Paignton Pugs

Thanks for such a good entry at this wonderful west country show. I was really impressed with the quality of this entry, Pugs must rate as one of the strongest breeds in the country at the moment. Dogs I felt were stronger than bitches and I can honestly say that any one of the males in my line up I would have happily signed a CC for. Bitches not as stromg, but plenty of crackers.

I tried to go for a fairly square Pug, that moved out well, and there were plenty. A few with smaller than ideal noses. Some coats were a concern and trimming seems to be common place. I didn’t think any had health concerns. It was also great to see great sportsmanship and a good range of ages handling. Breeders certainly have plenty of super males to choose from for the next generation.

Oldest in class. He is super for shape, square and cobby with good leg length. Rounded in skull, good nose, wide muzzle, dark eyes. Liked his width of chest. Well spring rins. High set tail. Good hind angulation. Moved v well. BP

2nd: 1583 DAWSON-PAYNE, Ms Judith & MOUSLEY, Mr Daniel Judamie El Santos

He needs to grow into his ears. Good head shape and the darkest of pigment. Nice size nose. Dark eyes. He has enough neck. Slightly better in shoulder than 1, but can still firm in topline. Moderate in rear. Found him more square than 3.

Only 7 mths and throws out a great outline on the floor. He is square and cobby. V good head, round in skull. Likled his width of muzzle. Big nose, dark eyes, nice ears. Lengthy neck and a good front. Level topline. Single curl to tail. He is slightly moderate in rear and a bit wide moving in front but super in profile.

2nd: 1593 HICKEY, Ms Michelle PARADIZ RONADO LOONEY TUNES Maschio Naf

Just a bit long compared to 1, but has more body and a better head than 3. Lovely eye and expression. Dark pigment, wide muzzle. Moderate angulations front and rear. Topline is level. V good tail.

Very good moving dog who is square and has v good proportions. Liked his head, just a little too much loose skin. Big nose, wide muzzle, v dark eyes. More neck than 2. Liked his width of chest, Ribs go well back. Very well sprung ribs that go well back. Excellent twist. Moderate rear.

2nd: 1629 REYNOLDS, Miss Hayley Eastonite Aramis Croftren JW

Found him just a bit off square. H ehas a v good head, dark eyes and a super expression. V good ears. Wiode chest. Best ribbing in the class. Moderate rear, v good tail. Moves fairly well.

Really good youngster who is square and cobby. Liked his head, big nose, sound skull, super eye and expression. Enough neck. Wide chest. Shoulder is well laid, buy a little soft in pastern. Ribs are ok. Level topline. Well bent stifle and low hocks. Moved well.

2nd: 1586 DAWSON-PAYNE, Ms Judith & MOUSLEY, Mr Daniel Zuma's Gold Digger (IMP SWE)

He is fractionally longer than 1, but has super profile movement. Would like a better coat texture and he is a bit smutty in colour. He is really well made, correct and balanced angulation with good width of chest. Double curl to tail.

Best mover in class. He is square with enough body to make him cobby. Rounded skull, v good eyes and expression. Big nose and a wide muzzle. Lengthy neck, chest to his elbow. Well sprung ribs. Good turn of stifle and low hock. Could have a better tail.

2nd: 1635 TRUELOVE, Mrs J Nijacpugs Wreck It Ralph

Also square and cobby and carries more body than 1. He has a rounded head. V good eyes and a wide muzzle. He is just a bit too wide in chest. Level topline, high set tail. Moderate rear.

3rd: 1610 LINNETT, Ms Hilary G Conquell Calm to Chaos

He has such good proportions, square and cobby with correct length of leg with a deep body. He is masc in his head with a round skull. Lovely eye and expression, super muzzle with a big nose. Lengthy neck. Well ribbed. V good tail. Well bent stifle and low hocks. Feet could be better. Super mover. CC & BOB in the toughest competition.

2nd: 1591 FARNWORTH, Mrs S Ch Taftazini Nepalensis Jw

Really good d who I liked a lot, just a little shorter in leg than 1. Wide muzzle, super eyes. Lengthy neck. Shoulders are slightly wide apart and so not as good moving in front than 1, but better feet. High set tail. Moderate rear which he uses so v well moving. Super coat. RCC

Liked him a lot, just not the hind angulation of 1 but a v good size. Rounded skull. V good expression. Broad muzzle. Medium neck. He is square and cobby, level topline. Tail could be higher set,

Square b. She is v much a baby and not the ribcage of 1. She is v fem in head, with large and dark eyes. Lengthy neck. Needs to firm in front. Good hind angulation and better tail than 1.

She has a super rbcage, well sprung and going back to a short loin. She has a fem head but not quite the expression of 1/. Lengthy neck. Well balanced in angulation. Topline level. Feet can tighten.

She is a better mover than 1 but not as square and has slightly too much wrinkle. V good head, big nose, wide jay. Dark eyes. Medium neck. Well bent stifle and low hock.
