions & super angulation front & rear, well sprung ribcage & short strong loin, strong rump, tail set good & held well, moved out freely with purpose & lost out by a whisker to 1 who I felt just had the edge in this class today.
3rd Garlick’s Ranglewood Harvest Song
Veteran Dog (4) 1 abs
1st Garlick’s Ranglewood Arashi deep red/sable of 9 years, nice overall outline, he had a nicely shaped head & good eye, strength of jaw, lovely strong neck to well laid shoulder, good forechest, feet tight with thick pads, ribbing good but would prefer slightly more body, level backline, rounded rump & well angled quarters, good ground clearance & moved well enough to win the class and was Best Veteran.
2nd Hirst’s Ranglewood Lantana at Kejana 8-year-old black/tan, bigger & rangier than 1 & preferred head of winner, nicely laid shoulder & good forehand, well bodied with good ribbing but a shade longer in loin, nice strong back, angled rear, moved soundly but needed more positivity.
3rd Chapman’s Melminds Zsylvester ShCM
Puppy Bitch (4)
1st Geeson’s Abydachs Hot Patootie fell in love with this lovely red, liked her femininity & overall balance, perfect head shape & strength without any coarseness, lovely strong neck to correctly laid shoulder, good return, excellent feet, good forechest & prosternum of length, underline blending nicely, well sprung ribs & strong topline, muscled loin & good quarters, parallel hocks used very well driving evenly across the ring, a showgirl too. Best Puppy
2nd Heap’s Ranglewood Katrine black/tan who nearly threw away her chances but her overall good construction couldn’t be denied here & she displayed good balance; obviously need to settle but has plenty of time to do so, deserved her placing.
3rd Chapman’s Melminds Up On The Catwalk
Junior Bitch (3)
1st Hanney-Mitchell’s Cavallibrook Final Fling Bronia rich red & what a cracker, couldn’t get her out of my mind; has attitude, nice for size & looks like a hunter but is feminine with good conical head & lovely eye, overall construction is as good as you would expect from her well-proportioned stacked outline & underline, super body & gleaming condition, moved out with ease, purpose & drive demanding attention. Bitch CC.
2nd Roberts Swansford Aquadora beautifully constructed light red of huge appeal, feminine well shaped head & good eye, good earset, front construction was super, elbows held tightly, good long ribcage blending nicely, strong loin & good well angled rear, good hocks & tailset. A delightful prospect who should gain her title with ease, today she tended to lean on the go around in the windy conditions, sound as a pound, loved her.
3rd Garlick’s Kyrenia Queens Request with Ranglewood
Yearling Bitch (3)
1st Whitfield-Roberts Swansford Patriciadora beautiful red/sable of quality throughout, gorgeous headpiece, dark eye of good shape, strength of jaw, lovely strong neck, shoulder & upper arm good, strength of body with prominent forechest, lovely ribbing, strong loin, quarters good, moving well in the class showing soundness & purpose.
2nd Paget & Carroll’s Cavallibrook Final Say at Marvale nicely presented feminine black/tan with excellence right through her body, lovely balance & construction, beautiful condition & coat & has a style about her, moved out well with reach & drive should make up.
3rd Foley’s Beauty Long at Clavennae
Post Graduate Bitch (4)
1st Chapman’s Melminds Meryl Streep very attractive red, handled to perfection she had a lovely strength to her head, super expression & dark eye, good well feathered ears, lovely length of neck to nicely laid shoulder & good return, forelegs held well under her, long ribcage & strong loin with excellent shape over her backline to nicely angled rear & strong hocks, she moved out very well in this class with reach & rear drive, beautiful condition.
2nd Rodrigues Amberteckel Baltic Dawn at Islewin red who had a slightly broader back skull, nice dark eye, not the forechest of 1 & slightly longer cast, her ribs were well sprung & front & rear angles were matching, lightly feathered coat, needs to move with more purpose but she displayed soundness & differences are always fractional.
3rd Nicholson’s Zarcrest Jennifer Lawrence at Betsymira
Limit Bitch (5)
1st Garlick’s Ranglewood Islay rich red with near perfect head, beautiful young lady with very good front angles good forechest & ribbing well back, well bodied, strong rump & muscle tone, angled quarters, she moved well in this class but faded a bit in the Challenge; well presented.
2nd Chapman’s Melminds Make Them Gold nice looking red, lovely eye, liked her overall shape, body & construction but she lost out here with lack of reach & positive drive, I think some of the exhibits were struggling with the windy conditions.
3rd Cheese’s Ranglewood Titania at Suecaseus
Open Bitch (4) 1 abs
1st Geeson’s Ch Abydachs Fire in Her Soul gorgeous rich red & another lovely exhibit from this kennel shown in tip top condition, beautiful outline with good construction throughout, perfect body condition & tone, well off for bone & good proportions, moved out well with good carriage & was so close to the top spot, pleased to award her the Reserve Bitch CC.
2nd Roberts Ch Swansford Glendadora gorgeous red of quality which this kennel seems to turn out time after time, great attitude & super head & expression, well-proportioned with good angles and good topline, she was just slightly more controlled in her movement here today but a lovely exhibit and worthy Champion.
